OC Register: Angels held to one hit in 12-0 loss to Rangers
gurn67 replied to AngelsWin.com's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
They were done with their gutless showing at home against the Mariners. This team has almost no ability to rise to the occasion. -
The Angels are now 7-14 in games Detmers started and 7-14 in games Sandoval started. I think most of us thought they were going to be at least as good as they were last year, and I actually thought they would both be better. If they were just average this year, and the team was 21-21 instead of 14-28 in their games, this team is probably a Wild Card team.

If Arte is not going to sell the team, then give Theo Epstein whatever he wants to become President of the Los Angeles Angels. With complete control of the franchise, and absolutely no meddling from the owner. If he wants to do a full rebuild from the ground up fine. This organization sucks, and is going nowhere fast.

Magic # For Elimination Is 10 Losses

Every day I am more and more happy that they wasted the most valuable trade chip in team history, and dealt the best catching prospect they have had in many years to try and boost a truly mediocre team that had at best a 10% chance of making the post season. -
Especially after adding 4 proven veteran bats to the lineup. Moustakas has been better than expected, he's been their most consistent hitter this month. The other 3 have flat out sucked since coming here. Cron, Grichuk, and Escobar were on fire at the plate before they came here and all of them went ice cold.

The Angels pretty much score off of home runs with 0, or 1 out. They can't really put to many sustained rallies together because their hitters absolutely suck at driving in runs with 2 outs this season. I'm only going to compare them to the 3 other good teams in the division. Batters with 23, or more, RBI's with 2 outs this season. Angels - 1 Ohtani with 23 (They only have one other hitter with more than 17 Drury has 21) Astros - 4 (2 more have 22 so that's 6 guys that have more 2 out RBI's than the Angels No.2 guy) Mariners - 4 Rangers - 6 (all 6 have 24, or more. So, 6 guys better at driving in runs with 2 outs than the Angels' top guy)

Ohtani to skip next start due to "arm fatigue"

That's a bummer. I was going to drive up to Arlington Wednesday for my last opportunity to see him pitch in an Angels uniform. The good news is I'll be more rested for Metallica on Friday and Sunday night in Arlington! -
Why a winning record matters (this year)

They'll win a bunch of meaningless games the last week of the season to move down in the draft several picks, but still finish under .500. It's the Angels' way. -
Olson's got 13 home runs and 33 RBI's in the last 26 games. Nobody is even talking about Riley and he's got 12 home runs and 31 RBI's in the last 26 games. Albies has 25 RBI's in the last 26 games. Ocuna and Harris have OPS over 1.000 during that span and Arcia at .963. They are clicking on all cylinders right now. The Braves were so right on Olson. That's what good organizations do. They lose a player like Freeman, and are able to replace him with a younger lower salaried player and get even more production.

Trout hitting off machine today, Canning ready to come back

You keep bringing up Syndergaard. So, the Dodgers' pitching coaches suck because they can't fix 100% of the veteran pitchers they bring in? Let's compare the Dodgers, Astros, Braves and Rays consistency in getting the most out of their players over the last 5 years compared to every other team in baseball. It's not just luck, and with the Astros, it's no longer because they're cheating. They have better organizational scouting, player development and coaching. I hate the Dodgers and the Astros, but I have to give them credit where credit is due. -
How do you replace Ohtani’s production in 2024?
gurn67 replied to BTH's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
They're going to need to leave the DH spot open. They have to try to get something out of Rendon. Anything. If he's the designated hitter, maybe they can get 300 AB's out him, but I doubt it. Most injury prone player I've ever seen. If they want to sign a full-time DH, that usually backfires for the Angels. The Dodgers spent 10 million on Martinez this year and he's driving in a ton of runs. Arte will probably sign him for 3 years at 20 million per year and he'll get hurt in spring training, be on the IL 2/3 of the season and drive in 30 runs at most while batting .225. It's the Angels' way. It will be easier to replace him as a pitcher, but it will cost a fortune in either money or prospects. As a hitter, forget it. You can't replace his bat. -
1. New ownership. Unless that changes, this losing culture that has been with this team for 9 years will continue. 2. See number 1.

The word playoffs shouldn't even be mentioned unless they get to at least 10 games over .500. The odds of even that happening at this point are very slim, but it is a completely useless topic to even talk about otherwise. This team hasn't even shown the capability to play good baseball for a 3 week stretch. They've had 3 good stretches. All 3 were about 2 weeks long. Then, they completely fell of a cliff afterwards. No consistency whatsoever.

I'm surprised Verlander is only 15-11 against the Halos. He's going to be totally amped up tonight though. His first home start back in Houston. That crowd is going to be electric. Detmers needs to go back to pitching like he was in June. Verlander is a first ballot Hall of Famer. I heard an interesting bit of trivia about another first ballot Hall of Famer yesterday. Jim Palmer faced 213 batters in his career with the bases loaded. He never gave up a grand slam.

They will have to have a crazy run like the 2002 team did. That team was 67-48 and then went on a 28-10 run including an 18-2 run However, at 67-48, that team was already on a 94 win pace. This team has had 3 nice little stretches. One in late April-early May when they went 11-6. One in June when they went 11-3. One more in July when they went 10-3. After all of those stretches, they played like complete dogsh*t and lost all of the ground they had gained, and then some. This is not a good team. It has good players, but they're not a good team. It's been this way since 2016. I don't see it changing in 2023. There's not even a point of even mentioning the words post-season until they are at least 10 games under .500. Otherwise, the discussion should be will this be 9 losing seasons in a row.
