  1. I'm not watching the game, but the pitch tracker shows he definitely swung at ball 4.
  2. Almost no plate discipline whatsoever from almost everyone in the lineup. I looked at the 9 Angels that have had the most at bats since the All-Star break. 6 of them almost never try to draw walks and work the count. Strikeouts/Walks Moniak 67/5 Moustakas 36/3 Grichuk 30/8 Drury 32/5 Escobar 27/6 Thaiss 28/9
  3. It's nice to see an Angels' pitcher actually pitch his way out of trouble instead of giving up a bunch of runs. I'd almost forgotten what that was like.
  4. That's the problem. This organization has a losers mentality. It comes from the top on down. I don't see any available manager that is going to have the clout to change that. Bochy was probably the only one, and I have a feeling the only two jobs he would have come out of retirement for were the Astros, or Rangers jobs. Give Theo Epstein a blank contract to become Team President with full authority over baseball operations. I don't trust anyone else that's available to be able to deconstruct and completely rebuild this organization which is obviously what needs to be done at this point.
  5. Honestly, I'm hoping that all of the negative publicity he has received lights a fire under him and he's becomes motivated to prove everyone wrong by winning Comeback Player of the Year next season. As an Angels' fan, I have to hope for the best.
  6. I wonder if they'll even make it to 70 wins at this rate. They'd have to go 6-16.
  7. Pitchers are supposed to bear down and suck it up when the fielders make a mistake. It's the same when the pitchers walk a few guys, the fielders are extra focused to maybe turn a double play to get out of the inning. Angels' pitchers seem to crumble at the first sign of trouble.
  8. It seems like the Angels' pitchers give up an excessive amount of unearned runs after errors have been committed. So, I decided to look it up. Going into today, there are 7 teams that have committed 80, or more, errors. I'm purposely comparing to teams that have made a lot of errors because those are the pitching staffs that have had to deal with the most runners on base that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Total errors / total unearned runs scored: Giants 96/55 Red Sox 94/50 Tigers 89/52 A's 85/49 Pirates 80/57 Marlins 80/45 So, on average, those teams have committed 87 errors and have given up 51 unearned runs. The Angels??? 85 errors and 78 unearned runs!!! Almost 1 for 1 That's including the error, and 3 unearned runs given up tonight. Same amount of errors as the A's, but 29 more unearned runs allowed
  9. It's like a negative Rengifo Effect. When he was sucking during the first half, they were winning games. When he started mashing in the 2nd half, they started losing games.
  10. They are 3-0 in games started by Phillips this season, so there is a chance. lol
  11. According to Sparky Anderson, when he was 62 he was offered the Angels' Manager job by Gene Autry after Lachemann left in 1996. He turned it down though. Sparky was only 62, but he looked 82, so does that count?
  12. It's weird how Arte has had no problem paying other guys tens of millions of dollars to play for other teams, but he doesn't seem to want to pay Fletcher millions of dollars to play elsewhere.
  13. Experienced and successful managers can get quality people to work under them. So can experienced and successful General Managers. Something that Arte obviously doesn't agree with me about. When it comes to hiring General Managers, his philosophy seems to be, the cheaper the better.
  14. Estevez had been solid in 8 of his last 9 appearances. If Adell comes back, he should play every day and Grichuk should only play against LHP. I didn't realize how bad he is defensively.
  15. I remember getting a really great deal on a bunch of Vladdy jerseys at the team store after the 2009 season. They were 80% off. I didn't care he wasn't with the team anymore. I loved Vladdy! I bought 5 of them. lol
  16. All I remember of Rob Wilfong is he got the game tying hit in the bottom of the 9th of Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS, but for some inexplicable reason, did not go to 2nd on the throw home. Schofield came up next, got a base hit to left center field which would have scored Wilfong from 2nd with the game winning RBI, but instead Wilfong went 1st to 3rd and got stranded there.
  17. I was really surprised by this. I expected a much greater disparity. I went back to 2016 since that was the beginning of his injury woes. Angels record with Trout 320-358 (.472) Angels record w/o Trout 152-178 (.461)
  18. The last time before this year that this team played meaningful games in August (forget September, August!) was in 2015 except for the covid year when 30 teams played meaningful games in August.
  19. Both Moustakas and Moniak are platoon players. They would be effective in that role even on a good ballclub. They've been forced to play everyday because of injuries, and guys coming up that were raking at AAA but have been completely unable to hit at the big league level.
  20. I'm starting to seriously wonder if they can even match last year's horrible record at this point. 73 wins seems like a long shot they way they are playing. They'll be 64-74 after tonight. I don't know if this team can even manage to go 9-15. They're really that horrible right now.
  21. I think Moustakas would be an excellent resource to find out what's going on too. He's been on really good teams, and he's been on really bad teams. He can't really do that as an active player though because he'd be seen as a snitch. He needs to find a job in a couple of months.
  22. If they were bringing in Percival and Erstad, that would be my guess.
  23. Unfortunately, this is the Angels. Even their young players can't avoid devastating injuries.
