I watched the Josh Hamitlon press conference and at the time Dipoto actually seemed surprised as if he wasn't even expecting the deal to happen. Hamilton talked about how he took a call from the club president (shortly after the Greinke signing happeend) and met with the President John Carpino and that Hamilton signed shortly thereafter. Dipoto never met with Hamilton personally.
 
While Dipoto was likely involved, I believe the signing was at least highly pressured by Moreno himself.

Many veteran baseball reporters, including Buster Olney and others, have relayed the Boohols and Hamilton signings were ownership driven.
Sorry, I just don't believe everything I read. I choose to believe the experience of a seasoned reporter more than a PR statement from an owner.

I think we should start every game with the bullpen first. That way we can get a good gauge on how many runs we are going to need to win the game before we put in our shutdown starters.

Dysfunctional; we have a field Manager that has a much more lucrative contract than his boss (Dipoto) and we have a GM that probably doesn't have the authority to fire his field Manager.  
 
It's complicated to say the least.

Tell you what I find more telling.   Mike Scioscia normally makes one of his "I believe this is a Championship caliber" type speeches when the team stumbles out of the gate.   I don't remember him doing that this year -- or I missed it when he did.  This year, it's almost always been about the team still trying to find itself or something along those lines.
 
I think Dipoto's long term vision for this team is the right course of action, but anyone unwilling to put this roster on him is kidding themselves.  Even if we pawn Hamilton and Pujols on Arte, this pen and that rotation are entirely Dipoto.

Wow I'm not a fan of Rosenthal but he lays this out pretty good. This team is dysfunctional. Scioscia and Dipoto haven't been on the same page since the not so stealthy after all JeDi came aboard.

On paper, this team is the best team he's ever been handed.
