  1. Yes. this is how I feel with one exception. We need to upgrade at 1B. Walsh is not the answer and 1B is a premium offensive position. So O'Hoppe and Soto could be in the opening day lineup. I like what I have seen from both of them. Fletcher and Rengifo are other low cost middle infield additions to the 2023 roster and can be part of the opening day lineup. Adell will still only be 23 on opening day. The Angels will not give up on him in 2023. I think he will evolve but let's have a backup plan. Use the remaining budget on pitching and to upgrade 1B. I like the idea of signing Trey Mancini. He is a great fit. He is better than Walsh at 1B and better than Adell in LF.
  2. Ok, what is your plan to upgrade the offense for next year? @Stradling @Docwaukee @jsnpritchett
  3. 1B is really the only field position there is to upgrade the offense. Adell is just 23, too young to give up on. SS/2B will be fine with Rengifo/Soto/Fletcher. Walsh is terrible. Look at his numbers versus RHP's this year. He'll be 30 next year. We know what he is. Spending a little at 1B would be the best way to upgrade the offense and would show that they are letting Perry try to win. Josh Bell or Trey Mancini is the way to go.
  4. And Eppler drafted Matt Thaiss instead of Will Smith in 2016. Both ACC catchers. It"s easy to build a narrative when you look backwards...
  5. Josh Bell and Taijuan Walker. They have to upgrade at 1B and Walker would be a perfect addition to the rotation.
  6. At what point did you realize the season was over? Tomorrow...
  7. Sure, I believe that is the way it works, but you keep it shut down unless you can play 3 of the last 8 allowing you to play on opening day in 2023... And you say all the right things to the beat writers.
  8. Do you guys know how many teams have scored fewer runs than the Angels this season? I had a thought but it was backed up when I chose to look it up. Still don't know? Look it up. The Bullpen was not our undoing, the offense was. It's silly to think differently! Respect to the originator because I agree with him almost always, but this time the narrative of his thread is obviously flawed.
  9. If you look at the attached WAA by position the Angels Relief Pitching wasn't great at 15 overall but they are 30th at Catcher, 29th at First Base, 29th at Third Base and and 28th at Left Field. It's those four positions that really explain the Angels lack of success this season. Not relief pitcher. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2022.shtml
  10. Agree, this really is a factor. A better offense could make the playoffs with this bullpen.
  11. I would be disappointed with Minasian if Walsh is in the mix next year. Time to upgrade.
  12. My concern with Walsh as a platoon player moving forward is that he really struggled against RHP's this year - .660 OPS. Last year he crushed them - .994 OPS. I am hoping they find a way to upgrade at 1B. It needs to be a plus position.
  13. This is a bad narrative. You know there are so many more variables involved in a final season win total than the few you mention here.
  14. Yep, Sandoval...and Ohtani and Detmers and Rengifo.
  15. Seriously? These are the idiots running the Angels. It's "unfair" to put a player in the lineup of a MLB game who can only look at pitches or bunt? Are we playing Little League baseball with our #12 player? No shit it's "unfair" Einstein. Come on Nevin... Pretend like you have a clue.
  16. Dude makes $238,000 per game. These 2022 games are meaningless. Burn your suspension now, in 2022. He shuts it down if there is no suspension. Let Rendon be in the opening day 2023 lineup. Right? It's the only answer.
  17. I would take Beane or Epstein "meddling" any day over the Arte Moreno and Jerry Jones brand of "meddling". Bring it on!!
  18. He will still only be 23 on opening day. Can't give up on him yet.
  19. Walsh is the hole in the lineup. Period. He sucks against RHP's (660 OPS) and LHP's (591 OPS). Last year he destroyed RHP's (994 OPS). He has played himself out of the league. Move on. He has an option left so put him in SLC, if he is able to play, and hope he can figure it out.
  20. Great interview. You had him at ease and sharing. Do you know if he played other sports from middle school through high school or was he year round travel ball?
  21. Yep. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/team_compare.cgi Highlight the Angels as a team and scroll down. Keep scrolling down. Almost there. There! This is very telling... Now highlight the Dodgers as a team. Throw up. Rinse. Repeat.
