  1. Yeah, that was my initial concern but the YES Network is pretty much NY only and no Knicks. I have Spectrum and they do an amazing job with backstage Lakers etc. Their content is awesome. The Angels could do a much better job and so could the Clippers. I don't know the business side but it feels like an opportunity from the marketing side.
  2. So, I'm not an expert on this topic but there seem to be some on here who have posted with great knowledge of RSN's and sports media. The question: Is there a pathway/outcome to this where Moreno, Ballmer and maybe Samueli partner up to create the west coast version of the YES Network? I see Sinclair has an ownership postion in YES so they could retain some ownership of this spinoff for the Angels and Clippers. How would it work?
  3. Machado hasn't been a full time SS since 2018 but it could work if you keep him at 3B and move Rendon to the right side of the IF. How about this: If Ohtani leaves use the payroll space to sign Machado and Urias.
  4. I'm pleasantly surprised by this. Nice job Arte! I guess the walk rate is the only negative.
  5. I mean, what do you think he's going to say? Of course he's going to support Arte. Why would anyone think any different?
  6. Did you see the differences in the arbitration submissions? All three are reasonable. The Renfroe difference is only $650 K - $11.9 vs. $11.25 Don't think arbitration is playing a role. I think Arte is done regardless.
  7. Not really. They are part of an add on sports package on Spectrum. It includes 9 other sports channels for $6 per month. You only pay the $6 if you want the sports channels. I watch them all so it's a no brainer. I don't budget like this but It's more valuable to me than a $6 Starbucks per month. It's all good. Chill and enjoy.
  8. I concur but I do think there was some good natured sarcasm in documenting his rise to fame...
  9. Yes. My response was to the guy who said if you got rid of the balk no one would miss it. Of course that is not true. If you got rid of the balk everyone would miss it. The game would no longer be baseball. You would have pitchers making a 3/4 to 4/5 delivery and then wheeling to throw guys out as they take their secondary lead. So secondary leads go away. There would be no stepping off before throwing so no observance of lifting the right heel to gage your lead. Runners would stay close to the base. There would be no reason to ever pitch from the stretch. Pitchers would just pitch from the wind up and stop their delivery to hold guys or throw guys out. No one would ever steal home again. These and other obvious things would forever change the game. So yeah, people would miss it. It was a stupid take.
  10. Completely agree with your first paragraph. It's not about pampering. It's about situational baseball being played in the present versus how pitchers were used in the past. Regarding a rule limiting the number of pitchers on the roster, don't we already have this? It's 13 pitchers until September 1 when rosters expand and it is 14. Teams can also carry an additional pitcher if they are deemed a two way player like Ohtani. Are you saying you would like to see that limit decreased to 11 or 12?
  11. Griffin Canning and Jaime Barria could also... Wacha's contract feels like deja vu arbitration. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and the effect these contracts have on the MLB post-arb middle class moving forward.
  12. Can you imagine the game if balks were legal? It would change everything. Think about it.
  13. 13 pitchers not 14. We have another slot because Ohtani is a two way player. And the pampered comment is pretty lame.
  14. I think it's bigger than his well publicized kink, our cancel culture and whether or not he crossed the line. He did IMO. He's a really bad teammate and probably not a good guy. He has no former teammates advocating for him - again, maybe the politics and our cancel culture play a role here but he's strange dude. Probably on the spectrum. And he doesn't give a damn what the public thinks of him. No remorse. So teams don't want to deal with his shit. Maybe a team will say screw it and sign him but they will probably regret it. The fact he hasn't pitched in 20 months, the equivalent of back to back Tommy John surgeries, is not helping his cause. All things considered, I would not be surprised if he is done.
  15. Yes. If/When Ohtani leaves Arte's unfinished business will be complete...
  16. The Padres are loaded and look better than the Dodgers going into ST. They have four shortstops in the IF and another in the OF. Amazing depth.
  17. This is true. Venezuela is deep at 2B, SS and 3B - Altuve, Torres, Suarez, Jimenez and Rojas all ahead of Rengifo.
  18. I think it's a concern for Urshela also. He will most likely be playing 3B for Colombia but will be getting reps at new positions, 1B, 2B and even some SS, with the Angels.
  19. I'm ok with this rule now. I got used to it watching my boys play travel ball. I do like the idea of implementing it in the 11th inning.
