On Saturday's broadcast, Gubi said he counts 7 games. You can add tonight.

The good news is that the halos can still win the series and get back to back series wins for the first time since last season.
The Astros are a shell of their former selves, so I am optomistic.

Swordsman78 reacted to BTH in OC Register: Swanson: Time for Angels and their fans to lean into the long game
If you call playing young players in the majors rebuilding, sure.
IMO, there’s more to rebuilding than playing young players. It involves trading away players with value and investing in player development.

And as bad as the pitching has been overall, if you look up and down the FIP it seems bad defense/luck have stung them quite a bit too. All of the SP have a FPI under 5.00 now (Canning is right there at 4.99) and of all the active relievers, the only ones standing out as really poor are Moore (5.97) and Suarez (4.73). The rest are sub-4.00 or sub-3.00 even (Strickland, Garcia).
It seems like they are starting to stabilize a little bit and while I don't think this is a good team, it is starting to look more like a league average team and all things considered, that's a pretty great outcome and bodes well for 2025.

ZACH NETO:
Currently on pace for 24 doubles, 20 HR, 20 SB, 40 BB over 161 G Out of 176 plate appearances on the year, his last 100 of them are looking pretty good: .309/.350/.575/.925 with a reasonable .354 BABip. This is cherry-picking, yes, but I also don't think anyone expected a .900+ OPS from him. Starting to look a little like the Trea Turner-lite I hoped for. A 20/20 season is in reach. The power and contact have been a little better than expected and will probably come back to earth some. He's striking out a lot (on pace for 160 K) but not unexpected for a 23-year old that almost went straight to bigs. NOLAN SCHANUEL:
First 54 plate appearances: .093/.259/.163/.422 Last 118 plate appearances: .287/.328/.426/.754 and a .303 BABip, so not luck-driven. If those last 30 games are a sign of what his actual 2024 output may be, I don't think anyone would complain. Sure, the bat speed, baserunning and fielding have been underwhelming, but the discipline has been well above-average, even if it's not culminating in a ton of walks. Eventually that should change. Maybe the approach to coax more power threw off the mechanics. LOGAN O'HOPPE:
Despite a tough cold snap over the last month, still above-average offensive slash: .264/.321/.403/.723, 104 OPS+ Baseball Savant still has him well above-average as a hitter, with 75th Percentile or better in Sweet-Spot %, Hard-Hit %, Exit Velocity, and 65th Percentile or better for xwOBA, xBA, and xSLG I'd sacrifice some offense so long as he keeps growing defensively and building a rapport with the pitching staff, and even then seems like he'll be a slightly above-average catcher at that. Maybe has some streakiness in him. JO ADELL: (A picture is worth a thousand words)

LIGHT THAT BABY UP!!!!
A nail-biter at the end.
So far, 3 wins out of the first 4 in the Texas trip,.

Swordsman78 reacted to Slegnaac in Series wins leaders as of 5-19-24
Off the top of my head, assuming a 3 game and 4 game series win are valued the same....
3 game sweep = 1/4 of the series win value.
4 game sweep = 1/3 of the series win value.
However, I suspect there is someone that has a better idea based on Odds and Probability.

Swordsman78 got a reaction from T.G. in ESPN: Sources: Ex-Angels IF David Fletcher bet with Mizuhara bookie
It appears that part of the culture for an Angels player is not being 100% focused on winning games.
*waiting for KJP to rush in with a "dumb" or "troll" emoji.

Swordsman78 reacted to Blarg in Throwing Progression Question
Yes, that is the progress but in the case of Angels pitchers it goes from long toss to bullpen to being shut down due to back spams, restart process in 14 days, get to sim game, back on the IL with shoulder inflammation, 30 days later restart process, get to minor league rehab start, shut down for back pain again, restart process in 14 days, complete rehab start, pitch 4 innings for the Angels and leave game with dehydration, Tommy John surgery follows.

I took the teaser bet of Fletcher having more strikeouts as a pitcher than Rendon has home runs this year.
I’m winning that bet.

73 wins = tier 5 team
out by may 1st = tier 7 team
it's just common knowledge.

The 73 win season was entertaining up to the trade deadline. I'll take that over the being out of the race by May 1.

Swordsman78 reacted to T.G. in Perry Minasian is a Coward
The way I see it, this season has sucked about as bad as it can and if fans want to vent, they should vent. Call out the GM. Call out the players, the owner, the hot dog vendor, whoever. It's a frustrating time for some. Being angry is better than being apathetic. When I see threads like this, it just means some fans care. That's not a bad thing.
Now, is Minasian a coward? I have no idea. We're not privy to his conversations with Moreno. But hey... if someone wants to call him out - more power to them. Again, it just shows someone gives a rip.

Swordsman78 reacted to James in OC Register: Failed suicide squeeze costs Angels as comeback comes up short
Ron Washington's call to bunt was a terrible call, that was bad enough.
Ron Washington then not owning his mistake and blaming the player is deserving of being let go.
He asked a guy who wasn't even on the team until a few weeks back to lay down a bunt in a situation where a bunt made zero sense. Pitcher was wild and there was nothing that supported that you could feel comfortable that a strike was likely.
The Angels have an obvious culture issue at every level of the organization. Accountability sure seems to be lacking across the board.

Swordsman78 reacted to Chuck in OC Register: Failed suicide squeeze costs Angels as comeback comes up short
Our take:
I will also add that Ron Washington has no clue or is blind if he thinks Jo Jo Romero was in the strike zone. I mean, what game was he watching?
Lastly, you got to have your players back. I mean at the very least say it was a risky play (I mean it's called a suicide squeeze for a reason), and the pitch wasn't ideal for laying down a bunt.

Yep, he is a coward.
On one hand, I can’t blame him for doing whatever it takes to get a dream job (MLB GM).
But in doing so, he is a coward who’ll acquiesce to Arte rather than having some dignity.
