  1. Exactly. But it’s still fun to speculate and get excited about the possibility of drafting someone who can be a solid future contributor for the big league club. I don’t have the eye for being able to assess talent like most of you on here, so it’s always insightful to read what you all have to say. It’s appreciated.
  2. It doesn’t work that way. The Blue Jays were a better team with him, even if it was for a short period of time.
  3. Looks like BA and Bleacher Report both have the Angels taking Allan. I hope they do, but you never know with this team.
  4. Shoemaker’s ($3.5M) in those 5 starts: 1.2 bWAR, 0.6 fWAR By most WAR valuations, that is getting your money’s worth.
  5. School: Eastlake (Calif.) HS Year: Senior Position: 3BAge: 17 DOB: 06/02/2001 Bats: R Throws: RHeight: 6'0" Weight: 185 lb.Commitment: San Diego State WATCH Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50 Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, Calif., hasn't had a player taken in the top few rounds since Adrian Gonzalez was the somewhat surprising No. 1 overall pick of the Marlins back in 2000. Thanks to a breakout fall and a consistently solid spring, Cavaco has popped up to be the next from Eastlake to likely go in the early stages of the Draft. Cavaco first started getting attention for his complete tools package at the Angel Elite showcase in the fall, where his tremendous raw power particularly stood out. The only question about his offensive profile is how consistently he'll hit to get to that power, as there is some swing and miss to his game. Beyond the bat, Cavaco will show flashes of plus tools across the board. He's clocked sub four-second times home to first out of the box and he has the chance to be a plus defender at third, with very good hands, footwork, a plus arm and a willingness to stick his nose in the dirt. The industry was sleeping on Cavaco, who wasn't invited to most of the summer showcase circuit events, so there is a lack of track record and the infielder hasn't been challenged against tough competition like some have. But scouts are awake now, pouring in to see this pop-up prospect, one who is now likely to go early enough to forego his commitment to San Diego State. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019/?list=draft
  6. 15. Angels: Keoni Cavaco, 3B, Eastlake HS (Chula Vista, Calif.) Cavaco’s stock has been on the rise all spring and whispers of him climbing up to this part of the Draft now seem a lot more solid. The fact he’s turned in some 70 (on the 20-to-80 scouting scale) run times and started playing shortstop (and doing it well) has only helped his helium. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/2019-mlb-mock-draft-on-may-23.html
  7. Why were the Yankees scouting Skaggs and Heaney last July if Eppler wasn’t open to trading them? If it was definitive he was not trading them, I’m sure the Yankees of all teams would have known.
  8. Guaranteed Ausmus is going to give some BS justification in that douchey tone he always has when get gets defensive.
  9. Here’s the list of active contracts given to shortstops for comparison: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/contracts/shortstop/
  10. $100 million for Simmons’ age 31-35 years? Bogaerts got $120 million for his age 27-32 seasons, with $20 million vesting option for age 33. I think a 3 year extension for ~$45 million (after the $15 million he’s set to make in 2020) plus a 4th year $15 million option is more realistic.
  11. Here’s something that might help: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb.com/210477932-biggest-mlb-prospects-traded-in-recent-history.amp.html A lot of those trades look ugly right now. I’m surprised they don’t have the Simmons trade on that list.
  12. If the Reds begin to tear the team down, I think this may be something worth exploring. What would it take to get both? Adell, Barria, Jackson, Suarez?
  13. I wish we would have kept Shoemaker. His 0 runs allowed over 7 innings in his first start would have been nice to have yesterday.
  14. The two balls in the strike zone called balls against Grossman were BS.
  15. Cahill gives up back to back HRs to the first two batters. I bet you really wish you were at the other game now.
  16. He was who I was thinking of when I said that Adell was punished for getting promoted to Double-A. Kirilloff, a 21 year old OF (was 20 during the season) who has yet to reach Double-A got ranked 5 spots better than Adell, who reached Double-A at age 19. Adell is the only position player with four 60 grade tools (per MLB Pipeline) not in the top 10.
  17. I just saw that. 14. Adell 63. Canning I feel like MLB Pipeline is punishing Jo for moving up to Double-A instead of staying in the lower levels and continuing pad his numbers.
  18. Greinke is owed $104.5 million from the Diamondback. $95.5 million after the $9 million in signing bonus still owed by them. If Arizona covered the $2 million trade assignment bonus + $15 million more, and we only need to send back a package of Jose Suarez + Brennon Lund, would you do it? 2019-2021: $21 million per year 2022-2026: $17.5 million total (After $15 million from Arizona) ”3 year” / $80.5 million is much more intriguing with money deferred this way. I don’t think Arizona will eat anymore money without receiving more from the Angels in return.
  19. I don’t believe it’s been noted on here, but part of Greinke’s salary is deferred to 2022-2026. He only receives $21 million per year through 2021. “...the deal includes salaries of $31 million in each of the first three seasons, $31.5 million in 2019 and $32 million in each of the final two years. But he will receive $21 million of the money during each season, with the remainder deferred.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/77077480
  20. Hello everyone. I finally created an account after years of daily viewing. I’ve been an Angels fan for about 10 years. I wasn’t a fan of baseball before then, but watching the Halos led me to love the sport. I look forward to contributing to the Angels talk!
