  1. Best of luck to him, hoping that he gets through the rehab as strong as ever. Yes, it would be quite a quick recovery if it stays on track.
  2. So sorry to hear this, Lou's a great guy. We have had serious bouts with cancer in our family as well, always a tough road and very stressful. I pray that he finds peace as he moves on from this earth.
  3. Welcome to the world of going for it. When you have the 29th best farm system before you start this process, it’s somewhat amazing to me you could pickup anyone helpful given what you have to give up. The standout was Quero, but Giolito is a good gamble especially if you can sign him in the off-season. None of the rest give me any hope that they will amount to much, especially Jackson. In summary, I like going for it. My biggest concern now is the strength of schedule in August compared to our competition. It’s going to be like driving through hell.
  4. Leone has 33 K's in 30.2 innings pitched this year. WHIP is 1.239. He's experienced, lifetime ERA 3.75. Not exciting but provides depth, that's more than Jackson provides.
  5. Come on, Jeremiah Jackson is worthless to us. I wanted him traded to the Rockies for Daniel Bard.
  6. We only have about 18 hours left, has anyone heard of any rumors of us chasing any particular relief pitcher.
  7. What am I missing here? We had the 29th ranked farm system in the majors before these deadline trades were made. So those of you worrying about decimating it, well was already a mess. There is no way the farm can help in light of the significant injury to Ward, or to bridge the gap in any other way this year. Perry and Arte are going for the best they can squeeze out of major league talent this year. You have to make a move like the Grichuk/Cron deal because there is no way to get help internally, the near term ugly schedule will destroy you for sure otherwise. I hope they get another reliever before this is done.
  8. How do you know who will extend or not extend? No one is talking contracts and 2024 this time of the year who are on contending teams. If all these players focused on 2024 and beyond now then the performance will tank entirely. If they can't contend they should be performing at their personal best so they can be considered for spots in 2024. As long as Arte owns this team, he will never tear down a team and rebuild over a number of years. With his actions and words he has always said he will try to improve the team every year, and get into contention every year. Large market teams have the ability of taking that approach, but that doesn't mean they will contend every year. It's probably been a poor strategy for the Angels because the money was mis-spent on too many busted players, and too little was spent on organizational development including drafting, scouting and young player development.
  9. I agree. These were two pretty unusual games. First you pull in a starting pitcher who has hardly had a chance to meet his teammates, the offense gets stung by losing Neto (both games), and the bats threaten but try do do too much with players in scoring position. The second day you are leading the game, and one of your best offensive performers in July gets ripped with a wild pitch which deflates the team, and we could lose him for the rest of the season. No suitable outfield replacements are on hand. You are also without your regular manager on the field the second day. Plus this might be the worst home plate umpiring job of the season, which impacted both teams. Please Manfred, can we have an automated strike zone machine next year, the cursing over balls and strikes is ridiculous, but justified by the poor performance of the umpires!
  10. That's the top tier, but there are 11 more who are in the supporting cast who are out, plus some active players are nursing injuries like Neto, now Ward (could be out for the rest of the year, don't know yet), Renfroe was nursing some playable injuries, Ohtani's cramping, etc..
  11. I'm sorry, but I don't look at the season this way. It's two games, there are four more on this roadtrip, and there are two more months to this season. Nothing is decided yet, I think they will win some and they will certainly lose more, just how many is completely unknown at this point. Evaluating the first two thirds of the season they have been pretty inconsistent. In some ways they are stronger now, but the injuries are eating them alive. The margin for error is getting smaller mostly due to that point, and the schedule is brutal in August especially.
  12. If you think that Arte Moreno wouldn't get involved then you dead wrong. They were just talking about the trades being made near the deadline on the MLB channel in general. They said if you think a GM can make these trades just sitting in his office and deciding you are wrong. In today's game trades have to be discussed throughout the organization, and sold to upper management before they can be done. It used to be a GM could do it alone, not anymore.
  13. Exactly, I also remember that injury. Eye injuries can be career changing.
  14. Yep, five more games to go on this tough road trip, still plenty of opportunities ahead. No way these three series were going to be a 9-0 roadtrip. Progress would be 6-3.
  15. Answering my own question, my software was not updated even though I had Auto Update on. So, if anyone has a problem, check to be sure your Apple TV software is up to date. Works fine now.
  16. What the hell is going on with Apple TV, looks like they are playing the Braves vs. Brewers at 4:20. I can't find the Toronto/Angels game???
  17. I think you are right, when we have to replace Neto in the lineup with Velasquez, the offense and defense gets hurt.
  18. The White Sox are stockpiling catchers. They just sent Kendall Graven to Houston for catcher Korey Lee. And they sent Lance Lynn and Joe Kelley to the Dodgers for three prospects (no catcher though). They are becoming a lot like Oakland.
  19. That's really gotta hurt Texas. Houston is on the verge of overtaking them. If they implode, we might be able to catch them as well.
