  1. The way things are today you just need to finesse the nomenclature to get around any issue. Weeds are now maintenance-free displacive ground cover. Now relax, have a beer and enjoy your new status with your neighbors.
  2. The Outer Banks is awesome. In regard to beaches and fishing, the east coast is so much better than the west coast. Only thing is the humidity. Make sure you have a huge walk-in closet because you'll be changing shirts several times a day.
  3. Agreed. I was referring to being offended at a personal level. What the Tigers or Tigers broadcasting group does in response is their own business and none of mine.
  4. As a fellow Japanese-American, gotta say, you sound pretty offended. Either it was meant to be derogatory or it wasn't. If there were no humor pointed at differences in cultures we'd never had a Pryor, Chapplelle, and Cho (gross) among many others. Finding the humor in human differences, cultural or otherwise, is the cornerstone of comedy and jokes related to those differences are intrinsic to every human culture. It comes down to, if you are looking to be offended, you will find a way to be. For every person pointing a finger at Morris, there are likely a plethora of examples of that person doing the same thing, but perhaps within the confines of their own cultural group or the same thing but on a different, more politically correct subject matter.
  5. My understanding is that the tax and floor are free-agent neutral. While many teams will get to the floor via FAs there is nothing stopping a team from backing up the payroll truck to extend controlled players early. Imagine if the Angels had a payroll similar to the Rays (needing to spend 30m to make the floor). They would no doubt offer Ohtani, and possibly Adell, or Walsh, extensions that capture their arb and some FA years that would significantly increase the AAV of their contracts which would get them close to the floor.
  6. With Vera, Paris and Jackson in the pipeline it will be someone who will accept 1-2 year contract for under 4m per and is a "good clubhouse guy". Sounds like Iglesias to me.
  7. I'd appreciate a quick primer on the role of the Arizona Complex League. Is it essentially a placeholder league until prospects can get placed on a minor league affiliate?
  8. May he rest in peace. A truly formidable pitcher in his time. Glad that he found redemption after the troubles he experienced post-baseball.
  9. You've been banging this drum and you have to know that it's not going to work that way. For one, Arte wants butts in the seats and going full "evaluate the youth" goes against that. Two, if they are ready, they'll want to be on the field. Lastly, Walsh's injury is relatively minor and shouldn't even be discussed with the first two.
  10. Assuming that Silseth has indeed signed, who is the lone unsigned draftee?
  11. Just be patient. Let the leech therapy and bloodletting run its course. They are professionals.
  12. The boys have done well enough in the face of injuries to their best players (outside Ohtani) and horrendous middle relief. They deserve to see how close they can get to the playoffs. Even if they were to go all out and trade R Iglesias, the return will not be so great as to make a significant impact on next season, at least not in any way that an effective GM can't match with judicious acquisitions. I like the idea of sell small and utilize mid-level prospect pieces with the sole intent of shoring up the bullpen with arms that have at least another year of control. Sure, we're all armchair GMs on AW but I'll be watching and attending games until the end,so I'd far rather watch the next 61 games with them having some chance of the playoffs. The alternative, the minor gains from a big sell-off, doesn't seem worth the trade off from this fans perspective.
  13. I appreciate that Gubi is pitching-centric. A lot of color guys may be more well balanced and "professional" but my preference is for pitching analysis in real time and I'll overlook practically anything else as long as they're talking pitching. It helps that Gubi isn't consumed with advanced metrics and has a more old-school approach.
  14. Thanks @John Smith for updating the draft signings. Appreciated.
  15. Heany really needs to tap into Stuart Smalley. I mean, look what he did for Michael Jordan.
  16. I'd prefer for them to buy and sell selectively to give them a chance to make a push for the playoffs. If it doesn't work out so be it. I want to see these guys go for it but they need some bullpen help. Obviously this opinion isn't the optimal asset management view, but I don't see the big upside in the trade pieces we have outside of R Iglesias. Nothing that will dramatically improve their chances next year. Trade the other Iglesias and select prospects for bullpen arms. Outfield is set with the return of Trout and Upton. Infield is set with the return of Rendon and the swap of Iglesias for Renfigo. Catcher is the Tale of Two City's, it was the best of times and the worst of times. Rotation is mediocre but passable. Get them some bullpen help and see how it plays out. I believe they can close strong given a little bit of bullpen help. As a fan, I'll feel a hell of a lot better even if they come up short, than any kind of enjoyment I'll get out of the micro improvements of selling as much as they can and giving up on the season in mid July.
  17. @Revad Seems Minasian has answered your preseason mantra of "where's the &*#! pitching?". They were all still in college.
