    The two sides aren't individuals but conglomerates that have disparate priorities and imperatives within their members. Add the pressure of the fact that each negotiation sets precedence for subsequent negotiations and you have drama that drags out until both parties suffer more from the delay than by compromise. It is typical for most collective bargaining settings. Some are more comfortable with brinksmanship than others.

    His comments after deciding to forego TJS in favor of solely PRP, about knowing that his elbow will be something he will always have to "work with and manage", doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I see him as someone who wont be counted on to lock down anything more than a 5 or 6 spot, at best, for an entire season, and I'm a Bruin who truly wishes him the best.

    I'd be listening on offers that include Detmers and Bachman, not Marsh/Adell but in general I agree. The theoretical lower/mid rotaion ceiling of Detmers is plausible. Bachman is too early to tell whether he has rotation potential but they'd likely be selling low at this juncture. Marsh and Adell will probably have a higher value at the deadline or next off-season than they do now, particularly Adell. If one of those two have to be traded I'd like to see a smaller discrepancy in cost controlled years than would happen with Castillo's two years. Right now, a trade for a SS and a 6-7 inning reliever is higher priority.

    In addition to Marsh/Adell's cost controlled years, the years of Paris, for two years of Castillo. There has to be some balance between going for the Trout/Ohtani window and mortgaging the future.

    I doubt that he would've signed here after being traded; they felt they needed a closer to at least provide some fan interest in a lost season, and the plan was to burden him with a draft pick to give them an edge in re-signing him and it happened to work out. Had he been traded they would have been pursuing a Graveman or Knebel, which, not bad either, we would have less confidence in. There are a lot of head scratchers with this org but they played this right, and if PM gets an adequate starter (read as able to bump Suarez down), SS and vet BP arm, this team is better than going into last season. Those calling for immediate firing of PM for not trading RI at the deadline, Your Papers Pleaze.

    Holy Smokes, 3 years??!! The ONLY reason I wasn't really interested in Stro was the presumed probability of 5-6 years, his frame not holding up well and cluttering up the Ohtani budget. Arte's internal budget skus.

    Not directed at you but just a comment. Programs can fire coaches at will, as evidenced by SC's tarmac firings of late. Coaches leaving and putting their own interests first is part of the more recent coaching carousel that has CFB has done themselves for years.

    I really hate byes. Somewhat like hockey, baseball is a game of endurance and attrition. I can deal with the other gimmicky stuff but think there are better solutions. Don't like the picking of opponents but can foresee some hilarity when the chosen opponents oust the first chooser.

    Stroman is still a possibility, but, being the last of the top-tier pitchers he can afford to wait until the last possible minute. I'm supposing that he can command 6 years or more. I would hope that the Angels offer a higher AAV for 4-5 years in hopes that his agent thinks he can still get a healthy contract as a 34-35 y.o. That being said I hope Syndergaard and others are lobbying him and that the Angels do what it takes to sign him. I like that he has the confidence in himself that he can be, or become, the #1 for any team and he'll be an anchor at the top of the rotation while their pitching prospects mature, whether Ohtani re-signs or not.

    I lol'd. He has hit several triples but they are probably all on miscategorized errors like this one. Seeing him having a coronary once he makes it to third, and his teammates laughing their asses off is hilarious.
