We don't have a need for another #4-#5 type guy and we also can't be happy with it because it puts a smile on Jones' face.

This moves makes sense if what @Chuckster70 is saying can be true that now we can package someone like Heaney to the Rockies.

If there isn't a corresponding move to this then to be completely honest it's the same strategy the Angels have used over the years and it hasn't worked. There's no other way to put it and us Angels fans are lying to ourselves if we think this is really good.

Heaney to the Rockies makes no sense. 1 year left in his contract and the Rockies aren't trying to compete. It would have to be someone like Canning and Detmers

The bottom line is that Eppler left the franchise in a better place than he found it. He inherited a depleted farm system and during his tenure, contributed in two long-lasting ways: signed Trout to an extension and built up the farm. Yes, he wasted some money along the way, but most of it was short-term. He also made the very savvy trade for Simmons. The only gift that keeps on giving (in a negative way) is Upton.

    AO, lol at "nibsian."

He made a number of good moves that made this team better. Picking up Patrick Sandoval, Tommy La Stella, Brian Goodwin, Dylan Bundy, Rendon, and SIGNING OHTANI! He made a lot of little moves that made the organization better and added much needed depth.

He almost pulled off a great trade that would have brought in Ross Stripling and Joe Pederson. I think another couple of years he would have had this team in the playoffs while maintaining a solid pool of prospects.

Honestly it looks like PM will be carrying over a similar approach, and building off what Eppler started.

Why do you say that? I hope Eppler has a good career in front of him. It didn't work out here in Anaheim for whatever reason. I hope the Angels make the right move on the next hire or two.

I say that cause I’m sad to see him go. I thought he was a great GM and just needed a couple more years to turn us into a sustainable playoff contender. I hate to see him do that for another team when I feel like he could have done that in Anaheim

Not really what I was referring to. I didn't know La Stella was a former top prospect. The difference in trading for them was that they were already established major league players. Neither were lighting the world on fire, but they didn't give up much to get them and they had proven they could at least compete.

I'm talking more the Alex Meyer type. Guys who were former top prospects that came up to the MLB and couldn't figure it out. I could be completely wrong obviously. Earlier in Eppler's tenure I would have backed this, but at this point it just seems like a dumb trade. Better to try to extend La Stella, an actual proven commodity, then to hope a guy that can't figure it out at the plate suddenly does.

Brian Goodwin worked out for us as well
