  1. I don't go to a lot of games but moving south would stink as the location is great for me. Hop on the 91, get on the carpool, take the connector to the 5 and get off on Gene Autry. Even in traffic I can get to the parking lot in less than 20 minutes. I also think Anaheim is smart for not giving in to Moreno because as mentioned above, they have Disney in their back pocket.

  3. From what I have read on the topic, not as much. SoCal is ok right now but another year of drought and things will be rough. The scary long-term scenario is that the last 100 or so years have been a wetter than normal time for California which would suck quite a bit.
  4. Southern California has expanded reservoirs by a huge amount since the drought of the 90's. Per-capita use has gone down by quite a bit and there are incentives to replace lawns.
  5. The borrowing that these campaign committees are doing is from banks not from the government. http://www.politico.com/story/2014/09/nrcc-republicans-fundraising-111170.html
  6. This is very common for party committees to borrow money right before the election. It can get paid off pretty easily in non-election years. I also like the sentiment in this thread where there is no money for Americans but we have enough cash to bomb Iraq and Syria.
  7. Hopefully it's nothing serious, if reporters start throwing the name Randy Wolf around, I'm going to be a bit queasy.
  8. I am pretty sure that to join the EU, all current members have to vote yes and Spain has already said they will vote no because of Catalonia wanting to break away.

  10. I'm not a fan of this intervention especially without any real help from Arab countries. But I do dislike the logic that since American can't or decides not to help everybody, that helping anybody is somehow morally bad. I mean if there are 10 people drowning and you can only save one, it's not hypocritical to save one person. There are a lot of trouble spots all over the world, even with our armed forces, it would be impossible to intervene in every single spot that might need it. As for this intervention we are depending on the Iraqi army to actually fight, the Syrian moderates who mostly can't fight to be effective with weapons and a political solution in Iraq so that the Sunnis don't feel as alienated. It's basically trying to thread the needle and I don't think America can do it.
  11. And with that atrocious defense, Sam will likely get a chance to play later on in the season.
  12. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/21/world/middleeast/isis-pressed-for-ransom-before-killing-james-foley.html A very good article about how these groups can fund themselves by kidnapping people.
  13. I have a cousin whose husband died of ALS and she is so happy to see all of this attention paid and the money donated to fight ALS. There has been a ton of videos on my timeline and virtually all mention ALS and mention the organization name or provide a link. I'd rather see this than all of the stupid inspirational quotes and political posts.
  14. And with American troops in the country, we could have bribed the Sunnis to fight IS. Maybe you're right. I'm just tired of American troops being in danger. It's just that IS looks every bit as nasty as advertised.
  15. Obama did try somewhat but Maliki was a pretty firm no on that. I am pretty skeptical that keeping a small force in Iraq would have been able to prevent something like this. The political crisis has to be solved for any chance at defeating those IS assholes. The Sunnis have to also accept that they aren't the majority in the country. At least the Kurds seem like a good partner at least compared to the entire region. Secular, they tolerate religious minorities, don't hate Israel. It also shows how dire the situation is when Iraq and Turkey are both like, sure give the Kurds a whole bunch of guns. I just really don't want the US to be militarily involved in that region any more, get those Yazidis and Christians out of Iraq, help the Kurds hold the line against IS and that's it.
  16. Yes, because you can withdraw that many troops secretly. It's been almost three years since American troops left, do you really think they should have stayed longer?

  18. From what I read, Arizona changed his delivery to put less stress on his arm but he was only throwing high 80's with poor secondary pitches and was awful with the D-Backs. If that's the only way he can stay healthy, that's very bad news and I hope it isn't true.
  19. If so, wouldn't that mean the end of his career? Because he was terrible with Arizona.
  20. IS supposedly has control of the Mosul Dam. That dam is in poor shape and they have used dams as a weapon in Fallujah. Shit just got real.
