    I must admit I didn't see the replay. I was going by multiple comments on Washington Post and other sites saying the 3rd baseman was off the bag. I should have stated, "according to some reports..." in my post. Thank you for clarifying.

    I've been receiving calls from a number in the 978 area code (Massachusetts) purporting to be from Anthem Blue Cross, asking me to answer some questions about my health. The robocall voice (female) tells me it's required by my health care plan, and they REALLY need to hear from me as soon as possible. These calls are coming in every day. They direct me to call an 855 toll-free number. I am NOT returning these calls. No way.

    Ryan Zimmerman is also out indefinitely after injuring HIS thumb diving back into second on a pickoff attempt. Two Nationals with torn-up thumbs, gone for an extended time.

    Especially when he only has to pitch to one or two batters as a left-handed specialist. One inning at most. The guy became a porcelain china doll when he joined the Angels. You're right, it makes no sense. How could he pitch a simulated game and be just fine, and then he's not even close to returning?? Something's really messed up here.

    The third baseman was running away from the base to field the offline throw. Harper could have gone in standing up. Now the Nationals will lose him for at least two months, and maybe longer.

    Burnett had an "outstanding bullpen" and then came through his simulated game "fine" (Scioscia's quotes), but is "not particularly close" (MLB.com quote) to returning. mid-August, anyone?

    It's going to be 95 by Thursday. Can't wait. My allergies are already acting up.

    Looking at it another way, we played what everyone thought would be a brutal road trip and came out of it 4-5. Not too bad. We just need to settle down and get our game consistent in all of its parts.

    The Dodgers have four bullpen losses and several blown saves. Just saying... It's not just the bullpen. The Angels have had problems with situational hitting, and aside from a couple of blowout wins and the resurgence of Pujols, I haven't seen much consistency in this offense. The close games are hard to win. The injuries are a big factor in that, of course. We're only 3.5 games back. It could be worse.

    So I just checked and saw that Trout has a .977 OPS. Yep, off year looming. Definitely.
