  2. You can't really compare our farm system to theirs given the structure of the franchises. If we A.) sucked for a really long time in the early-mid 2000's B.)didn't sign a lot of top free agents then our farm system would be a lot better. You can argue that we shouldn't have done B though and kept our draft picks while signing middle of the line free agents.
  3. That's because there offense is good enough to get a ton of runners on base, so even though they are executing awfully it still leads to a fair amount of runs
  4. You're right, back then the team was a lot different. I would compare the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to them though.
  5. I went over this list http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/salaries/player/top-25 and tried to think about which ones have worked out. Close to 50% of them have pretty much not worked out already. Another 5 or so worked out okay. A couple worked out well. The rest are players who very recently signed and the outcome is TBD, although a lot of them look promising (Verlander, Felix, Fielder, AGon)
  6. I was thinking about this the other day and CC Sabathia has probably worked out the best for any organization (still a few years to go though).
  7. I'm confused, what feelings toward MS did Trevor Bell have?
  8. The A's did almost screw themselves out of a win with bad defense though. But the angels didnt capitalize during other points in the game so it didn't matter
  9. There is a ridiculous amount of venting in this thread for a game where the Angels are up 5-4. I do admit that leaving that many runners on base and CJ nibbling on the corners is extremely frustrating though.
  10. He said he had a dead arm in spring training some. If anything he probably just needs a trip to the 15 day DL to rest his arm. I know when I pitched in HS my velocity wasn't my max until a few weeks into playing games too.
  11. Howie doesn't know when to lay off off-speed pitches, and Darvish throws a ton of off-speed pitches and doesn't always know where it's going. A bad combination.
  12. I believe he won't have a good arm unless he loses weight (muscle). Pitchers never lift heavy weights for the chest/arms.
  13. I feel like he always starts out rough. Even on his great starts it seems like 1-2 runners get on in the first.
  14. It doesn't matter how good your stuff is if you can never consistently control it
  15. To a team with Vernon Wells as the #5 hitter
  16. Last year we started with the Royals at home, and then the twins.
  17. He's really not our #3 though. I'd say that is Vargas. He's just before him so it goes R-L-R-L
  18. Like Edwin Jackson? ERA the last 3 seasons: 4.47, 3.79, 4.03. And the going rate for him was 4/52. Granted he seems to be a bit overpaid for whatever reason, but a pitcher like that will be a lot more than 2/15.
  19. Expected Bourjos, but Trumbo is probably still in because of the small ballpark
  20. The fact that he doesn't rely on velocity is actually awesome for him/the Angels going forward as he ages.
  21. According to this (may not be entirely accurate) he threw one slider (or the changeup maybe) and the rest fastballs http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_04_01_anamlb_cinmlb_1&mode=box#gid=2013_04_01_anamlb_cinmlb_1&mode=plays (click on the play-by-play tab)
  22. It was a really good sign. The bullpen has a lot of guys that have proven to be solid in the majors for at least some period of time, but have question marks.
