Agreed, although I liked it even better with just 8 teams.   This is the one sport where the regular season meant something, until now.

Disagree. Regular season matters in all sports it gets you into the playoffs. Once into the playoff its anyone’s game. I would add that I hope they make each playoff series at least a 5 game series, I’d like all series to be 7 games but I think that’s asking way too much of old man MLB.

It's a tough question because the big unknown is always "how much did ownership tie the GM's hands, or, step in to make executive decisions on FA acquisitions?".

I don't know a lot about GM's prior to Stoneman but Buzzie Bavasi's teams made 1st place in the division twice (both went to ALCS), 2nd twice, and 5/6th four times, so a mixed bag that should not be judged on the Ryan situation.  Reagins was the head of player development under Stoneman and had the benefit of Stoneman's prospect hoarding, so at least he had a concept of whole organizational success.  He was also handcuffed by a very active owner with an extremely undiscerning eye for talent (think Vernon Wells signing which was on Arte).

I'd say Jedi was the worst mainly because how he didn't have a good draft philosophy along with a scorched earth farm/player development policy.

    Vernon Wells was not signed.

  3. I’m not that old so I don’t remember the older generation GMs the first one I really remember is Stoneman and he helped the Angels win a title so I’d put him as the best. Reagins sucked but I think it was mostly Mike S at the helm then and we drafted Trout so I can’t be too mad at him plus we went to the playoffs a lot. Dipoto for all his shit he gets actually kind of left us with some players Fletcher Walsh is turning into something and we got to the playoffs once with a crazy awesome record. Eppler to me unfortunately seems like the worst of the bunch. His signings haven’t been great. His trades have been mediocre at best. And this team hasn’t sniffed a playoff spot. He had two hirings as manager and one got fired after one year and the other was basically all Arte. We have the greatest player of our generation and this team is an after thought at the moment. You can crush me but as of right now with the product on the field Eppler is who I chose.

  4. Walsh needs to start every day if not everyday every other with Thaiss playing the opposite. Pujols is not the answer and we need to figure out if either of those two guys are the answer for the future. Plain and simple. I like what we are seeing from Walsh lately. It brings hope that we may have an above average first baseman for the first time in 8 years.

random question? Who drafted Walsh? Thaiss? Ward?

I don’t know the proper score so far, maybe  a -1.1 dWAR is correct. Maybe not. It certainly is correct based on their metrics.

I do know, based on what I’ve seen in watching all 40 games Trout has played CF, is that he is not playing well in the field. He is not playing defensively as well as he has in the past.

In a normal season 40 games is only into mid-May and by the end of September the poor play in Apil/May becomes nothing more than a footnote.

2020 is not normal. It is  Abby-Normal.

We know Adell isn’t fit to be a center fielder but is Marsh supposed to be?

I could make this a rant but I'll just put this here for discussion.  Got an e-mail to renew my season seats.  The ONLY delivery option is through MLB Ballpark app.

I would MUCH rather get hard tickets but they are saying they are doing it this way FOR HEALTH CONCERNS.  I don't believe that for a minute.  They have been trying to get people to go e-delivery for a few years now, now they are using COVID as an excuse.  Maybe it's as simple as saving the cost of printing them, maybe it's so they can flex even more control on the after-market, maybe both, maybe something else.

It does irk me that they would blatantly lie about the reason though, but whatever, corporations gonna cor-por-ate.  I think it's because they just GOTTA get their cut of after-market sales.

Anybody use the Ballpark app?  Can you print tix if you have an old person who doesn't do e-mail or smartphone who wants to buy your tickets from you?  Can you bulk send several dates at once?  Curious how feasible this is going to be before I drop way too much coin on tickets I may not be able to get rid of.

    TIA

I remember when I used to have season tickets. Sending them via email was pretty easy as was selling them. Also could just print them as well if I somehow lost the ticket somewhere. Probably an added hassle for some and an added bonus for others who don't want to have to keep physical copies of things around like me.

  7. I voted D for the simple fact that this team isn't as good as I thought they would be. Do I think he is the reason for the poor year? No not entirely. Do I think he's made some very questionable decisions that probably has cost them some games? Yes absolutely. I agree with Strad I think Mike S is still the best manager this team has had, say what you will about Mike, lasagna etc, but he always always always got more out of this team than the talent level hands down. Whatever the pythag standings had us at it always seemed that this team overachieved. The last couple years he was here the team just wasn't very good, but his management style always played well. I miss Mike and if he wanted to return to coaching, I would welcome him back to the Angels with open arms.

  8. The only thing about this season that I don't like is the amount of games and not being able to go to games. I absolutely love a universal DH and it's long overdue, having two sets of rules for the same game makes zero sense. I love the double header 7 inning games I find that fast and fun. I love adding more playoff teams, I dislike that baseball has less playoff teams than any other major sport. Doesn't make sense. The shortened season to 60 games is too few but it is a spring which I like, I think the sweet spot would be 100 games and of the 8 playoff teams per division each series needs to be at least 7 game series. Overall I love this little season it's a distraction from the 2020 that's going on in the world.
