  1. Its a great game to play. It manages to be both exciting and cathartic at the same time.
  2. Moving the Rays to Nashville makes so much damn sense. There really aren't any baseball teams in the mid-south; everyone roots for the Braves or the Cardinals. With Nashville getting so many people each day (my brother's house has tripled in value in just three years), they would fill up stadiums no problem.
  3. Ultimately, I'd rather live in a world where people are free to come to mutually beneficial agreements rather than one in which we restrict someone's access to money as a prophylactic against idiocy-- even if my favorite sports teams is the one to commit those acts.
  4. Parker for Gyroko alone would be, as the baseball lingo goes, like a touchdown in the bottom of the ninth for a perfect 300.
  5. I've half wondered if there is a trade there. Cardinals have a few infield options I wouldn't mind having, and they have a few mid-tier starters that would be great for this team. I would take Jerk-oh and Michael Wacha, thank you very much.
  6. I think this offseason is simple: We need to net: * Two Durable #3/#4 Starters * One league-average or better C * One solid-average 2B/3B * One OF/1B Bench Bat that can hit lefties.
  7. Uh, people with PhD's have an incredibly hard time finding jobs these days. Academia is basically frozen at this point, and there are some limited fields where anyone gives a shit what kind of degree you have.
  8. It's an age thing. Anyone under the age of 40 learned to type on a computer screen, and multiple spaces just isn't necessary. There was a study published earlier this year that was presented as saying that double spaces were better; it turns out that the study was flawed and only showed the slightest of benefit for speed and comprehension. Double spaces stick out like a sore thumb to me, personally.
  9. It's kind of funny; an upgrade at 2nd and would be huge, but the upgrade required for each (in terms of production) really isn't that massive. If we could just get to average at both spots, that would be massive. This is why I think we go for the "trade and hope" route for the infield. I expect us to target a solid, dependable option via trade, then hope that Cozart and Fletcher can combine to be something more. The wild card here is a trade. If we can somehow package Cozart or Calhoun while ALSO filling multiple holes, we may be able to kill two birds with one stone-- and have enough left over to upgrade the rotation.
  10. I second the Eovaldi comments-- with the added bit that I think he could become a top-5 closer if he wanted to.
  11. I have to agree. I'd put our needs in this order 1) C- Definitely a huge hole. 2) 2B/3B - Desperately need a solid 3B. Like, I'd take Jedd Gyroko if the Cards would take some salary. Just kidding (*I'm Not Kidding). 3) #1/#2 Pitcher. We have like 6 #3/#4 options when everyone is healthy. A sure-fire, 220 -Inning, Sub-3.30-ERA starter would make this staff look much better than it does now. 4) RF - Only this low because there is some (not high) chance that Calhoun reverts to form. 5) 2B/3B - Again, a non-zero chance that Cozart is OK-to-Decent. Having him for a year playing good defense at 2B may not be the worst plan. 6) 1B - Should be higher, but Pujols is going to be around. 7) A "Closer"-- Really just one, sure-fire relief option. May be able to develop this within, or at least fake it. If anyone needs me, I am going to making some calls to the Cardinals about Jedd Gyroko some players. I wonder if they will throw in Michael Wacha and Marcell Ozuna?
  12. Told to rebuild his barn, DiPoto went off to buy supplies and ended up trading his kids for a busted up Yugo and a vigorous case of herpes. He blamed it all on his wife and moved to the next county over to repeat the process.
  13. Oh dear God. I guess I haven't been paying attention. That's... just... man, what a bunch of twats.
  14. After putting on 45 LBS before my freshman year, I put on 15 lbs each summer until I was 22. And that was while I was an avid runner. Of course, I started putting weight on again when I was 25, but that wasn't the good kind.
  15. Yeesh. That's certainly an awful way to start a career, but 1) Nick Adenhart has nothing to do with it; 2) Kid wasn't even 18 yet, if I recall. If every kid that did something stupid with alcohol before the age of 20 has "very poor character," then you must think a lot of otherwise good people to be pretty crappy. Again, this isn't ideal, but it's a different thing from, say, assaulting a woman (or a dude, for that matter).
  16. Hyperbole aside, I agree. Canning is someone it would take one hell of a deal to get, but it's not like I'd only trade him for a top-10 player.
  17. This is why people are responding negatively. Your thoughts betray a bias towards a certain outcome. All anyone has pointed out is that there are legitimate reasons that this assumed outcome might not be the case -- included past examples, underlying metrics, and possibly positive (though admittedly unknown) variables. Your response at every stop is nought but a tortured repetition of obtuse logic and bullheaded negativity built on defiant (almost admirable) confusion. In other words: you are entitled to your opinion. If you don't like our response, get a better opinion.
  18. Another way to think about it: Start with Trout, Simmons, Upton, Ohtani, Calhoun, and a healthy Cozart in the lineup Count Heany, Skaggs, Barria (and maybe Ohtani) as the starting ingredients for your rotation Assume that you can at least count on 2-3 from Parker/Anderson/Bedrosian/Alvarez/Others to be solid-ish setup guys Consider that we should be able to dip into the farm/Youth (Fletcher, Canning, Ward, Theiss, Lund, Pena. Rengifo, Jones....) to patch up the roster as needed-- either directly or as trade bait Then we need to find 2-3 impact players and another 2-3 league-average contributors to fill roles. Just two good pitchers (including a closer) and a decent 3B or Catcher gets us there. If we can also add another high-end bullpen arm and add another innings eater, then we should be in the thick of things.
  19. If I were drafted after the 20th round, my number one goal would be to leave with as much team swag as possible. Like, I'd never want to buy another pair of athletic shorts, workout shirts, or ball caps again.
  20. Oh, I did... the fact that his response to getting drafted was to go and workout was the cherry on top. The kid clearly wants it bad.
  21. Hell, I would have drafted him just to have him as a future coach. Kid clearly loves the game, has a huge work ethic, and probably taught himself a bunch about pitching the past few years. If he doesn't pan out, I'd pay his way to get a physical therapy degree and let him work with young pitchers. Of course, the chance you'd get a fireball pitcher would be pretty good, too.
