  1. I was always a lurker on the espn boards. One incident I'll always remember is down the stretch of the 2002 season with the Angels, A's, and Mariners fighting it out the Angels board started to malfunction and wouldn't load. The Mariners board was giving us crap for it. Well the natural thing to do was to just take over their board and use it as our own. As Chuck would say "shit on their couch." We must have had 30 posters move over and completely eliminate any Mariner fans from posting. After an hour, you would think it was the Angels board. Red321 created a new name, blue321. Good times

Surprised yk was mlscout82. Could have sworn both were posting at the same time.

  2. I can agree with that. Having said that, I believe what I said still holds true. Islamic terrorists having targeted other countries and populations that don't have a very strong connection with our foreign policy. They love when this stuff happens. It gives them an excuse to lash out to those they feel are too westernized or a threat to their view of Islam. Then there are those that retaliate because of things like this. I can honestly say this situation wasn't done on purpose. I won't be able to say the same for those that want to retaliate against our innocent.

  3. I don't think 9/11 was caused by incidents like this. I know Bin Laden declared war on the U.S. due to the relationship we have with Israel and he was pissed about our troops stationed in Saudi Arabia. I know there were other things too.

Also Vladdy you say in this thread that this shit is the same type of stuff that caused 9/11. Haven't you stated that you're big into the 9/11 conspiracies and the U.S. trained the hijackers? Those two view points don't exactly mesh.

  4. Don't get me wrong, the U.S. comes off looking real bad on this and it helps fuel the fire for their hatred for us. However I'm of the opinion that radical Islamic terrorists love when this shit happens. It gives them the excuse to do whatever they want to whomever they want. Anyone they feel is too westernized. The Bali bombings and more recent, the mall in Africa are good examples of that. Hell, the embassy bombings in '98 killed more Africans than Americans. Our support of Israel is a big contributing factor which shouldn't give them an excuse either.

In the end, the U.S. looks terrible and there will be consequences. Unfortunately, who knows who will ultimately pay the price when retaliation comes.

  5. Gitmo is still open. It was one of Obama's talking points. I'm not saying to close it is like flipping a switch but it's been almost 5 years. Politicians talk without either knowing how difficult it is to keep a promise or never really intend to fulfill it. Republicans and democrats are both guilty of it.

  6. I'm grateful that they're willing to serve, and even more so since I didn't.

That said, there's an interesting point about them protecting our freedoms right now. Afghanistan is not a direct threat to us, nor is the Taliban. I think I'd feel more like my freedoms were being protected if the afghanis/Taliban were at war with us, if that makes sense.

Afghanistan and the Taliban may not be a threat right now but let's not forget that they let terrorist training camps set up shop in their country. Which led to several attacks towards Americans. Many soldiers I work with say they believe the same thing will repeat itself once we leave.

I think Iraq is a better example of our freedoms not being threatened although I do appreciate the military personal who served there.
