Because deep down, regardless of his previous resume, Maddon was a loose cannon and had to be removed.

    Pfft...
You want to wrap your mind around a real conundrum?  Try to determine who/what is more self absorbed.  Joe Maddon, or a black hole.

It was a shitty season.  I'd think any player who said otherwise was delusional or trying to pull one over on us.  There is absolutely nothing wrong or controversial about him saying what he said.

I haven’t read all this but I’m just going to drop in to point out that I’ve heard from people on both sides (uniform and non uniform) that there are (more successful) teams in which there is much more front office “influence” on managerial decisions than there is with the Angels.

It isn’t turning baseball into a computer simulation. It’s still played by humans. There’s a place for a manager and a place for a GM in todays game. The manager needs to do his job and work with the GM. You can trust a manager but that trust only goes so far. If you go off script then you are held accountable. Joe got a long leash.

I was becoming a fan of Minasian before because of the way he’s really improved the farm in the last couple of years. This takes it to a whole different level.
I am sure that one of the reason he was hired was to replicated the Braves approach to all things baseball. That seems like a good thing to me. The responsibility for overall team and organizational performance falls on him, not Maddon.
Maddon’s problem is that he thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room and that he was hired for his coaching instincts. Kudos to Minasian for having to balls to can his ass.

if i was the gm and my star player had complained of injury and was still in the game in a blow out, then i'd have some shit to say too that wouldn't wait. it's not just a fear. it's happened plenty of times to different teams.

I don't give a fuck about the Mohawk. I do give a fuck about Maddon ignoring the front office, his employer, as how to manage the game. He was defiant and wrong in his defiance and deserved to be fired.

When your position starts off by speculating what did or didnt happen you're not starting from a very solid spot.  What we do know is Theo said he needed to be removed and he gave his reasons why.  Reasons not unlike those we have now seen played out in Anaheim, best of all, we need not speculate about it because its been Maddon doing all the talking.
You need to understand that I was actually on here in game day threads pointing out when the info showed one thing and the Angels did the opposite.  There was no rhyme nor reason to things, sometimes they set up for a shift when the batter showed no tendencies, other times the data screamed "shift now you morons" and they wouldnt... It was unreal.  I bitched about it so much our resident beat writer mistook my ramblings as being anti-shift.  When I clarified I was pointing to usage, set ups, and defensive positioning, I was told "they have more info than you", a fact I couldn't deny so I'd shut the fuck up.
Fast forward to 2022, after firing some coaches and the GM putting one of his boys on the bench, the team suddenly started to shift when the data called for it. They stopped shifting when it said don't, suddenly almost magically the data readily available to us dopes was lining up perfectly with what the team did.  Amazingly whatever data the team had now matched the readily available data to us pissants -- can you believe the luck?  Lo and behold, the results were night and day diffferent, suddenly the pitching wasn't awful...
It was all a coincidence played out over the span of three years right?
As far as to whether or not we would have heard a out it it or not.... Do you think Maddon could get away with talking shit about Theo like he could Minasian?  Think maybe he's banking on people viewing the Angels as a dumpster fire so he is willing to shit all over the old mantra about keeping it in the clubhouse to save face???
Maddon is the only person talking shit.

I agree its tiresome and I'm glad its over but I don't think its as easy as saying a GM should know his place.
I spent two years watching games while tracking batter tendencies and publicly complaining about it in real time.  Not knee-jerk reactions based on poor outcomes, literally pointing out when they were doing the opposite of what the data argued they needed to do.  It frustrated me so much it flat out made me stop watching/caring for the first time in my life.
Now imagine becoming the GM of a MLB team, you build your staff to try to help your manager win, you bring in the guys your manager said he wanted only to watch him piss all over the information you're feeding him then sipping wine and quoting Cervantes in post games.  I'm amazed it took Minasian as long as it did before he went full Moneyball movie on Lord Maddon Keeper of Baseball's Faith, and Protector of All Things Holy.
People can pretend this is a rookie GM and that he's overstepping, but he basically had the same issues with a guy who may just be the greatest GM since Branch Rickey in Theo.

Maybe it could have been handled differently.   But, it seems that Maddon instead of discussing whether calls during the game were appropriate, went way overboard to his boss.
What happens in a normal work environment when an employee yells an F U to their boss?

Say what you will about the way Perry wants to run things, vs how Joe wants to run things. In the end the front office needs to run the show and the guys in the dugout need to be on the same page. This has been a hallmark of the Angels in the post Bill Stoneman era. Aside from one year we have always had a power imbalance between the front office and the manager position, with two guys who had different views about how to win games. This doesn't work in the modern game - everyone needs to be rowing in the same direction.

Again I want to go back to this call to the dugout being about protecting Mike Trout's health. Perry is trying to get him out of a meaningless game as discussed in the pre-game meeting (that Joe noted he dislikes) in order to protect the franchise. It is no coincidence that the impending losing streak that lead to Joe's dismissal was largely caused by Mike Trout playing through injury.

Minasian and Nevin apparently are much more on the same page than Minasian and Maddon were.
Isn’t that the important thing going into 2023?
Whatever happens after 2023 may well change the FO and who’s on the bench.
But in the meantime, I’m happy that 2023 has both on the same page.

Exactly. Put yourself in Perry's shoes. You don't want to be calling down to the dug out in the middle of the game. Joe is trying to paint him as a micromanager, but I think it's tough to get into Perry's position with that kind of management style.
Look at the reason he called down to the dug out, the Angels were up big in the 7th inning, Trout had complained about soreness before the game, and Maddon is leaving him in there because Mike had said it had died down. This is Perry protecting the franchise from Joe, not dictating a bunt, or a hit and run.
Let's also consider the context in which Joe is fired. Mike Trout was playing every day through the midst of a career worst slump, a slump brought on by a serious injury that required rest. There is something of a trend here.

Does any general. Manager wait until the day is over and call a meeting to talk over why the supervisor should put out the trashcan fire instead of just watch it take over the office? I'm thinking most yell at the idiot to grab the extinguisher and do something.
Maddon earned his phone calls during the game.

Did Perry also call down to the dugout and tell Maddon to walk a run in with the bases loaded?

I'm so glad Maddon is no longer here. The fact that he is narking on everything is even more pathetic. Dude will never get another managerial job with this griping. Perry was 100% right to fire this joke

Maddon was a drinking buddy hire, not Minasian's choice. He had to let him hang himself in front of Moreno before he could fire him. The bases loaded walk was the tipping point when all of the baseball media said, WTF?

TurboFan got a reaction from Blarg in Pujols intends to fulfill personal services contract, excited to see who the new owner is
As a fan interested in my team building an organization capable of consistently going deep into the playoffs in the future, the personal services clause in Pujols’ contract is of no interest to me. Not my business. The new owners will do whatever they think best with the clause. As for comments about Albert exacting revenge by insisting on fulfilling the obligation - pul-ease! Expecting a contract be honored cannot be revenge. Nobody who had such an agreement in writing would ever walk away from it because of what some fans think. The whole subject is a nothingburger to me. Beyond meat.

I don’t understand why some of you guys don’t think Pujols could be an asset to the front office and/or players if he wanted to do it.
