  1. It really would be something if the only member of the Angels roster to end the season with a World Series ring is... Jose Quintana.
  2. I’m only asking because outside of the laughable Scherzer rumor, the Angels haven’t been listed as “in” on ANY major trade piece… nor have I seen anything on Cobb, Iglesisas, or any other Angels trade piece. At this point it seems obvious that the Angels can’t compete with the tier of Wild Card competitors around them, all of whom have worked to improve their teams in recent days. So let’s do SOMETHING to get better for the future, at least?
  3. This is a Bad Takes Hall of Fame contender. Gibson would slot in as our #3 starter and Gallo is a Gold Glove defender with a rocket arm. I'm with Chuck: I'd deal "Marsh +" for this.
  4. I have to admit, I'm in the minority on this one. I voted yes. The reason is because I feel like the Angels really have to go for it these next few years, including this year. With Trout and Ohtani both healthy in August/September, I think we'll have a dangerous team, especially if we can trade for a few good starters to pair with Sandoval, Ohtani, and (I hope) Suarez. I just don't think we can "wait til next year" again because there won't be many next years where we get prime Trout and Ohtani. Hell, I'm not sure I'd put money on likely getting *one* more year of prime two-way Ohtani... I just really fear that he's going to flame out as a two way player, given the physical demands of it. There's an Icarus feel to this season... Let Bachman be Garrett Crochet this fall (or maybe even K-Rod circa 2002).
  5. I don't believe it. Every front office that Minasian has ever worked for has picked a pitcher with their first round pick. That, combined with the Angels' obvious pitching needs, convinces me that whoever we pick will be a pitcher and not a position player.
  6. Sporting News has Vandy's Kumar Rocker falling all the way to the Angels at pick #9. Sign me up. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/mlb-mock-draft-2021-pick-projections/en7lxdwplnga12306pyqr4ohf
  7. ... and a part owner of the franchise to boot! Former Dodger Tony Cingrani is the closer. Kind of an interesting squad, for Indie ball...
  8. Was minding my own business attending a spousal work-mandated Indie League baseball matchup between the Lexington Legends and the Gastonia Honey Hunters, and guess who steps up to the plate? (They define "Legends" a little differently here in Lexington.) Turns out, the key to unlocking his potential was pitting him against sub-single-A-level Atlantic League pitching. Batting .421/.540/.684 over 38 ABs.
  9. Think about the mental toughness needed to overcome not just one but two bullshit balks, a run-scoring wild pitch K, as well as the incredible squeeze this home plate ump is putting on him. Amazing he gave up just two runs there. So impressive.
  10. Today's Angelswin word of the day is: scha·den·freu·de /ˈSHädənˌfroidə/ noun pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.
  11. @Jeff Fletcher not sure if you're crowd-sourcing questions, but there's mine: About a year ago, it was reported that the Angels were aggressively furloughing employees in Baseball Operations, more so than other teams. Have the Angels struggled to staff back up, and as you staff back up are you (Perry) changing the structure of the Angels staffing, particularly in analytics and scouting?
  12. The four-member search committee was announced today to find Tim Mead's successor:
  13. I think it was this play that was the final straw: https://www.mlb.com/video/alex-claudio-in-play-run-s-to-kevin-kiermaier?q=BatterId %3D [595281] Order By Timestamp DESC&cp=MIXED&p=0
  14. @Jeff Fletcher do you think Quintana might hit the IL with a "phantom injury" sometime soon to help him sort out some of his issues on the back fields? I was a fan of the Quintana signing at first, but something is just not right...
  15. Here's a nerdy question: do the Cardinals get a payout on the insurance policy on Fowler's contract, if he's no longer playing for them?

  17. Hasn't even played a full 162 games yet. Talk about high risk, high reward. Preller's got balls, I'll give him that.
  18. I've been thinking recently about Pujols' "personal services contract" which most of you know binds him to the Angels for 10 years at $1M per year after he retires. During that period of time, according to this article, Pujols cannot associate himself in any way with the Cardinals. Have the Angels ever specified what services Pujols will provide? Will he be a roving hitting instructor? Minor league mentor? Motivational speaker at Spring Training? Meet and greets at Angel Stadium? Bullpen catcher (if the Angels are feeling at all spiteful)? It's kind of ironic: he's been so overpaid for so long... but if he is held to this contract and especially if he goes into some kind of coaching role, he actually may be underpaid or at least the contract may be inconvenient for him, particularly if he wants to move back to St. Louis or retire elsewhere. Wouldn't it be the height of irony if he asks the Angels to release him?
  19. This seems pretty team-friendly. A salary of more than $5.5M seems pretty likely in Arb2. It's a minor thing, but doesn't making this a two-year deal create an AAV reduction in 2022? Gives us another million or two in flexibility to come in under the cap...
