  1. I have to ask, Mr. Oracle: what is "Dipeutered" supposed to mean? It looks like it should rhyme with "neutered", but that doesn't make sense. Is it supposed to be a play on the word "putrid?" Seems like "DiPutrid" would be the spelling to go with there. I get that you want to insult the guy, but I am absolutely confused when I read whatever that is supposed to be.
  2. I wonder how long it will be until a team that's close to a WC spot decides to sell off all non-essential parts and makes a killing off of all this "contention" that the new system has led to.
  3. It's like I always say: You don't have to like your coworkers, but you CAN'T work with someone who thinks you are an idiot.
  4. Novel idea! And here I was, thinking it was time for them to sit down and shirk their responsibilities.
  5. Funny enough, I see enough good things (Groundball rate, stuff, etc.) where I could see a scenario where his peripherals improve but his results tank.
  6. I've always said that a good defensive catcher really only needs to bring one thing offensively to be a solid MLB regular. Whether it's power, on-base skills, or raw batting average, a solid defensive catcher can get away with only providing one of those things. That's why I think Ward is so interesting -- he has the tools to be better than just a "good" defender, he has some untapped power, and I think he might have pretty good on-base skills too.
  7. I can't believe that you are short changing Stanton like this. He can also get injured at a high rate.
  8. Guys: Remember, the sampling for this study was always going to lead to a very high number. The brains used in this study were from former players who had exhibited symptoms (Suicide, loss of cognitive function, etc.). It would be like doing a study of 10,000 people with a cough and runny nose and then concluding that 95% of Americans had colds. While it's obvious that football isn't a great thing to happen to a brain, numbers like these might end up doing more harm than good. If 99 percent of NFL players really did have CTE, it would be fairly reasonable to conclude that CTE might not be that big of a deal-- there are 70 year-old former players, after all, who are living relatively normal lives. I am assuming that the real numbers are probably something like 45-65%-- and that is certainly a crisis. But cartoonish numbers like this are more about headlines than showing the state of research.
  9. I've always found this argument confusing. It's like saying, "he's one of those parents who stop drinking and beating their kid when child services are around."
  10. Cause Velocity? Little known fact: no batter ever got out until Rube Wadell hit 110 MPH with his fastball in 1905. Before that, teams just batted around until they got tired. #BadHistory
  11. So you are saying he has six months to live?
  12. If you are going by weight, it's like filling TWO rotation spots!
  13. I know it's just Orem, and I know he's old, but damn-- that's pretty impressive for a dude that should be as raw as raw gets. I wasn't expecting much out of him, but I am now thinking that being a 4th OF in the Majors isn't a crazy outcome.
  14. Ha! I completely misread your post. I agree- If Jake became just another OF prospect, then he'd be easier to shake loose. Having said that: Bedrosian WOULD be enough for both (plus some). I am just not sure the Angels are ready to go there.
  15. I agree with Alvarado being an Eppler guy, but do you think that Ramirez and a bullpen arm would be enough for Bauers? It seems a tad light on our side.
  16. I feel like you are talking about two separate things. It is possible for a team to need a workhorse, top-of-the-rotation starter while also having a lot of mid-rotation arms. I think it's possible for the team to have no aces, a solid #2, and 5 guys or so that are (or at least can be) solid #3/#4 starters.
  17. One guy I'd love the Angels to get: Tyler Wade from the Yankees. He's not going to be an all-star level player, but he's major-league ready, California-born, and the Yankees have about 14 middle infielders already.
  18. For Long and Barria, I see them like this: If the Angels get an injury to their staff super early in the season, I think they may look to the trade market. After mid-may, Barria and Long are going to be battling for those starts. It wouldn't surprise me if Long was looked at as a bullpen option next year (as a backup plan, not from the get-go).
  19. Trade Brandon Wood, Santana, and Kendrick in order to get Miguel Cabrera.
  20. I wonder if he might suffer from Jahmai Jones Syndrome-- where, because of his background, people assume he's "raw" long after he's demonstrated that he's anything but. I remember raging when I read a Jones scouting report somewhere, sometime near the end of last season that talked about how raw he was. I think it's just scouts assuming people who used to play other sports are, by definition, raw.
  21. I remember writing an article where I argued that the Angels should just make Grant Green their DH. Good times.
  22. It ain't just Maddux... Bunning, Drysdale, Palmer, Glavine, and even Tommy John had 6 K/9 or lower through their career. If your control, command, and brains are good enough, you can be a damn good pitcher without chalking up whifs.
