I feel like I should also mention that, if prices for Darvish and Arrieta are falling, they may be falling for Lynn, Cobb, Garcia, Hellickson, etc. as well. Obviously a whole different tier of pitcher, but any would still provide some stability to a rotation full of question marks.

I don't think there's a single SP on the roster right now who's pitched a complete season at a big-league level over the last two seasons. Ohtani included (if you count NPB).  Heck out of all of them, only Shoemaker may have single season's worth of starts combined over the last two years.

Nail on the head right here. How some people are content with the rotation and "depth" we have right now blows me away. We need someone that's actually pitched consistently the past few seasons.

lol no, you can still go after free agents when they are under 30 and you dont have a real replacement waiting in the minors.  I think Hosmer would have been a perfect free agent signing right now.  But unfortunately we are still paying for the Pujols mistake.

And the free agent 2b class next year would have been great since the angels dont have a 2b ready in the minors.

So you're essentially saying signing a 31 year old to a 5 year deal is insane but signing a 29 year old to a 7 year deal is cool.

  3. The more I've thought about it the more I'm down to give him a short 3 year/$90-100 deal. The AAV of $33 could be enough to get the deal done. Maybe a 4th year option that kicks in if an innings limit is reached. A 3 year deal doesn't hinder us at all. It'll be done by the time Trout's deal comes through. Pujols will be on his way out too. Doesn't cost us a pick either.

  4. Last night was my first game in person this year. Man... The defense is so bad in person. You really get a look at how truly bad they are. Bieksa with who knows how many pure awful passes in our own zone that lead to 2 goals. TWO! Hampus, Montour, Fowler all looked bad too. How is Hampus getting beat to everything?! He loses so many battles for pucks. He just gets pure out muscled by opponents. He's taken such a step back. Fowler had some really bad shifts too. When I'm praising Manson you know the D overall is bad lol.

Like Nate said, Pitt has been on a tear as of late and didn't have their top goalie. It's a great win for the Ducks. Got a lot to clean up still obviously but it's a good start to the home stand.

NHL Rumors: The Ottawa Senators Are Receiving Plenty Of Trade Calls

That would leave Hoffman and Smith.  Smith doesn't look like much.  But Hoffman is a 28 year old, 50-60 point a year player.  Left handed shot.  $5.817 Cap hit till 19-20.

Cap hit is the big problem.  Ducks would have to send people their way.  That stupid JT Brown pickup is eating up some cap space, but maybe he could be included?  JT Brown to clear cap space, Ritchie, and hopefully nothing better than a 3rd?  Holzer also to clear up cap space?  Or would you have to include Kase, which then wouldn't be that great for us.

Hoffman is an interesting name. LW/C making $5.1 AAV for this year and 2 more. Can bank on him for 25 goals a season. Probably more if you surround him with talent like Rakell and Getzlaf. Plus, he's only 28 so right in his prime. We have $3.1 to play with right now if I'm reading the capfriendly page correctly. Definitely gotta shed some fat if we make this move happen. Also, factor in Montour, Kase, Ritchie are RFAs after this season so they'll get a bump in pay. Bieksa's $4 comes off but Manson's new contract essentially takes that money's place. Of all the guys on the team I hope its Silf that gets traded. I don't think he's ever going to hit his offensive potential. He's making $3.8 for what he's producing. Would be funny to send him back to his original team lol.

Honestly.  If they don’t rip off a solid streak and gain some ground here in the next week or so.  It’s going to be time to consider throwing in the towel this season.  For all kinds of reasons, including the injuries this group might just not be good enough in a very competitive division.  The d has massively underpreformed.  Even for those who were pessimistic about having Bieksa and Beauchmin in prominent roles.  They have preformed far below expectations.

Up front the injuries really killed us.  But things have also not worked out.  Ritchie sucks.  No doubt the Ducks front office were hoping for him to be a top 6 player.  Silvferberg as always is so steaky that he just can’t be relied on for consistent offense.  Rakell has surged of late but we didn’t get much for long stretches.   Perry hasn’t given us anything hardly.

Getzlaf is the only guy preforming at a level that matches his pay.  Just to many guys playing like  fucking bums.  It just doesn’t work.  All the money is tied up in guys that are dissapointing as shit.  Maybe some of that is coaching, but I’m sorry.  It’s time to hold Bob Murray accountable.  To many misses with the players getting older.  The Ducks right now look like they’ve fucking blown it.  I seriously want significant changes.  This group isn’t going to win a cup.

Im seriously open to trading any of the guys that don’t have NTC.

Unfortunately, that's a very small list thanks to GMBM.

  7. Ducks are in such a shitty position now. 4 pts out of a playoff spot and all but I believe 1 team ahead of us has games in hand. SJS has 4! We're also only 8 points from the 3rd pick % in the draft. Like UTH said, if they don't get moving in the next 2 weeks I'd consider selling at the deadline and going for that lottery pick. Defense just doesn't have it. Speed teams are going wild on this ancient system Carlyle has in place. Of course anything can happen but I just don't think this team has what it takes.

Cogliano is getting paid third line money, no problem and he is the only dude that goes out there every game, works his ass off and plays a great two way game.  Stop thinking of him as some big time scorer, he isn't getting paid like he is.

Also, despite being on the shutdown line, PK and not the PP, he has one of the best Corsis on the team.

You can't be a 2 way player if you don't have any offense in your game, Nate ;)

Perry. Yeah, i've never agreed that this is our window of opportunity since he fell off the table. It leaves too big of a hole and too much to overcome to have one of your top 2-3 contracts go to a player performing at a third line level.

Not surprised with the Cogliano contract. I never thought there was a chance the Ducks would let him go while the streak was alive. Plus, he's worth 3M. The hands hurt, but he's a character guy. Kind of Bieksa without the mistakes. One thing I will predict. Barring serious injury, he'll be a better player when this streak thing ends. I think it's holding him back a bit.

So what you're saying is I should do him a solid and club him in the knee for his own good.

Curious as to why?  At $3.25 million, he brings at least that much value to the team.  Sure he's not flashy or anything.  But on the shutdown line, he seems to do his job.  I don't recall him ever being out of position or burned so bad that we are typing 200 words a minute on the forums.  Sure I'd have issues if he got $4 or 5 million.  But a slight raise from what he's getting now, I still think it's a good deal.

I just can't stand him. I specifically remember a play in  the WCF last season where he murdered us on a play that lead to a NSH gwg. That's another story tho lol. Plenty of guys have bad games. Cogs just doesn't do it for me. Too many whiffs when she's wide open and on breakaway chances. He's incredibly overvalued imo. That iron man streak is the biggest reason he's relevant and that's not even that big of a deal. You don't pay 3.25 for a primary defensive FW. It's not going to break our bank and hinder us from other moves but I just simply don't think it's a move that needed to be made. I did like Cogs at one point. Then after he got his extension and took an epic shit offensively that's when I started to dislike him. I fully admit it's irrational hate but my mind is made up lol.

The bigger problem is not what he called the countries and whether it was accurate or not, it's the fact that he doesn't know why or think they should be coming here because they are from "shithole" countries.
