Unfortunately this opinion is seen as trolling even though it's the only thing that makes sense.

Well I’m just saying F the standings. We had a lot of bad luck this season so let’s just start building for next season and beyond. Forget about chasing the Mariners this season. Eppler should just fold earlier than normal and get a head start on the future. There are players on the current roster that are not part of the long term plan anyway so start moving them. Why wait?

I think he gets "promoted" to the FO in some capacity.  The ever popular consultant would be my guess.

    The OP’s question....

With a lousy bullpen, a oft injured starting rotation (3 years running), a bench that has to be one of the worst in baseball, one that doesn’t make sense and hasn’t for a couple of years, a team that has a ton of one dimensional players, why would Scioscia choose to return next year?

So with that being said why would he be willing to accept some other position in the organization? Giving him a new desk in the corner office doesn’t help the bullpen. I think he becomes obsolete once he leaves the dugout.

Plenty of narratives in this thread but the answer is Scioscia has said he likes where he is at and what he is doing. If given the opportunity he would continue.

If not then I believe he would seek out another managerial position because I don't think he feels he is done with the sport. Economics will have no bearing on that decision, he is financially secure.

Scioscia would be a perfect fit for the Baltimore Orioles or the NY Mets. I hope he finds work.

...what's the plan? Moose? Someone else? Or do we handle this internally? (:()

Eppler should reach out to his old boss and ask about Brandon Drury. He’s playing in AAA simply because there’s no room for him on the ML roster. He’s a 25 year old natural 3B who had some migraine issues earlier this season and lost his starting job to phenom rookie Andujar. I think he wants out of the Yankees organization to play at the ML level.

Piggybacking on True Grich's comment in The Blame Game thread regarding Ohtani, what happens if Ohtani is able to DH? How does that affect Pujols, Valbuena, etc.?

I think that we’ve kinda hit the hurricane eye of the storm. We have some older players that will be transitioning out and a few injuries that need to heal. We have Trout’s contract extension looming. It’s going to happen eventually but not as fast as we’d like.

    You didn't answer  the questions.

Well if you want my opinion I believe they had good intentions and high expectations with Upton, Cozart, Kinsler and Ohtani. Winning with these guys and the core was their goal. They went all in and that goal failed. They can’t backpedal at this point so they’re just going to have to wing it the rest of the season.

Is the objective of management to make sure their team gets to the playoffs or ensure that they're in the position to continually compete for a playoff spot? Is it the same thing?

A lot of people here don't think we can make the playoffs this year and want to start afresh in 2019. They believe that we would have to give up essential minor leaguers in order to make a run this year or that giving up said minor leaguers wouldn't gain us a playoff spot anyway. So I'm wondering what the goal is.

Reality says that we are closer to last place than we are to the second wild card spot. I say bring up some kids and send some people packing. They should at the very least bring in a new manager right away to help start working with Eppler on plans for 2019 and beyond. Let’s start the transition now. Maybe it will kickstart the team.

Let's not forget that Moreno signs the checks.  Maybe Eppler only had a certain amount of money to spend.  He needed to take care of too many problems thus the cheap bullpen plan.  Would you rather he didn't get 3 position players and sign 3 bullpen arms instead?  Cozart and Kinsler haven't worked out so far and hopefully Upton stays productive for another 4 1/2 years.  $ could very well be the reason Eppler did what he did with the pen.

    this^^^^^

People think that Ontani came cheap this season but in Arte’s eyes it cost him $23M+ to get him.

“win now” has been put on hold.
