  1. The Angels need to go out and have one of the best off-seasons in team history and flip this club around. We've said this year after year but at some point the front office has to listen.
  2. I certainly hope they want to be near the strip..... Unless they have plans to continue their shitty attendance, which would be a classic Athletic move.
  3. Very true, though Upton's sever decline has me worried about trading one of Adell/Marsh. Maybe Arte says "F-it" and literally signs 2 frontline guys. Only time will tell but i'll remain pessimistic about their plans....
  4. 2 frontline starters? Scherzer and who else? Kershaw, Greinke? all old guys..... But damn I'd love to see Arte whip it out and pay bank for some frontline starters...... Get Scherzer, re-sign Iglesias and Cobb then get another ace and this club would be legit scary to watch...
  5. Agreed. Though I wouldn't mind him recruiting Bryant...
  6. Exactly, we're on the same page. Detmers 100% earned his call-up, but the problem that Maddon (I think) is pointing out is we're calling up young guys (who have earned it), but the FO didn't do anything at the deadline to try and improve the rotation for a playoff push. Let alone, the whiffs they have had in the offseason over the years. Which is why Maddon says they needed to "get guys that we think are ready to win right now".
  7. Exactly, but as he does that he will hit his bumps as he gets used to the hitters (like he is right now). While he develops in the bigs, the Angels need to be focused with proven pitchers to carry them into October. Something we can all agree on and I think that's what Maddon is trying to say.
  8. I get your point. And I didn't mean it to seem like we need him to pitch like an ace right out of the gates. My point being is that the rotation right now mainly consists of guys who weren't on the Opening Day Roster to start with. Sure, it's nice to see guys like Detmers playing, but because the rotation is so depleted, we see ourselves depending on him to get us wins. On the other hand, teams like the Dodgers are making deals in the offseason and trade deadline to acquire proven dominant arms. Maddon quoted it best...."get guys that we think are ready to win right now".... Detmers has a bright future, but he's not the player that gets added to the roster to make the playoff push.
  9. You've got a good point with this. My one concern is the calling out Minasian part. Take our last 3 GM's for example and at the end of the day, the result is the same thing. One thing I give credit to Minasian for him not being afraid to move on from players. Pujols, Iglesias and others struggled and he didn't play contracts. If anything, Maddon expressing his feeling towards the team should 100% be on Arte Moreno. Sure, he's not been afraid to go out and spend (Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Rendon), but the issue is where he's putting his money and how much say he has doing those moves. A dude worth $3 billion dollars that's sitting in a huge market with a lucrative TV deal and plans to completely re-build the platinum triangle shouldn't be sitting with an internal budget between $180M-$190M. You've got one of the best players to ever play the game in his prime and a 2-way star that's likely to win the MVP. Build around them, spend the money and go win this F-ing thing.....
  10. @jsnpritchett Detmers has earned it, but usually prospects coming up don't have immediate success. In this case the Angels are relying on him to be dominant and win games right away which won't help the team at all. I assume what Maddon means is have MLB proven guys like the Dodgers do and then allow the young arms to get called up but not be heavily relied on immediately to dominate. He's right.... They need MLB proven arms. Something that we've been saying for years now but the front office is sitting fat and happy on their thumbs.
  11. I'm honestly forgetting what it's like to play meaningful baseball in September and it's heartbreaking. Seeing how low the crowd was on Monday night when I went to the game was embarrassing. It wouldn't matter the day of the week, if this was a playoff team then the stadium would be packed. Dodger stadium is a pain in the ass to get in during the week and yet they still pack the seats. Sell the team, Arte. Get out of here.
  12. Have to imagine that Syndergaard and Rodon can be had for less that what Scherzer/Kershaw/Ray would get. Though a risk..... Go with one of them, re-sign Cobb and then swap a trade for someone like Mayer and you've got one hell of a rotation. Ohtani/Thor/Cobb/Sandoval/Detmers/Meyer. (plus Suarez/Rodriguez/Bachman can be used in bullpen if needed)
  13. Upton's injury and recent history of a big decline makes the outfield situation extremely complicated. Add Trout's injury issues and it gets even worse. First being the rumored Marsh/Meyer trade with Miami. Assuming talks pick back up in the offseason, our outfield becomes a huge question mark should one of Marsh or Adell be moved. The Angels might need to dip into the FA market for an outfielder this season. And I thought pitching was the main concern....
  14. Every GM will say "we will look in every area to make the team better". So yes, expect the unexpected. Plus, Rendon and Trout have no trade clauses so of course they are safe.
  15. Verlander won a Cy Young.... Either way I'd choose neither of them.
  16. This is a very good topic to post so let's talk a bit about this: Do I approve of what Moreno has done? I said moderately disapprove. The only reason why I can't give the worst rating is the fact that he spends money. I have to thank him for that (no matter how stupid he is with it)... Though I wish he'd see what the Dodgers are doing.... Do I approve of what Minasian has done? I moderately approve (surprisingly). I like where he's taking the farm and how he's been quick to get rid of bad players (Pujols, Iglesias, Eaton, Claudio). He's also been quick to keep the farm moving and it's a good breath of fresh air. Now that he knows the team better, his real grade comes after this offseason with WHO HE BRINGS IN. Do I approve of what Maddon has done? Moderately disagree. Believe it or not, his extreme optimism has bugged the hell out of me. I also haven't been a fan of his lineup card and his quick hooks on the field.
  17. I mean technically any team can win it next year right? So yes....
  18. I mean I guess we can sign Verlander if that means AW get's a thread on Kate Upton pics/gifs
  19. Good point, but given the initial names on our side and the help it could have given us for that season plus the way Pages looks makes it tough to let go. Having another solid outfielder developing would make me feel better about trading away Adell or Marsh.
  20. The only info I ever saw were Rengifo and Ward. Possible another prospect outside our top 10.
  21. Pederson would have been a free agent heading into 2021 anyways.... Considering that the Angels haven't made the playoffs and were offering Ward and Rengifo.... I would have taken that deal any day.
  22. Remember him? One of the players that should have been an Angel in the nixed Pederson/Stripling deal? Dude has a plus-plus arm and just mashed his 30th homer in the minors. He's only 20. Thanks, Arte.
