  1. Not for this draft, but they couldn't pass this guy up given that he was still available
  2. Teams seem to always make diving catches when they need it most against us. I guess we can't complain because of the dropped catch earlier in the inning though.
  3. Uhhh, that's not what his career stats say. He always swings like that too.
  4. It makes me wonder if they are playing him full time in the minors and plan on trading him. He really has no long term place on this team with Bourjos/Trout/Hamilton/Trumbo. The only way I see him on the team is if Bourjos is traded. I wonder what we could get for Calhoun? He has a career .923 OPS in the minors and is solid defensively. He never projected to be a star but he has been a very solid player.
  5. The expectation for this team were middle of the pack (~15th) pitching and top 5 hitting, so that's pretty bad.
  6. A decline shouldn't be as fast/drastic as Pujols/Hamilton might end up being.
  7. The Angels have had their share of injuries too
  8. With the runner going and a lefty up, it's weird that the shortstop didn't cover. Aybar had the right idea there.
  9. You guys are confusing winning the division with making the playoffs...
  10. I don't remember exactly but wasn't he running (stealing) on that play?
  11. He has been playing with, or previously had, some leg/foot injuries which probably affect his range.
  12. Back on topic, I haven't been able to watch games the last week or so but I see a lot of Hamilton's HR's are to LF according to gameday, which is a very good sign for a slumping hitter.
  13. They will never put a catcher at leadoff.
  14. The Angels still have the 6th most errors in all of MLB. Defense was supposed to be one of their strong points, but it often gets overlooked. It has definitely made the pitching look worse than it actually is. The fact that the defense is improving is definitely a good sign.
  15. Thank god they sent him there. Saves CJ pitches and the possibility of a big inning.
  16. I meant in absolute terms, not relative to his career which is a pretty small sample size in which he did perform poorly in comparison. After looking at it, if you consider July/September of 2011 then he did worse in those months. He only played about half of each month, but his OPS was under .500 for each month and probably wouldn't have risen above .770 unless he went on fire.
  17. He was probably under a bunch of pressure for the first month of the season. The Angels as a team weren't playing well, Hamilton/Pujols weren't contributing, and Trout just came off a monster season with high expectations, so he may have been trying to do too much, even though he wasn't playing that poorly.
  18. Even though Vargas was probably tired, who else would you rather use early in the game in relief?
  19. Wow I did realize how bad the Dodgers were doing. Toronto too, after all the big name acquisitions. Toronto is 13-22 and the Dodgers are 13-20. The Angels are currently 11-22.
  20. In 2011 Bourjos had an OPS+ of 116
  21. Well his career ERA is 4.42. And we have good defense + a pitchers ballpark. With the rough start it probably won't happen this year but maybe next year.
  22. Even though in his career he's been a slightly below average pitcher, his ERA is 3 points below above his career average so yes that would qualify as a slow start. EDIT: Typo
  23. 1) Maybe 2 days off will give the team time to clear their heads and get it together 2) Verlander pitches tomorrow so we avoid him this weekend
