  1. Slight disagree on the homers. His exit velo the last month was elite. Post swing fix. I know that doesn’t mean what you’re saying is untrue but I think recapturing what he had that last month will not cause the deadened ball to nullify him that badly. And I think Marsh may not come up this year. He’s going to be great but has barely played in AA. He needs some more time. Plus...$$$. Upton is practically untradeable. They will utilize him as much as they can this year to avoid completely wasting him and Pujols this year. Agree completely on the defensive sub in the 8th-9th when protecting a lead.
  2. Been here 5 minutes and even know this site only has doctors, professional scouts, and aspiring GMs.
  3. More than any other year, the initial assignments this year will be very interesting. I’m can’t remember anticipating them more than this. For instance I really want to see where the following guys end up (and I don’t think it’s a given): Detmers, Rodriguez, Kochanowicz, Paris, Adams, Holmes, Knowles, Vera, Seminaris, E Rivera. A year without minors is making me excited to see how these guys have progressed and how close some of them are.
  4. All that makes sense. My point is if they’re considering Odorizzi there is a plan to slot him in. Maybe they go 7 man for the time being. But of the 6 they have currently I can’t see anyone but Cobb going to the pen.
  5. Why do they have to choose? Cobb moves To the pen with Barria. They’ll get rid of Buttrey or Claudio before Barria. And you take Odorizzi over those two.
  6. 2 International signings announced today. Aren’t these normally a year or two in the works? Or did Parker come in and immediately grab some leftover talent? Either way nice to know they’re active in the market.
  7. This one feels a little more likely at least than the others. A more natural fit, and some background noise to confirm. And I don’t think the Angels would hesitate for a second to move Cobb to that Andriese role.
  8. I believe it was Fletcher who said a guy like Fowler gives Adell a bar to clear. And by making that bar relatively low, you give Adell something realistic to shoot for. You are basically telling Adell he won't come up until he's better than Fowler. And on the plus side, Fowler is a perfect guy to mentor Adell. By this logic, signing a guy like Joc or Rosario wouldn't accomplish that.
  9. It doesn't make sense for him to wait. His value dropped last year between being hurt and the shortened season. He's probably hoping for a high 1-year offer to reestablish his value for 2022, but I think the teams that would do that are moving on.
  10. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't realize Odorizzi played for Maddon in 2014. Him and Cobb were the middle of that rotation. Therefore, Odorizzi is allowed to sign with the Angels.
  11. So I didn't realize this but Rivera has been a starter in the minors. He keeps getting mentioned as a reliever, but he has been starting. He walks a lot and threw kind of a crazy amount of wild pitches, but 102 is nothing to turn your nose up to. I think he's best served focusing on relieving and trying to gain a little bit more control in 1-2 inning bursts.
  12. As a coach I think this kind of stuff is both overrated and underrated. When you have talent, winning covers a multitude of sins and spite. But a strong clubhouse can make everyone on their best game. I am not, not, not going to pretend I think this pitching staff is capable of taking us deep into the playoffs. But there are some things I am seeing that are valuable, and guys like Cobb, Fowler, and Suzuki may be here simply to set the culture for the other guys to follow. I think if anyone knows what it takes to have a successful clubhouse, it's Maddon.
  13. Hello All, I've been a fan since I was just a wee lad. My mom got me hooked because her dad took her to games. Dad is a Dodgers fan, but didn't care enough to convert his only son. My parents took us to Angels games when we were little because they were cheaper and Dodger Stadium was dangerous. The Angels lost the first 19 games I attended as a kid until finally in 1997 they beat the Brewers. I used to read the USA Today (pre-Boob) on family vacations and get pissed because the Angels scores weren't in there. I used to think, "Seriously? These guys can't stay up just a little later?" I remember crossing my fingers on the :15 and :45 minute updates on the radio hoping the Angels had finally solved their Geronimo Berroa problem. I lived in the midwest for awhile, and I'll never forget watching them hit 5 straight singles off Wells in '02 to win the ALDS. That year was incredible (my mom got to fly back for Game 6). Since then, I've moved back and enjoy going to 8-10 games a year. It's one of my favorite places to be. When I read on Twitter that Mike Trout was making his debut, I called in sick bought a single ticket and went and watched. I was at Ohtani's home pitching debut (sigh) when the whole stadium (even Dodger dad) went crazy with every K. Joined recently because I needed to know other fans were as disappointed as I was. And I have not been let down! Looking forward to arguing pointlessly and sharing some excitement here. Cheers.
  14. I saw Jomboy insinuating that Odorizzi was hoping for a different team to offer because the Angels don’t have a pitching coach.
  15. Maddon has said multiple times over the last month he wants a 6-man rotation. The shortened year means their bodies aren’t prepared for a huge workload. Could be “content” but he’s been saying it.
  16. When did people start treating their chats like some great insight into what teams should do?
  17. That Tatis guy is such a loser, if he really wanted to win he would have demanded a trade to the Dodgers. Losing mindset.
  18. I think he detests the thought of emulating the Dodgers model of success. He's not going to pour resources into player development, because to do so is to admit that that Dodgers have done it right and he has done it wrong. Good owners don't care about stupid stuff like that, but Arte can't even wait a week on a trade with the Dodgers without taking it personally.
  19. Yeah, people see high payroll and his "involvement" in decision making and think he's one of the good owners.
  20. This is a pretty damning indictment of Upton in the OF. -Maddon says his problems weren't physical. -We acquired guys like Lagares and Jay to replace him in late innings. -He needs to go back to Outfield 101
  21. Yeah, I am not going to defend Arte in any way. Not what I'm getting at. The point is I'm not necessarily concerned at this moment by an anemic scouting department. Perry started a few months ago, so I'd like to see what type of system he builds. Eppler didn't bring in the kind of FO talent he did, so I imagine it took some money to get these guys to come and give them new titles. Perry should know how to build a scouting and development system (from observation not experience), as should the guys that spent time with the Dodgers/Jays/Brewers/Braves/Royals. I'm just choosing not to get upset by this until come mid-year we haven't replenished the scouts and cross-checkers.
  22. I'd be more interested to hear how this compares to other teams. Does every other team have scouts in the stands at these college games? Going further, how does this compare to other teams that have hired a new GM this year? I mean NCAA games started within the last week, and HS seasons haven't even started yet. So if the Angels were having pro scouts scout NCAA games for the first week of games, is this really a big deal? If this lasts all year, it's a serious issue. If they're bringing them back in March? Or once Minasian can solidify his scouting department? Eh. They have until July 11-13 to analyze and scout guys. People ripped their cuts last year and they ended up with 3 good picks and 1 safe one.
