The Angels know this guy, they know the injuries. They obviously wanted to move on. They knew he didn’t cost much. Its easy enough 2 starts into the season to imagine they massively fu*cked up. I’m pretty confident that if the Angels believed Matt Shoemaker was going to be a reliable option for them they would have kept him around. Could they have been wrong ? Sure. But I’m not going to put any bets on Shoemaker staying healthy. They didn’t and they know a shit load more about his situation they we do.

Both of these are key points to me. I guess we can argue about how important the Angels are to the city of Anaheim but undoubtedly moving to this proposed Long Beach site would be a nightmare to get to. Also that 17 acre lot just doesn’t seem like enough space. Though this new article makes it sound like it could be more then that.

The idea of a beach front stadium is extremely cool. But, I find it hard to believe this move would be best for the Angels. The fan base is in Orange County and shares Riverside and San Bernardino. In general, I think it doesn’t make sense to move away from your fans. Also, the accessibility thing is a big deal. Where they are now is about as perfect as it gets. The Angels and Anaheim need each other, and I hope they work it out. It sounds like the plan to make “LA Live on steroids” with the Ducks could be awesome.

Stratton is 5 years younger and doesn’t have the same injury baggage. I have plenty of doubts about Stratton but bringing him on doesn’t bother me. I also think it’s incorrect to view this through the lens of swapping Matt Shoemaker for Chris Stratton.

The guy barely pitched for like 2 years. How long are the Angels supposed to hang on ? And the injuries were weird ones. Do we not have enough pitchers on the roster that are highly susceptible to long term injury ? Obviously didn’t make that much money, but there’s only so many guys you can put on the roster. Why should the angels have trusted him to be healthy ? He’s like 33 or will be this year. He doesn’t have the upside of Skaggs and Heaney. I sincerley am glad that he’s having some success. I like Shoe a lot. So I’ll root for him. But I think the Angels did the right thing moving on. The Angels have to get away from these ticking time bomb pitchers. I can only speak for myself. But I’m fuc*king sick of watching the Angels try and depend on guys who aren’t able to stay healthy. I was done with Richards and I was done with Shoemaker and I’m about one more extended injury away from being done with Skaggs and Heaney. I don’t even care who’d replace them. The Angels are never going to win with these guys that fall apart constantly on the roster.

I’m glad for him. Like Richards I’m glad the Angels aren’t dealing with his issues anymore more.

The Angels team OPS+ is 42. It’s fine to make of fun of and be annoyed by that. While at the same time understanding that the team has plenty of time to right the ship.

For sure Angels fans are overreacting at this point. We’re 6 games in and nothing means anything on game 6 of the season. All the same, wtf else is everyone supposed to talk about ? The team hasn’t been able to hit for shit and it sucks. The line up is not good. What is everyone supposed to talk about about ? How we’re all eagerly awaiting Kole Calhoun or Zach Cozart becoming good hitters ? How great Albert Pujols looks ? Quite rightly, no one wants to indulge that bullshit. How about those guys show some life over a reasonable amount of time. And then, it’ll be fair to stop call them dog shit. Anyway it’s a long season. Hopefully guys get going sooner then later.

Even if he went out and got Span. I mean so what ? Goodwin is probably going to give you Span production and at least has some upside above that. Literally 5-6 of the hitters in the line up are terrible on any given night. There’s not really anything they can do outside of replacing multiple guys. Which won’t happen until some of the prospects start coming up. We just have to hope some of these guys play better.

It’s almost like Scoiscia wasn’t the problem. Weird.
