  1. 86 wins. Last year the Mariners were the #6 seed in the AL with 86 wins and the Phillies were the #6 seed in the NL with 87 wins. Does 86 wins get the Angels in the playoffs this year? If not, why?
  2. Rendon didn't need to say this to the media. He could do his thing and quietly move on. I'm concerned he is going to become a distraction. What a terrible signing so far. I hope he starts out hot and stays healthy. And quiet.
  3. 1. Ward 2. Trout 3. Ohtani 4. Renfroe 5. Walsh 6. Drury 7. Urshela 8. O'Hoppe/Stassi 9. Rengifo/Fletcher
  4. I think any conversations Perry may have had about signing Andrus probably ended when the Angels signed Brandon Drury on 12/22 as their 6th infielder. I don't know if there was ever any serious conversations because they were not getting the pre 2018 Andrus. He's been a below league average SS since 2017 and his OPS+ numbers since 2017 are 78, 78, 60, 73, 103. I think the White Sox giving him $3 M to play 2B makes sense. He put up some good numbers last year when the White Sox picked him up after he was released by the A's in mid August.
  5. It would be great if Barria earned the 6th starter/hybrid spot. Sounds like he is less fat and that helps...
  6. Right, I got that but the Angels won't really have a six man rotation. Their plan is to add a spot starter when they don't have a day off. It could even end up being Barria in a hybrid role. They have five starters locked in, barring injury, and four of them are LHP's. **additional motivation for my original post was to support @dhack (could be a hack account) who was making his first post.
  7. Yes, And then I think he would not be on the 40 man roster because he has three option years left. Right? It is essentially a MiLB contract. Fine signing for Perry, little to no downside.
  8. They are starting four LHP's of their five. The sixth starter will be a swingman/hybrid used only when they don't have a scheduled day off. And hypothetically, if all 30 teams had a six man rotation there would be a greater chance that four of them could be LHP's.
  9. December 12, 2022 Garza signed a one-year, non-guaranteed split contract with the Angels on Monday. ANALYSIS Garza spent all of last season in Triple-A Columbus, posting a 4.64 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 42.2 frames. If he's able to make the Angels' big-league club to start 2023, he will most likely serve as a low-leverage option out of the bullpen. It's non-guaranteed. He's just being invited to ST.
  10. It think so. I can't think of another staff that had four LHP's in the opening day starting rotation. I'm sure there are examples out there but it must be pretty rare.
  11. Yeah, plus the Angels already had 6 infielders on MLB contracts. No room for someone like Andrus.
  12. Did he spend time in Kent at Driveline also this Winter? It's been mentioned in posts on multiple threads.
  13. "The Angels have hired Trent Woodward, the private hitting instructor who helped turn around Ward’s career. Woodward will work as a consultant, dropping in on the Angels or their minor-league affiliates from time to time throughout the season." This feels like a great hire and maybe a sign ownership is more committed to system wide development. @Jeff Fletcher is this a newly created position or is Woodward replacing the role of a hitting consultant from last year?
  14. I've always been a fan of how hard Adell works and have used him as an example to my Son who is now playing in HS. The story of what he did this Winter is impressive. I hope he can do a 180 and find success on the field.
  15. Want to circle back on this because it's interesting to think about the ripple effect. So if MLB goes from 13 pitchers to 11 pitchers teams would still have 5 starters and a 6 man bull pen. That should still be sufficient for the bull pen to get through games. You would see more starters going 6 or 7 innings. I like it. Do you think the MLBPA would go for it? There would be 60 fewer MLB pitchers and a higher risk of injury, at least initially. Those spots would go to another super utility guy, a third catcher or a full time DH. It would result in more offense.
  16. So, done for now. Don't think they go over the CBT threshold and I imagine they want to save some room for a pick up at the trade deadline on their way to the playoffs.

  18. This is great news! If he can do for others what he did for Ward it will pay dividends.
  19. Great point. I wouldn't have cable if it were not for live sports. I think you will continue to see more live sports streaming and it will be the eventual death of cable. So does the future mean you will be able to pick up regional coverage through Amazon?
