  1. There are 18 players in white and blue that deserve a punch right in the mouth from poor Devan Dubnyk after this game for this defensive showing.
  2. No Hemsky tonight. Have fun running circles around that 4th line of Petrell-Smithson-Brown.
  3. "The colors come from the palette of the great Spanish artist Miro -- the four bright colors [red, blue and yellow, plus the grass green of the field]. It sets the tone for 'I'll meet you in the red zone.' You have a way of knowing where you are in the ballpark. Plus, color is what Miami is about. We needed to see something that goes with the spirit of the community." -Jeffrey Loria Over the next 40 years, that tribute to Joan Miro will cost Miami taxpayers 2 billion dollars. Jeffrey Loria deserves to spend eternity surrounded by nothing but finger paintings, crayons, and nothing but "Cathy" comic strips to read.
  4. When I was 4 years old, my uncle brought home a bag full of baseball hats and my cousins, brother and I got to pick one hat out of the bag. I closed my eyes, reached in and pulled out a California Angels hat. My brother picked an Astros hat. Close call. My avatar is my 7th grade class photo from 1994.
  5. Even when I was a kid and mostly liked the good guys, I thought Bobby Heenan was hilarious. This, from the 1992 Royal Rumble is my favorite commentary. Fortunately it's been preserved on wiki quote: (Roddy Piper saves Flair from a Jake Roberts DDT) Bobby: I never thought I'd say this, but thank you, Roddy. It's a kilt. It's not a skirt, it's a kilt. (Not long after, Piper attacks Flair) Bobby: You no-good creep! You skirt-wearing freak! It's not a kilt, it's a skirt! Sadly, in recent years Heenan suffered from throat cancer and has had most of his jaw removed.
  6. After a rough start and getting into a 0-2 hole via two goals by Matt Stajan, the kids have taken over. Hall, Yak and Nuge add on to the previous two by Whitney and Gagner. It's easy to forget that Gagner isn't much older than the kids. Barring a meltdown tonight, this squad is gonna make this run for the 8th seed incredibly exciting.
  7. The Caps have made a trade and requested media presence. The trade hasn't been announced yet.
  8. Michael Leighton and a 3rd round pick going to Columbus.
  9. What a day! Nothing..... nothing..... nothing...... EVERYTHING AT ONCE
  10. Yeah for Cory Conacher and a 4th round pick. Nice job by Bryan Murray.
  11. So I'm reading about Smithson. He was acquired by the Panthers for a sixth round pick originally. He's 34 years old. He has a solid faceoff win rate but his Corsi numbers are awful. Handzus went for a 4th, comparatively. Meanwhile a better center in Anton Lander remains in Oklahoma City. Steve Tambellini, ladies and gentlemen!
  12. Oilers acquire Jerred Smithson from Florida for a 4th round pick.
  13. Mikka Kiprusoff is refusing to waive his no-trade clause so it looks like he won't be dealt today. Toronto was looking for an experienced backup for Reimer.
  14. Interesting. I wonder if they've spoken about an extension already. The rumor was that Clowe wanted a 7-8 year extension, which would be absurd.
  15. This is the biggest player/agent split since Jose Canseco fired his agent and hired Kool Moe Dee back in '88.
  16. Oilers lock up Ladislav Smid with a 4 year 14 million dollar contract. Great deal. Ladi likely would've gotten more on the open market, it's great that he wants to stay in Edmonton. Ok, must win game tonight. Flames management is clearly in tank mode now with the Bouwmeester trade and giving the Leafs permission to talk to Kiprusoff.
  17. Brutal for the Pens. Add all the Iginlas and Morrows you want, this is a huge loss. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=663047
  18. It'll be good to have your perspective since you've played at a high level. Very pleased with how Dubnyk looked last night. It seems that he's locked himself in as the goalie of this team for the coming years. Completely understand the point about the learning curve. What drives me nuts about Lowe and Tambo is their affinity for hired knuckles. We've seen guys like Steve McIntyre, Darcy Hordichuk, Ben Eager the past few years that brought seemingly no actual skill on the ice other than the ability to fight and play three minutes on the 4th line. Nice guys off the ice, and of them were good in the room though from what I've read. I will say that they seem to have done well with the addition of Mike Brown. He's been a pleasant surprise. Two Battles of Alberta followed by games at Vancouver and LA. Big week and if they manage 5-6 points that would be huge.
  19. I never thought I'd see the day they topped the Kiss Cas..... er.... Kiss Kasket. But here we are.
  20. Kevin Bieksa is a dirty S.O.B. I hate the Nucks so damn much.
