  1. I like Gentry as a pich runner late in games. I like Nava as an occasional spot starter against RHP. Now go get Upto or Gordon.
  2. Gordon is not an over pay nor is he a so so bat. Go look at his RISP stats for the last 3 years before making a statement like that. There is absolutely no way he doesnt drive in over 100 batting behind Mike Trout.
  3. Hes put up great numbers at Petco, on a crap Padres team. No reason to believe he wouldnt do it here.
  4. You have to remember Upton has never played on a good team. Hes put up great numbers in extreme pitchers parks. Put him in a lineup batting next to Mike Trout, his numbers shouldnt regress at all.
  5. Gordon's one of the most consistent hitters in baseball with RISP, so I could see his overall batting average being around .300. If hes batting behind Trout, he will get plenty of RBI opportunities. My numbers might be off but im thinking somewhere around 5/110 would be realistic, but then again im not sure how much other teams value him. Hes a lefty bat and for the next 3 years should post a solid OBP of around .350 or better. Seems like the perfect candidate for the Angels to sign. Escobar/Trout/Gordon/Pujols/Calhoun would be a very nice L/R combination.
  6. Gordon hit .321 with RISP last season. I definitely would not mind signing him to a 5 year deal. I think if we put Gordon behind Trout, RHP's will have a very difficult time pitching to both of them. Imagine replacing all of Pujols at bats last season with a .300 batting average. Trout will most likely lead the league in runs scored next season even if he bats 3rd.
  7. Correct me if im wrong but does this mean Matt Cain is now the Giants 5th starter? They are going to be set on pitching next year.
  8. Im all for jumping ship, but lets at least wait til the off season is over. As of right now all of our big targets are still out there.
  9. Hopefully he continues to look for good OBP players and goes after Upton. Its the smart thing to do and I think Upton will be the best value of this free agency.
  10. Pujols will be back opening day. Panic thread is panic. But I will admit our pen is garbage.
  11. Cant be any more laughable than last year. With Gia and Featherboy booting plays left and right. Aybar having a meltdown at the end of the season to cost us a playoff spot with his errors. Freese and his usual antics. Escobar at 2nd and Cowart/Kubitza at 3rd would make the infield defense 100 times better, if thats the route they choose to go.
  12. I would love to get Justin Upton right now. Just imagining what his production could be like hitting around Trout could be pretty amazing. Hes got a career .352 OBP and hes been on crap teams his whole career.
  13. Would you rather see Giavatella or Escobar for a full season?
  14. The Simmons deal will turn out to be better than most people expect. Aybar is already starting to decline and SS would be a huge upgrade that needed to be made later on. I like the fact that Eppler is thinking ahead and got SS taken care of for the next 5 years. Not to mention, Simmons will easily be the best short stop in the AL defensively. If we sign an impact bat for LF, this team is already miles ahead of last year. Im hoping we just let Freese go, put Cowart/Kubitza at 3rd and replace JG with Escobar.
  15. Thats weird, I thought Pujols was a 1B. Escobar will fill in at 2B or 3B, either way its a huge upgrade, worst case scenario we are dealing with either Gia or Cowart next season, neither will cripple this team. Escobar fills a need this team has had for a long time. Relievers can be acquired much easier than an infielder who gets on base. You are overvaluing Gott to insane proportions. We just got an every day player to fill a position that is critical for this team. If were in win now mode, this move needed to be made. Were not going to get anyone good for free so please put down the pipe and stop with the fantasies.
  16. Color me optimistic but I actually think we have improved a lot so far this offseason. Simmons is an upgrade over Aybar. They both post an identical OBP, but Simmons is a way better defensively, and no more mental midget Aybar mistakes. We got an infielder who can post a solid OBP, and doesnt strike out. Now we have the option to plug 2b or 3b or do nothing and roll with Cowart/Gia. If we sign a big bat for LF, we have the best outfield in baseball by far. To go along with a pretty competent infield. Defensively, we should be preventing a lot of runs next season. Id be okay with letting Freese walk, plugging in CowaKubi at 3rd, putting Escobar on 2nd, and watching a great infield defense take away base hits all season.
  17. We actually have an infield now. Talk about over valuing a player. Geez.
  18. As of right now we need Left Fielder Bullpen arm 3rd basemen Unless you think CowaKubi can be an answer at 3rd. If we can fill all these positions, were easily the favorites to win the division next year.
  19. We needed a 2nd basemen, unless you want to see Gia in there for another year. And for once they finally paid attention to OBP. It creates another weakness in the pen, but id wager a bet that its a lot easier to find a quality reliever than an OBP 2B right now.
  20. Sign a really good bullpen arm and this deal makes sense. Smith, Street, FA arm, Morin, would be adequate for the pen. Sign a LF and all of a sudden we upgraded our two biggest weaknesses from last season.
  21. Are we becoming the Lakers now with a dysfunctional org. and a team people dont want to play for.
  22. So those bad contracts did come back to bite us after all. Its not our money, its Arte's. And he didnt spend it wisely. Edit: meant to post this in the waffle thread
