Yesterday they said that 4 players tested positive and they played anyways.  If it increased to 12, and if any Philly players got it.  Might as well shut it down for good.  2 weeks quarantine, for half the team either throws the entire season out of whack, or the Marlins will be comprised of 12 minor leaguers playing 8ish games in a 60 game season.  Not that it makes a difference on the Marlins.

Yep. They knew and still allowed the game to go on.

You're misinterpreting me. I'm not telling any race of people how THEY should feel. I'm refusing to accept the idea that because a black person tells me the system is racist, it absolutely must be so and I can't possibly say otherwise because i'm not black. Others like you and @halomatt seem totally on board with that idea.

I didn't mean to suggest that I would follow along blindly (sheeple).  Sorry if my post was unclear.  I would also add that if multiple (as in hundreds of thousands) people tell me that the "system is racist", then I should probably look into that.

  3. I will never, ever know what it's like to be a Black person in America.  I do not know the sting of racism. I never had ancestors that were bought and sold, whipped, raped and malnourished. My ancestors were not granted their freedom from slavery only 150 years ago.

If Black athletes want to use their platform to bring attention to their plight and to get people talking about The Black Experience (like Middleton and Fletcher have done so aptly in this thread), then so be it.  I applaud their efforts to start the conversation.

I haven't walked in their shoes (and I'm guessing most of you have not either).

What I do know is that I can never understand the plight of Blacks in America when I look at their issues through my filters/lenses/perceptions.

It just does not work that way.

So, no end game, no point of return.  Just a vague “someday”.  Great for kids.

Impossible to put a date on it.  Depends on how much society wants to do the work to bring down the rate of infection.

If kids go back to full classrooms and get Covid-19 the local School Board gets ripped to shreds, not Trump. That’s not fair.

There is no possible way we can keep 38 middle school kids in one class 6 feet apart.  These kids lose 2-5 pencils PER DAY.  Masks?  Pffft...

Our hallways are approximately 8 feet wide.  During passing period, in one hallway, there are 380 kids out all at once.

    It will be a disaster.

We like the Bargain Mansions show. They film in Kansas City. She does really nice work.

We also like the guy and his wife that are restoring a resort somewhere in the Bahamas. They had a show a few years ago where he built this insane lake home near Vancouver. Brian and Sara Baumer.

Yep. We watch the Island show.  It's a tough job, having to source materials and get it all on a boat with enough lead time.  (Kinda feel like he's being a little bit of a dick to his wife, though.)

Jesus, I can't believe I am talking about this, but I really like this Bret Waterman and I love the way he restores these houses.  I have seen at least one Corona episode, and 90% of them are in Redlands.

Ever notice that there isn't a TV in the restored houses?  Like almost never?

And the costs are insanely low. $80k to redo the kitchen, the living room, the mudroom, a bathroom - and completely redo the front yard.  GTFO with $80k.

yeah.  I get a bid for a new hallway closet and it's 11k for a 12 foot run.  Hell no!  We just gave more shit to Salvation Army.  Problem solved.

My wife and I hate when Waterman uses "rolled linoleum" in the kitchen.  Like, c'mon Brett.  No one likes linoleum!  Take the wood underneath and spit shine it!

We noticed the lack of TV.  Not normal.  I know (as I'm sure you do) why they don't, but you know that behind those overlapping art pieces, there's a TV mount just waiting for the new big screen.

My wife and I watch Yard Crashers and we both watch and like Restored with Brett Waterman.

I didn't know what any of that was before Corona virus.

Haha.  Yeah.  I love Brett Waterman.  That dude's a trip.  He's done several homes here in Corona, so it's been interesting to see how the homes looked before, immediately after, and now.  (Sometimes the homeowner is the issue.)

    Enjoy Yard Crashers too.

    I'm bored.

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/phillies-coronavirus-outbreak-five-players-three-staff.html

Five players and three staffers at the Phillies’ Spring Training complex in Clearwater, Fla., have tested positive for the coronavirus in recent days, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports reports. None of the cases have required hospitalization to this point, although the rapid manner in which the outbreak spread through camp even without a full roster and staff present, certainly illustrates the risks and complications that could arise even if MLB and the Players Association are actually able to hammer out an agreement. Notably, Salisbury adds that a “significant number of team personnel” are still waiting on results, so further positive tests are possible.

This reminds me of our middle school administrative meeting yesterday about what it looks like to open school in August.  Like baseball, it's gonna be a shit show, and will be shut down again.

I nay did summer classes for my masters late 80s/early 90s. Started up again in late 90s when all my credits were about to disappear. Finished in ‘03. Taking night classes during the school year really blew because of the drive from Sylmar.

Sylmar is a loooong way from Riverside! I liked it here. Small class sizes and the work was manageable.

didnt like the religious mixer requirements though. Had a few arguments about that.

  11. Haha!  Susan totally looks like my mom...except my mom is Hispanic.  Same basic shape and hair.  (And yes...my mom's name is Susan.)

Mom would point at me all the time just like that when I was a kid.

"Keep it up!  Your father's going to be home soon. We'll see..."

Good times getting the belt out!

(I wonder if that's why I don't like loud noises.)

Also six weeks ago 2000 people were dying a day and the curve hadn’t flattened.  So Olney is trying to get clicks which of course works on certain individuals.

    Yep.

Throws a rhetorical question bomb.  Then slowly backs away.

Defund the police doesn't mean we don't want any police. But we do need to make it easier to hold these bad apples accountable and right now the system protects them.

A few days ago a Fontana police officer was arrested because he intoxicated and raped a 16 year old. He is on paid leave because he can't legally be fired.  The system is fucked.

I think the word, "defund" is the problem.  It leads to a an idea that's a non-starter:  No police.

That can't happen, obviously.  Seems to me this is more about putting a community plan together in conjunction with the police department and funding what the community wants to see.  Camden seems to have had some success, but it's more anecdotal evidence (according to the article) and it's a very new way of policing, so there's not a large body of research.

In all, I don't have a problem with having clear, defined expectations for police, as well as reasonable procedures in place to terminate the officers who can't follow the community/departmental expectations.
