  1. Is Paul Bearer the same as the Undertaker? I get them mixed up. Are maybe they teamed up? 'Taker was the wrestler and Paul Bearer was his wingman? Something like this?
  2. I wonder why the unions put so much money into Gruel's campaign?
  3. Watching an episode of Miami Vice right now. It features a scene where Frank Stallone sits at a table with Frankie Valli and Stanley Tucci. Pretty bloody great.
  4. For tv, I've started watching an FX show called 'Legit.' Looks like it's made for about $500 per episode. It has a good flow about it and is prettty brainless entertainment if you're trying to chillax before falling asleep. Still haven't seen The Wire, though I'm told by every other person I should.
  5. F you all with this thread. Now all I'm doing is thinking about great movies that don't get the love they should, ie: Rope, Strangers On a Train (my two fav Hitchcock films) and Ace In the Hole. Another very good Billy Wilder movie is "The Long Weekend" about one man's struggles with booze. It was a fairly taboo subject when the movie was released. Wilder had a brilliant sense of pacing and knew how to tell a story without over-telling the story. Something missing from today's movie making, IMO. Another good movie is Bad Influence which essentially lifts the Strangers On a Train ideal. Rob Lowe is so good as sleazy LA club hopping douche. There's a movie I really like called Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, an English movie starring a young Albert Finney as a factory worker who takes no responsibility in life. He just works, drinks, hits up chicks and repeats. It's very respected in English film circles.
  6. This isn't some sort of scientology gimmick is it?
  7. I can't remember where I fit in line exactly but I think it's my great-great-grandfather who was George Pickett who 'led' Pickett's Charge. I have a cool letter he wrote during the Civil War. Unfortunately, some a-hole distant relative took off years ago to Hawaii with his battle sword. Although he's best known for Civil War history, I like to remember Pickett for being an insurance salesman and for defending the San Juan Islands from the English. He is a big part of why the San Juans are part of the U.S. and not Canada.
  8. If Jose Mota checks out this board then I will feel very bad for a very long time. And will continue to post Jose Mota-isms.
  9. Small chance I'm going with a friend to the new hipster donut place I referred to in a previous thread. I'm actually pumped about it because, well, a donut sounds pretty awesome no matter its pedigree. I'm also thinking about a Costco hot dog today. While they're not as good as they used to be since they started using Kirkland hot dogs, they're still pretty damn good. In short, I'm going to eat like a 1970s tv detective today.
  10. Is that 'Moes' from The Office?
  11. Went to a friend's for dinner: lil' cheeseburgers, chicken breasteses, salad and stuffed potato. Diet went down the toilet. Tonight's dinner will follow tomorrow morning.
  12. Never got in to Knight Rider. Sometimes I'll watch a TJ Hooker episode, however.
  13. I never thought I would get accustomed to seeing the spring training games on tv. I hate that this game isn't on today.
  14. I have definite guilt today over the carb bite. I am turning into a chick. Crock-ette. Mancini, I did watch the WBC after I got home. In fact, I did a manager over ride and put on the WBC over Miami Vice, so yes, it was a pretty tame night. The lady co-owner of the gym I go to said I could lose maybe another five pounds then 'lean it down,' whatever the F that means. She broke my heart by saying this. It made me want to go buy a pint of ice cream and go on a Miami Vice marathon for a few days. There's still time to do this. JEEBUS! I'm watching the WBC right now and they keep showing the f'ing "somebody left the gate open" mountain climbing ad with that annoying chick singing. I thought we put that ad to bed last year. I keep hoping the boyfriend will push the chick off the plateau, but I think she wears the pants and he's afraid to break-up with her.
  15. What's the word on the street for donuts in Tempe? And are there any good Lebanese joints near the ballpark?
  16. Just got back from taking my mom and my new dad to LAX. The airport, not the club. They're going to Tahiti for a bit and I was not invited. My new dad did give me a Ben Franklin, however for taking them to the airport. We also went out to dinner before hand. Had the sea bass, Fed Ex'd in from New Zealand. We went to the Golden Truffle which has a good bistro vibe about it. A real shame it wasn't more crowded. They pour their sodas from the can, by the way with a napkin wrapped around the can as if it were a bottle of champagne. This is my first day in 29 days not going to the gym. Will be going back tomorrow to fight off the sea bass and piece of bread I ate.
  17. I watched most of the Fundraiser-In-Chief's press conference/pr campaign this morning. It was ingenious. In his comments, he stated that althgough the economy is on its way to a healthy recovery (huh?!) the sequestration will have a negative effect on employment and the economy in general in the next several months. Pretty smart to build in that excuse well ahead of time. So, when/if unemployment numbers go up, the Fundraiser-In-Chief can say, "see, I told you this would happen. It's not my fault. Blame Congress...now you'll excuse me as I'm late for my appearance on Letterman. Anyone know if Clooney can do dinner tonight?"
  18. I wouldn't be opposed to a break from the fly-overs. They've become ubiquitous and seem to be over-used lately. However, I would love to see them occur after a year or so. That stealth fighter fly-over in 2002 was insane. I don't think there's been a fly-over to go that low since. It was the only thing that hushed the crowd for a few seconds during the World Series.
  19. I'm all over this. Takes me back to some of the anarchy I got up to back in the day. I've been a sucker for teen flicks since I first saw "Sixteen Candles." Studying how the genre has evolved over the years is one of my past times. DR story time: I turned 21 while in college, up in the bay area. The Grateful Dead were trendy at the time and were playing a gig at Stanford (an annual show). I'm not a fan of the Dead but I was curious about the crowd, so I went with friends. Bill Graham was riding around on a motorcycle, checking out the event he was responsible for. I was one of the few people who recognized him so I went over, introduced myself to him and we cracked a beer. I got hammered but hadn't officially purchased any booze as a 21 year old, so I had some friends take me to a liquor store and video me making my first purchase. I puked right before going in the liquor store, then went in and showed my ID and got some beer.
  20. No matter how Hamilton performs this season with the Angels, it seems that the Rangers will have to overcome something of a psychological hurdle. Hamilton was a huge part of the franchise. I know this is pretty obvious, but his departure shook up that club more than a little. I think they would have resigned him in hindsight.
  21. Jose Mota-isms alert: I'm planning to use this one thread throughout the season instead of starting a bunch of different threads. Consolidation for Jose. So check this thread if you want fresh Jose Mota-isms.
  22. I'm afraid this would be impossible. If there were a porn starring the Piglette (puke, barf, blaaahh), it would be called "Reversal of Boner."
  23. I'm watching the today's game right now. More background noise than anything else, but my ears perk up a bit when Jose talks and there's a pause. This means Jose is cooking up a Jose Mota-ism... "Torii understood the opportunity to (pause) get mistakes later in the count which alot of guys are afraid of; the chance to hit the ball the other way more often; he was outstanding with two arn (not sure if he was saying 'run' or 'on') RBIs because he had that right approach."
