Cherington would be huge. Red Sux have continued their solid play, long after Epstein left.
Cherington says he wants to build an organization from the ground up. This seems like an opportunity for him to get that wish. They have so little going for them that an organizational rebuild certainly can't hurt.

My understanding was that Angelos had some issue with international acquisitions and that’s why they’re never involved. The Orioles didn’t even put a bid together for Ohtani. One of the few teams that didn’t.
The O's have been out of the international market for some time. For a long time, Angelos had a hard rule of no Cuban players whatsoever. Not sure why. Then they got into trouble with a Korean player. Not sure exactly what. After the Korean thing, they pretty much stepped out of the international market.

The two sons are saying that they will give "full baseball authority" to whomever they hire to run the organization. I've read Cherington and Ng are in the running.

It's really a shame what has happened there. Frankly, I was surprised when they let Duquette go. I thought he had done reasonably well.
And yeah, trading Gausman for pool money and letting it turn to smoke is indicative of an organization in full disarray. If they bring in Colletti, they're likely looking at another 14 year losing streak.
-
I would rather keep Calhoun. Our infield seems set at the moment, so why create a hole in the outfield to create infield depth?

Angels got so much hotter at manager. That's a start

Great news! Now let's move forward.

The Orionids are peaking tonight so the timing for a strategic meteor strike is a little off. With that in consideration, I'll take the Dodgers.

A very talented player in Machado, good (not great) bat. Attitude problem (nothing new here). Most likely overpaid by a bundle, due to his age having value. He is likely to be a frontline player for many years for whoever signs him.
If we sign him to play third, so be it. I'll not complain. It would put us a couple steps closer to being competitive. But I don't see the Angels being interested. Just a hunch.
-
I'm not a Sox fan. In fact, I hope they lose. That said, the right call was made.
-
The Orioles began a rebuild in 1998 which lasted 14 years. After finally becoming competitive again for a few years, they are now in another rebuild.
I wouldn't call that a success.

Yeah, now that the A's choked, this is what I would like to see.

If by Dodgers you mean Rockies, then yes
Although they do have the fewest free agents
Yep, by Dodgers I meant Rockies. I have a swollen head from a very serious spider bite and it seems to have affected my eyesight, haha.
-
So the Dodgers have the most homegrown talent and the least free agent acquisitions.
-
Dodgers and A's, with the A's as champs.
It would truly be awesome to have the A's win it all.

I kinda like Ryu. After coming off the DL he put up solid numbers.

I smell an MVP vote for Valbuena!
And just what, precisely, does Valbuena's MVP smell like?

The roster wouldn't fit Trumbo as it is currently constructed, unless Albert decides to retire. Then, he could play 1B. Cobb and Bundy would work, except it would leave the Orioles scrambling for starting pitching, just like we did, even though we started the season with what we thought was great depth.
Before the deadline, the O's were shopping Cobb, Bundy, and Cashner. Don't know what their plans are for pitching next year, but they don't seem to be concerned.

Yeah and slot Trumbo in at 3B.
I wouldn't try that again, haha. My point is that if we take on salary, the prospect package would be minimal.
-
They basically gave Gausman away to dump extra salary in O'Day. If we take Trumbo or Cobb and salary, maybe we can get Bundy on the cheap?
-
Give me Pujols' money for one year and I'll play catcher naked for the next decade. Unfortunately, he is a problem that is not going away.

Congrats, Dodgers
