  1. I guess pitchers can get hurt at any time, it’s a tough gig, but there does seem to be something to needing the proper amount of “ramp up” time.
  2. I don’t think it’s too late by any means right now but signing too far in to the spring could mess with your ability to be prepared for the full season. Not there yet.
  3. Obviously, none of us are privy to exactly what Reagins, Dipoto, Eppler or Perry have laid out. But a decade of really bad baseball seems to provide a few clues. Reagins and DiPoto de-emphasized international signings, which was a terrible mistake. DiPoto signed off on a couple of awful FA’s signings that restricted doing other things. I do think Eppler tried to build from within and retool international development but the Rendon signing seemingly restricted him. Perry clearly has emphasized drafting and development and putting money in international development. Those are pretty easy things to see. I do think Eppler and Perry have had plans that could work, with support. I also think DiPoto was a disaster. But, no, I don’t have the playbook.
  4. Since Stoneman left, the only discernible plan I can make out has been whim signings of shiny toy FA’s, with a lack of commitment to development, at least until recently with Perry. You’re welcome to educate me otherwise.
  5. Hasn't quite finished totally destroying the franchise.....and I've always been pro-Arte, for the most part....
  6. On rare occasions, I think he overplays his hand and waits too long, but that is rare. Years ago, the Angels made a good offer out of the gate on Moustakas (when he was coming off a good run at KC). Boras turned it down, we signed Cozart and Moustakas ended up with a one year $5 million "pillow deal" with KC....I've always thought that, if Boras had the read the market better, and been more willing to move quickly, it obviously would have worked out a whole lot better for Moose and the Angels. But, you are right, he rarely misses.
  7. You would think a lot of teams would be in on him....if he's available.
  8. Can we also ban (if you haven’t already), all Ohtani references in screen names or avatars? I’m not bitter, it’s just time to move on.
  9. How would signing Snell and Martinez make Rengifo and Drury back ups?
  10. He’s right a lot more than’s wrong. But when he’s wrong, he tends to be stubborn about it. Would never admit he maybe should have gotten a guy signed early. He’s good but sometimes waiting doesn’t always get you the best deal…
  11. I think Montgomery is waiting on the Rangers to blink. Same with Bellinger and the Cubs. Snell is a bit of a wild card. He seems to have priced himself out of the market. Unless he gets more reasonable with his number, he may well go well into spring training, or beyond.
  12. I wonder if Bachman isn’t a RP long term. Just can’t stay healthy. Not sure being a RP insulates you from injury but the work load of a starter is tough.
  13. I might move Estevez if the deal is right. He was good enough over the first half that he has value. I wouldn’t move him just because we have a surplus of RP’s.

  15. Nightingale says we are the favorites to sign Snell, Heyman says we do nothing....that is more than a slightly different spin...
  16. I think I'd rather have a 22 year old hard throwing pitcher than a 26 year old guy who is a strike out machine....
  17. It is probably painting with too broad a brush but I saw something recently that teams are just not as willing as they once were to sign "DH only" guys...the Angels, supposedly, would like to keep DH open for Trout and Rendon....I guess there are pros and cons to it but I'd rather sign somebody with positional flexibility....
  18. I think it is important for Thaiss to continue to develop and keep O'Hoppe from wearing down.....a serviceable back up catcher is a big part of a roster....
  19. He doesn't have to be 2022 good to help....just somewhere between 2022 and 2023....which isn't unrealistic....
  20. I am old enough that you started Little League when you were 6 (no Coach Pitch or Tee Ball)…When I was 6, I was so small they used me to pinch hit because my strike zone was nothing. 12 year old pitcher got mad because he couldn’t throw me a strike so he hit me in the head (no batting helmets)…I never got over it…became a basketball guy that day…
  21. If we’re only going to sign one, I’d probably prefer Snell…my first preference would be to sign maybe 3 mid-range guys and pass on Snell and Bellinger both.
