  1. You are per usual playing strawman with what I said. If Ohtani has a 10 year deal for $450M-$500M on the table he's not signing a 6-7yr deal. Just stop. You could maybe make the argument that elite starting pitchers can go 3 years at a time and maximize earnings since the market has proven to be inelastic to them in relation to age/injury. But hitters are almost always better off taking the most $$ now. Degrom has barely played the last few years but he's still going to get paid like he had no injuries. If a hitter had 200PA in his FA year he would certainly be looking at a reduced contract. Ohtani is both and I'm sure he will get and take a 10y deal from either NYM/LAD/SEA. If he was just a SP I think he'd be more open to scenarios of 3-5yrs if the AAV was 1.5x of his long term offers.
  2. Trout still has positive trade value he's not Rendon like some seem to think. MLBtradevalues still has him over 20 points so prob a top 100mlb prospect plus taking on the entire contract would be considered fair. No way is that worth it for the Angels so he's not going anywhere unless Trout demands it.
  3. Degrom is gonna break Scherzer’s AAV this off-season. Prob $45m but who knows maybe even up to $50m if he kills it this post season. There’s the floor for Ohtani’s AAV. Lol at Ohtani accepting a 6 year deal or something incentive laden. He’s gonna want a 10 yr deal. No player wants to enter free agency in his mid to late 30s. He might accept deferred money to make the final numbers work but the end result will be a record breaking sports contract larger than Mahomes.
  4. The pitching WAR seems off this year. I don’t remember it ever being lopsided this much between position players and pitchers. No pitcher has over a 5.7 that can’t be right. Alcantara has 200+in and he’s been less valuable than Edman, McNeil, and Murphy? Come on that’s ridiculous. Even if you told everyone before the season Edman would give you more WAR than Alcantara whose season would you rather have on your ballclub 99% are gonna say Alcantara.
  5. I think new regimes always want their own guy, Maddon is coming out pretty strong right now so there was obviously some friction that we weren't privy to at the time. If we didn't go on a historic losing streak he'd still be manager so it was more about results than anything he did. He was at least going to play out his contract. The problem with the Angels is obviously bigger than a manager, a GM, or any one player. Doubt anyone could have "motivated" this group to the playoffs.
  6. lol Perry was doing the fake tears when Albert was released, once I saw that I realized he's a showman. No way he'd actually be sad about having to cut phat Albert.
  7. Most managers are just figure heads at this point, they're the fall guys the FO wants to redirect fan's anger to when things aren't going well. The roster construction might have manager input but they are now being hired more as middle men to link the FO and players. The skillsets they are looking for now are things like good communicators, leaders, etc not decision makers, innovators. It's resembling more like a manager job at a corporation where soft skills are important, the actual baseball decisions are being made by computers.
  8. This lineup is great! ... for a team trying to tank for a top 3 pick. If that's the goal give Perry an extension and let's give the fanbase a goal to shoot for. Only 5 games back from the #2 overall pick. We're also closer to the #1 overall pick than we are to a wild card slot so there's that too.
  9. 4 or 5 of May, Miller, Pepiot, Busch, Vargas, Pages and I think we have to pull the trigger even if it's a blow to Arte's ego sending him across town. His arbitration # is going to be sky high too cutting into our potential funds for FA. We won't be competing anyways with our two big contracts on the IL for 75% of 2023 most likely.
  10. I've got it on stream as one of my tabs, I can multitask I guess you can't?
  11. today felt like a gut punch, idk why cause we weren't winning anyways but it was pretty demoralizing
  12. Don't think the Mets are a good trade fit, they are the biggest threat in FA but don't really match up well since they can't really offer pitching. The Dodgers are the best bet if a trade was going to happen. Padres #2. The trade calculator says May/Miller/Pepiot/Pages or Busch would be fair for Ohtani. Gore/Abrams/Grisham would also be "equal" according to the simulator.
  13. I'd be willing to take a reasonable bet against that. I can use venmo. I think his agent wants to beat the highest sports contract aka Mahomes. The asking price is minimum $450m/10yrs on top of his last extension year to take him to age 39 same as Trout. IF Arte was willing to offer that I think his agent still wouldn't be totally sold b/c he prob wants to see what the Mets/Dodgers + maybe some random team like SEA will do that is in love with the idea of signing the modern day Ruth. Ohtani's free agency has the chance to be bigger than Lebron's, Harper's, and pretty much everyone else in the history of modern sports especially if he goes into it being the 1st AL player to win back-back-back MVP's (Bonds did it in the NL). An Arod-Texas type deal out of nowhere to break all records is prime to take place.
  14. The Trout is done threads come up every year it seems like, Scioscia said it best in 2018 when Trout was "struggling" out of the gate. Quit worrying about Mike. We have 10-15 shit players on our 25 man roster and people are concerned about one of the top 5 players in the game. Let's worry about the real riff raff.
  15. Zips projects Soto to be the best position player the rest of the year. And 2nd only to Tatis in 2023 and 2024. Id say that’s pretty good… Whatever the nationals offer now they know Soto will get more when he’s a 25 year old FA. So he will be leaving money on the table if he signs any contract before he hits the market. People over exaggerate security anyways, Tatis got hurt and he would still get the same $$ if not more now because teams care about projections and what the player is expected to do. Boras knows this. The nats wouldn’t be interested in an extension if Soto was gonna be a 35yr old free agent rather than a 25yr old one, any “offer” the team makes before free agency is gonna be in the teams favor so it’s better to wait.
  16. https://www.mlb.com/news/max-meyer-to-debut-saturday Max Meyer called up to the show. I wonder how many fans wish we pulled the trigger on this trade. I know I do.
  17. we were pretty good 2014-15 it was a shame we didn't pull it together, we could have been in the Royals' place if a few things went different 2018 was the most disappointing, the hype around our hot start and Ohtani-mania was real and then the wheels fell off
  18. Nevin has Quijada ahead of Loup on the depth chart it seems, I like it
