We were a below .500 team last year. How did we over-achieve?

Seeing as how they may not find MLB deals soon, I wouldn't be against offering minor-league deal/ST invites to Norris, Chavez, Revere, or Maybin.

Being below or above .500 has nothing to do with the idea of over or under achieving.

We were leading for the second wild card spot until Trout went into a rare Sept. Slump.

That team had no business being in the wild card race!  None!

    This.

How do you feel about the Raiders moving in? Do you think they will develop a local fanbase since Vegas seems to be mostly transplants?

Being a Raiders fan, I'm crossing my fingers that all goes well. I won't get my hopes up until it's official. I believe it shouldn't be too difficult to get Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Orange County Raiders fan bases to buy season tickets or even packages. A decent portion (1/4) of the Oakland fan base will still continue to be loyal season ticket holders. The Raider Nation is known to travel well, I don't see any reason for Las Vegas to be any different as they'll also be home games. At the very least (worst case scenario for Raiders Org) the stadium will sell out with opposing teams fan bases making it a weekend vacation. The local fan base hasn't really been polled or measured officially yet, but I do see a lot of Raiders decals on local vehicles. There may be a bigger contingent of Raiders fans in Vegas than most outside media suggests.

  3. VHF and mrwicked summed up the great parts of Las Vegas pretty well. To have a great experience you have to know yourself and find the places that give you energy. If you truly care about your time it's best to do your research. The strip in general is an obvious facade, but there is substance in entertainment variety, quality restaurant choices, and gambling options. The horror stories or personal bad experiences should be treated like incidents in a vacuum; a bias of small sample size . If you only hangout at the Excalibur/CircusCircus/Stratosphere for example you are going to experience a different Vegas than say the Mirage/TI/Venetian/Caesars. You will have the weekend warriors who come in and treat Las Vegas like their own personal shit show and I think that can be misleading to those who treat it a bit more responsibly. With my limited experience of 5 years, I run into a lot more of the no judgement, relaxed, do-your-own-thing kind of people. Perhaps that's more of a cognitive bias/perception because I choose to hangout at places that invite that mindset. As a poker dealer/player I spend a lot of time on the strip and it's consistently pleasant. Las Vegas is very affordable living and like most cities there are some bad areas and some beautiful areas. Red Rock Canyon is a great place to hike and unwind. Off the strip establishments (ie Frankies) are charming and welcoming. The 24 hour aspect and no last-call spoil me. I love Las Vegas and I plan on living here until my last breath. Is Vegas a dump? No.

  4. I don't see a direction... enough so to actually make a post. I love the Angels enough to watch them no matter their chances. I remember being excited about the probability of being a .500 team. It's unfortunate that we have a ways to go in order to become a "respectable" organization again. I personally think Dipoto had too small of a sample size to actually judge him as a GM. Arte is a great business man but he doesn't know legitimate numbers for long term success when it comes to sports teams. Especially a game like baseball which relies so much on long term numbers and larger sample sizes and investment in player personnel. American Football is so far behind Baseball because every season is so varianced via the 16 game seasons that the general understanding of sports is scewed. Its unfortunate. The Angels aren't going to be great (mathematically) for a couple more years. I love the simmons trade, the Trout prime years are going to take a hit, We can all blame Hamilton, or Arte. sure, but the only thing we can hope for is improvement. It's not going to happen this year... or next year. Our minor league system is too weak overall. Long post short, Arte is the problem. We need the trickle down affect to start strong from the top. It hasn't happened. Stop stressing out, your lives will be better for it. Love the Angels, hope for the best, and stop pulling your hair out. Become an alcoholic, it works for me.

Drunk rant over. I'll edit it when I feel like it.
