The starters were shitty because of Contreras, Bundy. Canning AND Heaney were shitty.
When they got demoted we went with Sandavol, Suarez, and Barria. The starting pitching was pretty solid. Add Ohtani and Cobb we had 6 starters with sub 4 ERA performances.
CROD, Diaz were also under 4 ERA and Junk was 4.16.
As good as the starting pitching rebounded, the problem remains that we only had one pitcher pitch more than 100 innings, Ohtani. We definitely need some starters who can go 150-200 innings, and take some of the pressure off the bullpen.

BTW, the Toronto Blue Jays....
Had to play at home in three different parks...
183 run differential,115 OPS+, 113 ERA+.
Only won one more game.
Something else to consider. While the Angels had to play against the two best National league teams (the Giants and the Dodgers, and Padres for that matter), the Blue Jays didn't have to play against the NL West and went 14-6 against the NL. The Angels went 11-9 against the NL. Also the Blue Jays got to play Baltimore (and many in their bandbox stadium) for 19 times. Would have been nice to have the Angels playing Baltimore 19 times instead of the Giants, Dodgers and Padres. Vlad Jr. loves playing in Baltimore, home run city.

Last night, the broadcast did a side-by-side comparison of his swing, from last year and last night. His leg lift isn't as high, his weight balance is more back, and there's much less movement in his bat. I'm sure there were others. But, bottom line, he's been working some things. Good to see.
Yep, cutting down on the wasted movement during the AB seems to have been very positive for Adell. Ohtani did the same thing, so did several others. I think the next one to follow suit should be Marsh.

A lot of you want to resign Jose Iglesias at SS, I don't. I would like to get a good look at Michael Stefanic this year at second base and Fletcher at SS before we go SS shopping. My priorities are one great starter, the pen rebuild, and a better backup catcher.

I'm sorry, but Gavin Cecchini shouldn't even be in the conversation with Michael Stefanic.
Cecchini has hit well since joining AAA, but you can't ignore that he hit .228/.263/.335 in 179 plate appearances in AA before moving to AAA.
As for Stefanic, I'm sure he will get a chance soon enough. He has to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to be protected from the rule 5 draft, and it seems like he will (especially since Minasian reportedly likes him). The fact that he has played 3B the last 2 games is an indication to me that he may even be next up on the depth chart if they move on from Mayfield being the starting 3B with Rendon out.
So it sounds like Cecchini likes altitude. He was a former number one pick of the Mets, but in 2012. He is 27, maybe a late bloomer?

Change the name to Indians.
No, I want to be the Guardian Angels. The Indians have suffered enough.

Maddon said Trout is healthy?
Maddon's a doctor now? I didn't know that. Then I'm an astronaut, and I leaving for Mars on Friday.

I'd get rid of Mayfield now and play Stefanic at 2B with Fletcher moving to 3B
Seems like Rengifo, Mayfield and Jose Iglesias might not be needed long term. Stefanic and Cecchini move around between 2B, SS and 3B frequently. I am going to have to watch more of the Bees games to see how these guys are progressing. Jackson is still in A ball, might be a couple of years before we see him up here, but he has promise at SS.
I am starting to get a little tired of Jose Iglesias chasing pitches too far out of the zone. 13 errors this year is probably out of character for him, but I wouldn't be too keen on paying him much to stay around after this year.

These two middle infielders Salt Lake are having very good hitting years. Why haven't we heard more about them? Has anyone here seen a review of their progress to date, and is there any chance we might see one or both in August or September?

Fletcher SS, Ohtani DH, Trout CF, Rendon 3B, Walsh 1B, Adell RF, Marsh LF, Stassi C, Stefanic 2B. That could be a lineup that would be very exciting when healthy.

The big question is, will this team ever have a relatively healthy season?
When even was the last season where injuries didn’t pile up more than normal?
1961, there was no normal then.

I still vent and follow the games so despite my "not caring anymore" narrative, it's obvious I do care at least a little.
But holy balls it is really hard to be a fan of this team. I never won't be, but I really have to distance myself.
I can't even get excited about Ohtani or Trout anymore. I'm absolutely jaded and I am sick of giving so much of my attention to this crap.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am 100% a fairweather fan at this point. I know this organization has been through far worse times, but I don't care. I wasn't around then. Right now, there's nothing but mediocrity, and we hope for a playoff spot that was put in place 9 years ago, and one they haven't been able to win in those 9 years (2014 Division Championship notwithstanding).
I don't know. I'm not "at peace" with anything. I've just had the passion completely sucked out of me (gross) by this organization.

What do we really know about Perry? Was he highly sought after? How much are they paying him?
1. He likes food.
2. Yeah, he came after they dumped Eppler.
3. Too much.
