  1. I also fall on the Arrested Development side. Short-lived but my favorite sitcom of all-time. I know it's not a huge favorite among this board though.
  2. Yeah for a HR ball or foul ball pop flies, I don't understand bailing and not trying to catch it. The only ones I could possibly forgive are line drives hit into the stands since that's possibly just a split second reaction type of thing, but even then, I think/hope my reaction would be to shield wife/kids and simulataneously cover my head/face
  3. I love Wes Anderson's films to be honest. I could easily see how people wouldn't like him though. My favorite of his is actually Life Aquatic which is probably the least favorite of most people who actually like his films. I'd say his most accessible film for people who aren't a fan of his is Bottle Rocket. I'd probably recommend giving that a shot as far as his films go. It still has some of his quirks but it's easily the least 'Wes Anderson-esque' of his films I love Bill Murray in his movies.
  4. Evil Dead II is my personal favorite of the trilogy, though I love all three. There's not much actual horror in it in my opinion, but instead a lot physical comedy and some slapstick humor. Sam Raimi's direction and camera techniques are awesome and critical to each of the Evil Dead movies. Something I felt was kind of lost in the Spiderman movies outside of in part 2 with Doc Ock which had a pretty big Evil Dead vibe in some of his scenes.
  5. Jurassic Park is actually one my earlier memories of going to the theater when I was a little kid (yes, I'm pretty young). I'm sure there were earlier times I went to the movies but I can't think of any.
  6. I'm kind of just going by a lot of sites and positive buzz coming out for movies out of horror festivals like V/H/S, American Mary, ABCs of Death, Kill List etc... I usually have a few people I follow on websites like Letterboxd and read individual reviews positive and negative. A lot of the positive reviews seem to mostly mention how "brutal" the movie is and most of the people who I actually follow seem to fall on the more mediocre side. I'm still likely to check it out in theaters as I'm curious and hope its good but I wasn't a fan of the trailer at all. I just re-watched all three of the originals so I'm definitely in the mood to go check it out. I also have never been a fan of giving the job to this movie to Fede Alvarez. He got because of his 5 minute short film he made a few years ago called Panic Attack, which had cool effects but I thought was pretty bad overall. Then again, Sam Raimi was only 20 or 21 when he made the first Evil Dead as a new filmmaker, so who knows.
  7. The original had some dark comedic elements but it was played overall as a straight horror movie. Evil Dead 2 is where they went over the top comedic and essentially remade part 1 with that in mind. Both are great.
  8. I trust them probably even less ESPECIALLY coming out of a festival setting. Those sites are very eager to love something and back it after midnight showing at festivals. I've heard and read some very mediocre reviews from horror fans not from those sites not very impressed with the movie. I'm hoping it's good, but I'll be more excited if Evil Dead 4 ever ends up happening.
  9. Never. I couldn't care less about 3D and why go to the theater when I can stay home and watch Jurassic Park on Blu-Ray?
  10. I don't have high hopes for it at all despite the positive reviews. I rewatched the entire Evil Dead trilogy the last two days so I might check it out in theaters of curiosity.
  11. Good job Burnett! Unable to watch the game at work but following on At Bat. Speaking of which, is the app fans of the Reds? Was trying to see Iannetta's HR, but the ONLY four replays available are: "Choo plunked in first Reds AB", "Choo tallies his first Reds hit", "Frazier's nice play" and "Cueto escapes a jam". How about the only HR hit in the game??
  12. The guy who directed Gattaca is doing this, but then again he also directed In Time. Written by Stephanie Meyer. Definitely a pass. Not to mention the previews look horrible regardless. Looks kind of like Twilight crossed with Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
  13. I don't really have a routine or anything. Wife is having some family over, and I figured after spending some time with the kids, I'd let them play with their cousins and relax and watch the Evil Dead trilogy and eat some ham. Sounds like a fun Easter.
  14. I was a fan of Zero Dark Thirty but didn't absolutely love it. Thought it was very solid as a procedural and I actually really enjoyed the climax and felt it was intense. My problems with it was more with Chastain's character. I thought her continuing to write the number of days was pretty brutal.
  15. Congrats Chuck! I got a 5 year old, a 2-year old, and one on the way. Still 13 years away from my oldest turn 18 though. Should be a fun ride.
  16. I thought it was great. Style over substance, but it's style was awesome. Better than I anticipated from it after not being too sure about the previews.
  17. I honestly love both pretty much equally. Shaun of the Dead is a great homage/spoof to horror, and Hot Fuzz perfectly lampoons buddy cop and blockbuster action as well sprinkling a lot of horror and even elements of something like The Wicker Man. Lots of running gags with both and actually thought Hot Fuzz met expectations when I watched in theaters in '07. Scott Pilgrim now was a step down but didn't have the Pegg/Frost duo to help out. Hopefully there's a return to form with The World's End. Adding Martin Freeman and Paddy Considine into the main cast is step in the right direction I think. Though both had small parts in Shaun of the Dead and/or Hot Fuzz.
  18. Never saw the first one which was supposedly terrible. The reviews for this one actually are coming in pretty positive. That said, probably never. I don't have a real strong nostalgia attached to G.I. Joe or anything, probably a little too young.
  19. Off topic, but speaking of Shaun of the Dead, I'm curious what was the consensus on Hot Fuzz. Seems like more of a mixed response than Shaun was, but I found it every bit as good. Excited for the next Edgar Wright/Nick Frost/Simon Pegg team-up this year in The World's End.
  20. The trailer played for this when I saw both Stoker and Spring Breakers...it looks horrible. Plot and acting feels like a Lifetime movie or a straight to DVD film.
  21. Similar for me with Anna Kendrick. She's not traditionally "hot" I'd say, but I find her adorable as hell
  22. More good Keanu Reeves movies: My Own Private Idaho Parenthood But yeah, he is a pretty bad actor. He also helped with a pretty interesting filmmaking documentary from last year called Side By Side which I was surprised to see him conducting the interviews.
  23. Spring Breakers - 8/10 Stylish and visceral. Shouldn't be taken at face value. Satirizes the lifestyle it depicts as well as what seems to be the target audience commercials were aiming at. I can picture this movie having a ton of walkouts on a Friday or Saturday night showing. James Franco's impersonation of rapper Riff Raff was pretty hilarious and awesome in the movie. Not too many people I would really recommend this to, though at the very least, there's a lot of nudity and ass shaking in the movie. Vanessa Hudgens is pretty hot.
  24. I have a HUGE DVD/Blu-Ray collection, but I definitely the minority. I just enjoy collecting them
  25. The Thin Blue Line - 10/10 One of my favorite documentaries of all-time. Love the way it is put together and the repetition of the reenactments. Important film historically as it actually affected the subject of the story. Plays like film noir mystery thriller in a documentary format.
