  1. Garbutt took out one of our defensemen I think a couple years ago in that Stars series. Ended his season and I think got a couple game suspension. Cant remember who it was though.
  2. Whats our lineup going to look like next year? Im afraid to even type out a projection.
  3. Heres an idea for you traditional nancies out there. How about keep the human umpires behind the catcher. But with every pitch, they are relayed information by a computer which determines if its a ball or a strike. You still get your human element, the umpires dont screw up the calls, and the home plate ump can still determine other things like check swings. Everybody's happy.
  4. For thos saying no, you're basically saying that the strike zone is subjective. For years umpires have called games with different interpretations of the strike zone. At least be consistent in your reasoning. Those of us that want cpu strike zones just want the calls to be right, and not have umpires bias interfere with the games anymore.
  5. If I was already a billionaire? No. Id rather have a World Series ring. Its also in Arte's best interest to build a winner here. If we can get Trout a ring he would probably stay here for his whole career. Just think of the marketing dollars if that happens. Not to mention, the value of this franchise would skyrocket if we ever won anything.
  6. According to all the reports out there so far Arte isnt interested. He wants to make 50 million dollars this year instead of just 20 million.
  7. We were only ever going to get Cespedes anyways. Theres no way the Angels were going to pay Upton that much money. If by some miracle Cespedes wants to play for the Angels it would be possible to get him. I think Arte would offer 5 yrs 80 million but he would get outbid by another team.
  8. Im on board with the Dbacks plan. Ill sign him at a major discount. 5 years 20 million. You wanna stay in So Cal Howie you gotta sacrifice some $$&, otherwise go play in Minnesota or Milwaukee and freeze your a** off.
  9. Well that would be possible if Simmons played in LA. Unfortunately I dont think he'll be playing in LA anytime soon.
  10. If Cespedes wants a one year deal why not give him one. No draft pick attached.
  11. If you buy on stubhub, dont buy any food drink or merchandise at the stadium, and you dont park in the Angel Stadium lot, are you really supporting Arte?
  12. No im all for giving up prospects for star players. But in this case, we didnt really improve that much. I get that Simmons is an upgrade at SS, but our offense desperately needed to be upgraded more, and instead it likely got worse by trading Aybar. But okay lets go ahead and say Simmons is a huge upgrade at SS, we still traded away our best prospects and potentially the future of our rotation to improve a below average team to maybe just average. If we had made the Simmons trade and then followed up with signing Upton or Cespedes, and also making the Gott for Escobar deal, I would have liked the deal a lot more. If were not going to contend these next couple of years anyway I dont see the point in trading our best prospects. The only way this team comes close to a division is if Cron somehow becomes Cespedes with 30 homers and an .800 OPS, or some unforeseen player in the system comes up and immediately starts contributing at a high level. As of right now the lineup on paper is terrible. The starting rotation is probably above average. Bullpen is questionable. Defense is ok, 3 bad infield defenders (Escobar, Tella, Cron).
  13. I would agree. I often wonder what we could have gotten with that Newcomb package. But still we wont know who got fleeced for a couple years at least. And if I had known we would stand completely pat after getting Simmons, I would have rather just held onto our top prospects. We gave up huge future pieces for a team that doesnt look like it will compete.
  14. I like how everyone pretends to know if it was a good deal or not. If Newcomb is a bust, Braves got fleeced. Newcomb becomes an ace, Angels got fleeced. Its that simple. Anything else is just useless banter. We'll revisit this in about 3 years. Now lock this thread please.
  15. Normally I would say to stay away from Cespedes. But the next couple of years might be our only window to actually do something. Pujols is going to break down, and we have no offensive talent in the system ready to contribute at the MLB level. For the next 2 seasons, Cespedes will probably post .285 BA, .790 OPS, 25-30 home runs, then will probably break down to a .240 hitter with a .730 OPS. We have no other options and this team would really benefit from having a legitimate bat behind Trout.
  16. You guys are bored? What about basketball? How about those LA Lakers! Oh wait. Wel what about the Clippers? Oh wait, they will never win a championship or even come close. Well what about football! Oh wait, thats only on weekends. Ok I guess life is boring.
  17. Sign Gallardo. Trade the Newcomb package with Santiago included for Nolan Arenado. Keep Gott, Aybar, and Murphy. Dont platoon in Left Field, use Murphy as the starter. Opening Day lineup Calhoun Trout Arenado Pujols Cron Murphy Giavatella Perez Aybar Could have been a great offseason.
  18. Trout has a .400+ OBP and Pujols hits .225 with runners on base. Dont see how thats ideal.
  19. Hitting .220 with runners on base is ideal for batting 3rd?
  20. Arte is already a billionaire and set for life. He will turn a profit no matter what in 2016 because of Trout and because we show up to support the team. He should be spending more. #itsnotmymoney
  21. Yet a lot of people still think Calhoun should be hitting in front of Trout. Over the last 3 years Calhoun's OPS with runners on base is .816, to go along with a .299 batting average. With none on, hes hitting .245 with a .725 OPS. This is no small sample size, 823 at bats with nobody on base, compared to 495 at bats with runners on base. Hes also hit 35 solo home runs over the past 3 seasons. The numbers are pretty clear, but we have a manger who refuses to listen to them. With this current lineup, Calhoun should be hitting behind Trout, to maximize Trout's value with his .400+ OBP, and Calhoun's ability to hit with runners on base. Pujols is hitting .225 with runners on base over the last 3 seasons. This might have been one of the things Dipoto suggested to Scioscia before he left, but he refused to move Calhoun down in the order and kept Pujols behind Trout.
  22. This team will go as far as the rotation takes them. If Richards and Heaney can be a solid 1/2, Hector improves to become a solid 3, CJ provides something as a 4 starter, and one of Shoemaker, Weaver, or Skaggs can be a solid 5 starter, we'll contend for the division. If anything goes wrong in the rotation, this could be a last place team. The pen will be decent, the offense will probably suck, the defense will probably be average with 3 horrible infield defenders when Pujols is out. Adding Cespedes or Upton to this would change things dramatically. But until that happens, best hope that we get a couple legitimate aces out of the rotation.
  23. We should be hopping off the defense train by now. With Escobar at 3rd, Cron at 1st, JG at 2nd, our defense will be trash.
  24. Jeter will most likely get 100 %. There isnt a single sports writer out there who would dare forsake him by not voting for him.
  25. That would probably be a very bad idea to trade one of CJ or Hector. We dont have the rotation depth to be trading away starters. Outside of Richards, Heaney, Hector, and CJ, the next batch of starters are Shoemaker, Weaver, Tropeano, and Skaggs. Between those 4 its very likely 1 or even none of them are reliable starters next year. If CJ and Hector can both give 150 quality innings of around a 3.5 ERA, that would give us a chance to win the division. Theres too many questions marks in the rotation to be trading starters.
