  1. Since we have the Human IL Machine supposedly as the 3rd baseman, they need to have someone who can play at least 120 games there and play other positions. Moose can do that. Without Ohtani, and with Trout probably being a .800-.850 OPS guy at this point of his career, I don't know how this team is going to score much more than 4 runs a game next season.
  2. It's a start. Now they have to get at least 2 against the Astros. At some point these guys have to start hitting. 4 for 28 tonight. Thank God for Moose!!!
  3. So their guy hitting .205 is able to make a productive out. Out guys with much higher batting averages usually just strikeout swinging for the fences every time they have the opportunity to make a productive out.
  4. I don't know what makes a good manager. I know certain guys have proven they can win pretty much anywhere. For example, we make fun of Dusty Baker because of what he did in Game 6 of the 2002 World Series, and the toothpick. However, Dusty is definitely going into the Hall of Fame as a manager. He got 2158 wins. He's managed 5 different teams working for a multitude of owners and GM's. He's gotten ALL 5 of those teams into the post season.3 Pennant winners and 1 World Championship and he may not be done yet. That includes getting the Reds into the post season 3 out of 6 years and I don't think they have ever been a top 10 payroll. Arte has never hired a GM who had a proven track record of success only inexpensive newbies. He has only hired one manager who had a proven track record or success, but I think Maddon was looking at this job as cashing in before his retirement.
  5. If this team doesn't have a 20 game stretch of at least 16-4, they have not chance. Even if they have a crazy stretch like that, they would still have to go 17-10 in the other games just to get to 90 wins, and 90 might not even be enough the way some of the other teams are playing. They basically have to win every single series from here out starting tomorrow, and get at least a few sweeps mixed in. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Hell no., but not impossible.
  6. Jim Bowden explained the other day why you can get a better return trading a guy during the off-season instead of trading a guy at the trade deadline. The main reason is that it is easier to get Major League talent in return. For example, in the off season a team can trade trade a starting player or two because they have time to find replacements for those guys through free agency or trades. For example, for someone like Ohtani, they could have gotten a good MLB ready hitter and pitcher plus prospects because Ohtani would have been filling those two roles with his new club. At the trade deadline, you're basically only going to get prospects at the low levels of the minor leagues because a contending team doesn't want to trade anyone who they think they may need down the stretch, or in the post-season. As an owner, it's absolutely asinine that the Angels were ever in this position in the first place. A discussion should have been held at the end of last season where a long term extension should have been offered. If nothing could have been worked out, you trade him to the highest bidder outside of the AL West.
  7. I don't watch the games on TV. I only hear the radio broadcasts. It's like a broken record this season to hear Mark Langston say one more time "That was on another 0-2 pitch." It's not Mark's fault. He's just pointing out how totally incompetent these pitchers are.
  8. Leone has actually been pitching really solid for the last 6 weeks. 1.20 ERA in his last 15 innings.
  9. Maicer was one of the best clutch hitters this team ever had. I don't know if I can name another Angel in the 45 years I've been following that I would want up with the game on the line, and the team desperately needing a base hit to tie, or take the lead late in a game. Maybe Carew. Bob Boone was a tremendous catcher. Most of what he did with the pitching staff would never show up in WAR statistics. It was literally like having a manager on the field. Dan Ford got overshadowed because of all the stars on those teams, but he war really solid and put up great stats. I could name dozens, but Boone and Ford hadn't been mentioned yet.
  10. it was one thing being outscored by the Blue Jays and Braves lineups that are filled with all-stars, but getting outscored by the Mariners and the Giants' lineups is downright embarrassing.
  11. I like when people say the new owner could be worse. Well, 28 other teams have made the post season in the last 8 years. So, I don't know how the new owner could be any worse unless they want to move the team out of SoCal.
  12. They did. You can't trade anyone on the 40 man roster now. There's no trying to pass someone through waivers and trading them. They can trade guys like Fletcher and Walsh only. Sorry, they had their chance to build for the future and blew it badly for what was at best a 10% chance of making the post-season. lol
  13. I have a feeling at this point he has a wall calendar in his apartment and he's x'ng off the days one by one with October 1 circled, and written in Japanese is the word "FREEDOM!!!"
  14. The trend continues tonight. 6-15 without RISP .400 1-10 with RISP .100
  15. The Angels are 27th in BA with RISP. Thais is actually batting .264 The main culprits have been Renfroe .170 Rengifo .200 Ward .211 Trout .214
  16. So are most of the people who are usually on this forum. lol
  17. DiPoto has proven he is a competent GM in the current state of the game. The guy that he lost the power struggle to hasn't even been interviewed for another managerial position.
  18. If they somehow miraculously retain Ohtani, then it's a no brainer if he continues to stay healthy and produce. He can cover 3rd for when Rendon misses his 100+ games next year. He can play 1st. He can even play 2nd in an emergency. he hasn't been an everyday player since 2019, so I don't think he's going to get a big offer from anyone. If Ohtani leaves, there's going to be 700 plate appearances at DH that need to be filled whether it's mostly by one guy, or rotating through the veterans to hopefully keep them healthier.
  19. How badly has the offense been choking in the last 10 games? 66-260 without RISP for a .254 batting average 10-80 with RISP for a .125 batting average and a couple of those hits were late in the blowout loss to the Braves.
  20. They blew up the path forward when they thought this team could actually make the playoffs. lol The only way this team is going to make the playoffs any time soon is if Arte sells, and the new owners are able to petition Manfred into moving into the AL Central.
  21. He's carried this team on his back for an entire season. They'd be 20 games under .500 right now without him.
  22. Silseth has proven in these 3 starts he has the ability to get major league hitters out. That's one of the few bright spots in the last week and a half. Hopefully, he can do it consistently next year, unlike Sandoval and Detmers have been unable to this year.
  23. There's just a losing culture on this team. It's been going on for 8 years now. I'd love to have an off the record discussion with someone like Moustakas who has been on a championship team and 4 other teams that have made the post-season about why this team doesn't win ballgames when other teams with less talent on paper do.
  24. The Orioles are going to be good for awhile, but who would want to live in Baltimore. I just hope he doesn't stay in the AL West. As much as I don't want to see him with the Dodgers, that would be better than with the Astros, Mariners, or Rangers. If he doesn't stay here, I hope he goes to the Giants. That keeps him out of the NL West and hurts the Dodgers. The Padres would have to move one of their big 3 to make a run at him I would suppose. Maybe Arizona will want to make a big splash.
