I wonder if Arte will even get $1,000,000 per RBI from Rendon. When Ohtani leaves, their only choice may be to make him a full time DH. He'll still somehow manage to injure himself at the plate, or on the basepaths, but maybe they can get some return on what is looking like the worst contract in team history at this point. Yes, even worse than Hamilton. He hit more home runs and drove in more runs in two seasons than Rendon has in almost 4 now.

This is a train wreck at this point. I was 100% for trading Ohtani and getting the best possible deal. Now, they will not only get nothing for him, they gave up several of their top prospects for some rent a players. lol I think there's as much of a chance that this team is 10 or more games out of the playoffs on Labor Day as there is that they're 5 or less games. One of the highest payrolls in baseball and they're only 29-25 at home.

After losing the biggest mismatch of the four last night, I'd be extremely surprised and that was even before the 1st inning debacle tonight. lol

I'm pretty sure they've been in the Top 10 in payroll for all of those 7 seasons. To not even have one year where the team has good health and a couple of guys not named Trout, or Ohtani, have careers years to get them to at least .500 is an absolute embarrassment. It's almost inconceivable. This entire organization is a failure and it's starts at the top. Arte and his incredibly stupid moves like signing Hamilton when he could have resigned Torii for 2 more years AND signed a couple of badly needed starting pitchers. Signing Rendon to an albatross of a deal when the team could have purchased several quality players on shorter deals for that $245,000,000 and still had money left over to invest in developing young players. At least there's no shiny object in free agency this off season to sign after Ohtani inevitably leaves. I'm sure he'll find some washed up overpaid veteran like Wells to blow another $100,000,000 on.

I'm hoping that when the decision was made to keep him that Arte got some sort of assurance that he will be allowed to match any offer. That's probably wishful thinking on my part. I think Shohei likes playing here, and I think he wants to win here. It's a big difference if he wins with the Angels versus going up the freeway and winning with a team that was already a championship team before he got there. it's like when Kevin Durant joined the Warriors. Jumping on the band wagon.

Drury: "Hopefully a few more days & I can get back out there"

Considering the insane amount of guys on the IL for the Angels, I'm not surprised at all. -
Ride Rengifo when he is on one of his hot streaks. He'll cool down eventually, but he should be in there as much as possible right now. He can play so many positions, and the Angels either have guys that are banged up, or older, that need at least one day off each week. It's also the hottest weather of the year right now.

It needs to start tomorrow. It's a mismatch on paper. Ohtani needs to pitch like he did in his last game, and this offense needs to start hitting at least .250 with RISP.
-
They can't keep hitting this poorly with RISP. At some point they have to start hitting in the upper .200's as you said to balance out the poor showing so far. These things normally go in cycles. If they don't then it will be just another season of not playing meaningful games in September. They really need to get 3 out of 4 against the Mariners. Almost every team that make the playoffs have a month where they win at least 19 games in a month. They need a prolonged stretch like that.

6 games in to 25 games in a row against teams over .500. 2-4 is not a good way to start at all. 26th now if batting with RISP this season and with RISP and 2 outs. It's killed them this season. Of the guys with a significant number of at bats: Renfroe .173 Rengifo . 200 Ward .211 Trout .214 Ohtani .306 and Drury .303 the only consistent clutch hitters they've had all season. Moniak was too, before falling off a cliff the last week.
