Sandoval, Rengifo, and Deveaux would be a bit much IMO, but not horrible if it was ultimately those three. Deveaux is pretty redundant, Rengifo is expendable...Sandoval would sting but you have to give up at least something that usually stings a bit.

If Kluber was the top arm, I’d be more hesitant, but if he’s paired with Price, Ryu, Gray, or Bumgarner, I’d be more okay with that price.

I’m guessing Carrasco is being mentioned as a possible salary dump? It’s a team friendly deal but does span several years if I remember and the Indians have the depth to manage without him, and I guess his health and durability could be a concern long-term.

My first thought was that it was a decent offer, but then I remembered that Kluber is 34 in April. Dude's pretty old to be both durable AND effective.  Hard to say because he was hurt so much last year.

I agree with this 100%. It’s also why I think Eppler should get an extension, or at least this year and next to be really evaluated.

I’m not a fan of this narrative that 2020 is a make or break year or Eppler’s last chance to make this team a major contender - I worry it’ll lead to a knee-jerk trade or two or a bad signing. We’ve been on a great path. The constant injuries have effed up timelines for prospects and muddied expectations on where we should be by now.

My guess is something in between. Eppler does get more payroll to work with - maybe not as much as he could (should?) while also having to make a tough trade, due in part to the pressure to win-now and to work within payroll constraints.

Yep.  I agree.  Eppler should get more time to develop the system.  Knee-jerk reactions end up costing this team for years.

    Wrong.

It matters because he's no different than any other player and expectations are equal when it comes to effort, whether it's Opening Day or a "meaningless" game in September.

My initial thought was, "non-story", but you make a great point about the team's common expectations.  If that is the expectation, which is presumably set in place by the management, then yes, he screwed up.  I guess the question I have is whether or not the manager took time to reinforce the expectation so that it does not happen again.
