mmc got a reaction from Ace-Of-Diamonds in C.J. Cron
Hindsight is, of course, 20/20, but does anyone else feel like we didn't give him nearly as much of a chance as we should have? I thought this at the time, and he has turned into an above average first baseman since leaving.

mmc got a reaction from Chuck in Cody Allen DFA'd
Because it's indicative of the fact that Eppler is absolutely clueless when it comes to free agent contracts, which scares the hell out of me.

Joe Blanton (-0.4 fWAR, $15 million)
Sean Burnett (-0.1 fWAR, $9.5 million)
Ryan Madson ($3.25 million, didn't pitch)
Tommy Hanson (0.4 fWAR, $3.75 million)
Total: -0.1 fWAR, $31.5 million
Matt Harvey (-0.2 fWAR, $11 million)
Trevor Cahill (-0.5 fWAR, $9 million)
Cody Allen (-0.7 fWAR, $8.5 million)
Total: -1.4 fWAR, $28.5 million
The latter group, while $3 million cheaper, has been worth 1.3 wins less. Gotta go with them.

I wasn't calling for us to sign them. I was calling for us to, if we were going to go dumpster diving, pay those pickups appropriately. Us making Allen the highest paid reliever on a one year deal, and him making over twice as much as the third highest paid reliever, is my issue.

No, I would rather have Greg Holland ($3.25, 1.99 ERA, 0.3 fWAR), Jake Diekman ($2.75M, 4.76 ERA, 0.4 fWAR), or Shawn Kelley ($2.75M, 2.66 ERA, 0.2 fWAR).

So the highest paid reliever on a one year deal last offseason gets DFA'd in the middle of June...

mmc got a reaction from Lou in Time for Kevan Smith to take over as starting catcher
Why would the Padres trade one of their top 15 prospects for a backup catcher in a year where they probably won't make the playoffs?
