  1. In basketball for every 9th foul committed they should pull a random fan from the audience to shoot the free throws so they can feel that NL baseball rush.
  2. Not sure why people are upset. The last angle showed Jimenez didn't get the tag on him until he'd finished tumbling over the base. By the time he finally got it down it looked like Utley's arm was on the bag.
  3. They've hit a couple really hard, but everything to center is just falling out of the sky right now.
  4. It's a shame this Cliff Lee is such an unknown, otherwise they could've gotten a better scouting report.
  5. Center is definitely not the place to hit it tonight. I thought both Howie and Howard's (heh) hits were headed out.
  6. Maybe Trout is really 37 years old.
  7. Is the graphics guy running late to work? Where is the score/speedgun overlay?
  8. From April 23rd (day after he hit his 500th), through May 7th (just before start of Toronto series): .327/.393/.510 So as I was saying... one bad series.
  9. He was batting .302 a week ago. Maybe wait a bit longer than one bad series before sounding the alarms again.
  10. Glad I'm not the only one that kept hearing Nancy Kerrigan in my head every time this got bumped.
  11. His velocity from his last start: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=605228&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA%7CSI%7CFC%7CCU%7CSL%7CCS%7CKN%7CCH%7CFS%7CSB&time=inning&minmax=ci&var=mph&s_type=2&startDate=05/09/2014&endDate=05/09/2014 No bueno.
  12. More specifically, he can't hit high fastballs. I mentioned this in the other long Trout Strikeout thread last week but he has literally never had a base hit on a ball just above the zone in his entire career. And even on high pitches in the zone he is quite mortal (hitting .200ish). He absolutely destroys low pitches, however, and I think pitchers have now realized this and are attacking him accordingly.
  13. We all need both Shoemaker and Santiago to succeed this year, because we have 3 young starters in the rotation who've never thrown 200 innings. All those extra innings need to go somewhere, and hopefully Shoemaker and at some stage of this season, probably at least one more guy, can help make that happen.
  14. Well, Hank started yesterday after Iannetta went 2-4 with a HR, so it kind of goes both ways.
  15. Expectations are everything. Everyone wants Weaver to be a dominant ace every time out and anything less seems like a failure. I think most would agree that C.J. is having a fairly solid start to the season, right? Well, here are the current stats of each: Weaver: 50.1 IP, 3.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 15 BB, 40 SO, .226 BAA Wilson: 47.2 IP, 3.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 16 BB, 46 SO, .225 BAA Obviously C.J. has one less start so assuming it's a good one he'll pass Weaver up by a few IP, but Jered's season has hardly been as rough as one would think by reading this forum.
  16. I know it's easier to assume the worst, but Morin has yet to give up a run and sports the 2nd best WHIP (0.95) on the team next to Kohn. If he's the first one sent back down to accomodate DDLR, that's downright sabotage.
  17. On the bright side, if you take those games + today, we are 8-4 over that stretch. Pujols has also been scuffling a bit at .217/.308/.261 in the past week. So without getting much from our two big guys, we're still winning. If they both get going at the same time and the pitching doesn't fall apart, look out. Plus Hamilton and Calhoun getting closer to returning.
  18. Either statistical analysis isn't your strong suit, or you just tossed out this claim without bothering to look. The Angels and A's have had very similar offensive performance the last couple years (team OPS was just .002 pts different last year), but the A's pitching has been vastly better, to the tune of over half a run of ERA. You don't even have to dig past the most basic of stats to see the reason they've had better records.

    0.98

While I hate using ERA to judge relievers, that's ok, because you can just move the decimal over one and get the number I like better, his BAA: .098
  20. He's on a tear of course, but his slash from the last week is .346/.333/.654. I wanted to find the perfect "just so Aybar" pic/gif to accompany this feat, and while as of yet I've been unsuccessful, I'm posting this one I found in the process because it's awesome. EDIT: this one is pretty good, just wish it was better quality
  21. I posted shortly after we acquired him last year wondering why every team had given up on him so quickly. He kept getting dumped after 100ish PAs by each team, after sort of struggling but not really trainwreck bad numbers. It didn't make sense for a guy with his minor league numbers who plays plus defense, and even though there's almost no way he continues to hit over .300, I'm not sure you can do much better for a 4th OF.
