  1. Probably wouldn't be as bad as the great Shane Figgers
  2. The sad thing is, I've heard this is the most restrained Nicholas Cage has been in a long time. That's unfortunate.
  3. Never. I like Paul Rudd but nothing about this movie looks great.
  4. Have heard that this is a pretty solid 'Die-Hard' movie. That intrigues. Likely DVD if reviews are good.
  5. I think it looks terrible and uninteresting but I've heard good things so far and it's supposed to be one of the best looking animated movies. I believe it's made by the same guy who directed How to Train Your Dragon which was awesome. I'd say never unless reviews continue to be great, and then maybe I'll check it out by other means later on in the year.
  6. Just watched a 1968 movie called The Brain (9/10). I loved it. Hilarious somewhat of a screwball comedy of sorts about two different sets of robbers planning the exact same heist. Mostly in French, but parts in English and Italian. Stars David Niven, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Eli Wallach.
  7. Tree of Life is definitely one of the most divisive movies of the last few years. I agree there's not much like it but I'd say in tone and feel, the closest I can think of is 2001: A Space Odyssey.
  8. Picked up both Willow and Who Framed Roger Rabbit on Blu-Ray and watched them for the first time since I was like 6 in the early 90s. Both fun movies. Also watched: Ministry of Fear - 8.5/10 Not usually considered one of Fritz Lang's best movies, but I liked it a lot. Great '40s spy thriller starring Ray Milland. Stoker - 9/10 Style over substance sure but I loved this movie's style. Beautiful and wonderfully directed. Chan-wook Park's first English language film, and the second of three Korean filmmakers making their American debuts this year. The first was Jee-woon Kim who did The Last Stand which I haven't seen, and later this year Bong Joon-ho is directed Snowpiercer which is probably the one I'm looking forward to most based on what he's done prior.
  9. It was, but he was selective in the sense that he's probably pals with David Gordon Green who also directed Pineapple Express. And Gordon Green outside of his three mainstream comedies is actually an amazing director. Just doesn't seem that noticeable when you watch Your Highness or The Sitter.
  10. Steve Buscemi is awesome but this movie looks terrible. I would love Steve Buscemi to make a strong comeback to movies with something great, same goes for John Turturro. Maybe the Coen brothers should reunite with both of them again as the two leads in a future movie. Would be awesome.
  11. Have been curious about this since I heard reviews out of TIFF back in September be positive. I'm not a big fan of Harmony Korine but he does consistently make interesting movies and this seems like his most accessible movie although still pretty odd sounding. I'll probably try and check it out in theaters if it opens up nearby. Might take a while though. Stoker is finally opening near me and may check that out this weekend.
  12. Rotten Tomatoes, I find to be a pretty bad gauge of how good a movie might be at least when comparing percentage against percentage. It usual favors the films that play it safe and don't take much risks. Since a film that 95% marginally like will have a better rating than a film that 70% LOVE and 30% HATE. I almost find it even more flawed than IMDb's user rating system. Of course to each their own. Though I do agree with Eyes Wide Shut, not a fan either. Though I was like 18 when I last saw it.
  13. Thin Red Line is far from already forgotten. Maybe among the average movie goer goes, then yeah, they probably didn't even bother watching it in the first place. My view aside, it's critically acclaimed and appears on several best of lists. Not to say lists mean all that much I guess, but I believe it was on the most recent Sight & Sound Top 250 Films of all-time. Though I suppose TONS of those films on that list are forgotten as well going by the general public.
  14. Watched a few random movies: Ice Station Zebra - 7/10 Fun 1960s submarine spy film starring Rock Hudson and Ernest Borgnine. Machete Maidens Unleashed - 7/10 Interesting documentary about the exploitation films shot in the Phillipines in the 70s. Interviews with Roger Corman, John Landis, Joe Dante, etc... Didn't really learn much, but was still interesting to see from the guys who did Not Quite Hollywood about the Aussie exploitation films. Switchblade Sisters - 8.5/10 Fun and cheesy 70s exploitation film about teenage high school gangs. The lead actress is grating and mouse-like but still enjoyable.
  15. i don't think reading on him will hurt the movie at all, but there is something to be said going in no nearly nothing about the guy because they do kind of make the movie assuming most people know nothing about him to the point where they kind of make a small little "twist" on something. Nothing major though.
  16. Haha...smart money. Yeah I've seen it. That and The Imposter were my two favorite documentaries I watched from last year. Interesting story, though I've heard some details were left out but don't let that hurt the documentary. The music is great too. Very reminiscent of Dylan, if you dig some Dylan.
  17. Have you seen Shotgun Stories? Nichols first film also starring Michael Shannon. Its great. And yeah Take Shelter was awesome. I had it as my top film of 2011
  18. Thief is awesome. Drive is pretty much combining Thief and Walter Hill's The Driver from the 70s. Both great movies to check out if you liked Drive.
  19. Indeed. The Kinks had a six-album streak (Face to Face to Muswell Hillbillies) in my book that rivals pretty much any other band ever
  20. Love both, but Zeppelin by quite a bit between the two. Not really comparable to either one of them, but still I would probably say as far English bands of the era, I would take the criminally underrated Kinks over both.
  21. Completely disagree with Matthew McConaughey. His crappiness stemmed from picking terrible roles but recently he's actually been smartening up with his roles and has been solid. Killer Joe, Bernie, Magic Mike, and The Paperboy, while not all amazing movies, had a solid performance by him that fit the movie, and those were just from 2012. Lincoln Lawyer wasn't too bad either from the year before. Curious to check out Mud later this year with McConaughey as the lead. Hopefully he pulls it off as it's Jeff Nichols' first movie without Michael Shannon as the lead.
  22. Can't see the list at work, but Phoebe Cates circa 1980s better be in the Top 10
