I'd be willing to put more blame on the organizational philosophy than on Wise. I know I'm old but I'd really prefer to see more well-placed fastballs early in the count. 93 on a corner at the knees is better than 96 out of the zone or in the fat of the plate or a slider that's never near the zone

I hear ya, but I'm not sure Detmers has that type of control.

VELO is similar to Running Speed.. You can't teach it!

You can attempt to manufacture it.

But, you still can't Over throw it, over spin, over grip, fly open, rush through your mechanics.

However, then body structure and structure of the shoulder, elbow joints come into play and the tendons. Which we see in TJ surgeries.

    it's all relevant.

Thats why we went from guys like me in the 80's 5-10 89-91 nothing was straight.

    To 90's 6-4+ guys 95-98.

To everyone today has to over do the push and finish and snap and at the same time need to get on Top of the ball.

To Today's open slot insert and manufacture it. Turn them out burn them out and keep sending them in.

Similar to Joyce he throws gas. He was rushing through his break and push in that 9-6 ASTRO game and was bouncing which led to his front side leaking and then leading with his elbow and pushing which caused the elbow issue. Then he tried to pitch through it against the Cubs 4 days later samething bouncing through it. Then he faced what 1 hitter vs Seattle and has been done since.

If you could get a guy to throw only 90-92 mph and save that 96+ for maybe every 5-6 pitch, it would keep hitters off-balance more. I also think more pitcher need to learn better pitch combinations. By this, I mean, pitches that look simpilar but have slightly different movement. 4-seem to 2-seem, 4-seem to slider, slider to cutter etc... Mastering changing speed with every pitch gives you countless combinations, that if you can control well, make it near impossible to hit.

Which is correctable due to their mechanical issues. Leaking open, landing on their heal and spinning out. Dropping their elbows. That's just over throwing which then their stuff doesn't elevate and stays flat or just Frisbees.

That's where the minor league development, pitching coaches and bullpen coaches come into play. IF you see something. Say something.

Repeatable mechanics. Staying on top and Sequencing.

I agree. I may be wrong on this but I think that too many in this organization, as well as baseball as a whole, focus primarily on velocity and not control.

I'd like to see a knuckleballer in the bullpen soaking up innings on consecutive days, sacrificing for everyone else. Tim Wakefield where have you gone?

Some guy with the Padres throws one; cant remember his name.

I've been harping on this all season and last since Wise took over. Your analytics are broken if you miss up it's dyck high. IF you spin it up there it's a Frisbee. And the sequencing is trash!

Rule #1 has never changed in the history of the game. Get a head in the count.

Rule #2 pound the lower half of the strike zone.

Rule #3 change the eye level or waste a pitch in the dirt. (This is where Velo up or Spin Rate in the Dirt comes in to play).

I've spoken with many in the organization and a few outside old timers. We have all came to the same conclusion.

The pitching philosophy is broken based on Velo up in the zone, Spin Rate, Sequencing, one person who does what he wants, vets who do what they're good at, and the kids need to fit in a box.

It's time to learn how to pitch, movement, change speeds and hit locations.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

It doesnt take a genius to see that none of these pitchers control the zone. All struggle hitting their spots.

to have a good shot at the playoffs.  71 games, that's a record of around 47 wins and 24 losses.  So, after they sweep the Astros this weekend, that brings the total down to 44.  Fortunately, they play many of the opponents that are ahead of them, so it makes it easier to make up ground.  I am of the belief that they aren't nearly as bad as they had been the past 10 games.

You keep Ohtani.  There is zero chance they get fair market value for him.  Trade for some pitching. You need some guys to come back like Neto and then if you get Trout, it's like getting an all-star in the heat of the race without losing anyone.

This CAN happen.  Who's with me?

Its not about getting market value. What does that even mean in Ohtani's case? Its about getting something as opposed to getting nothing.

It turns out that way, but...dial back to March, and the team looked a lot better than it did in October of 2022. There was reason to be at least cautious hopeful.

My quick opinion is that all hiters swing for the fences so runners dont move and pitchers are more concerned with velocity rather than location.

%&=÷×!!!! A relief pitcher in the 4th inning because Canning went mental midget because of a couple errors. And best is they pull Herget out of the bullpen after stinking in AAA, like that won't crossover to the Majors.

Now fan interference and these jackasses are congratulating themselves for fucking over their own team. Can we get an usher to kick these lardass idiots out of the stadium!

Story of Canning, Suarez, and Detmers. Any adversity and they are done. I'd see if I could package them to a sucker for something.

I don't think we're going to "fall out of contention", if by that he means 10 games back in the Wild Card standings.  If we're squarely in the mix for the Division and the Wild Card, not a hard call to keep him, even if you later lose him.....The tough call, which is certainly possible, is what do you do if you're on the fringe of the Wild Card standings, maybe 5-6 games behind, maybe a little below .500? I dunno.....I know it's probably not a popular sentiment but I'd probably trade him to salvage what I can....

IN the case you outline, I think you must trade him. Cant let him go for nothing.

    Finally.

Finally the players address what has seemed so obvious. This isn’t just a Perry problem, or a “bad players” issue. Guys have regressed in the last 8 weeks in a way that doesn’t even make sense. But I think this article sheds a lot of light on the hitting philosophy issue. Guys are clearly frustrated with what they’re being told to do—something like waiting for the perfect pitch at the expense of fastballs in the zone. Stassi, Ward, Marsh, Walsh, and Trout all swing at a below league avg rate of zone pitches. And when they come out and say they don’t like that, it’s clear they are being told to wait for their pitch. Wait for their pitch. Walsh said way too many 2 strike counts and I am conducting that train. Unlike you level headed logical humans, I watch nearly every game. And I watch at least these 5 guys stare at zone pitches, get into 2 strike counts, and as a result strike out way more than they were early in the year. It has ruined Marsh, asking him to constantly work in 2 strike counts.

This feels vindicating for me. I knew Reed was doing something to mess with these guys’ approach, and these guys all but confirmed it.

Exactly, it would take a fool not to recognize that their approach has definitely changed since even last year. You cant let pitches go by that you can hit hard. This is especially true when you are in a position where a runner needs to advance. Advancing runner is almost non-existant with this team.
