But you're doing exactly what I'm concerned about.  You're setting the bar for him at the level of Hall of Fame catcher based on a very small sample.  Are you going to be disappointed if he's Charles Johnson instead of Gary Carter? I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

As we all know...many players have trouble living up to an expectation (ie "a bar being set") & could very well be one of the underlying problems with the current squad. I mean, take how some of the young players were rushed in their development only to, now, face the incessant pressure (especially this season) to "win now or we'll lose #17" further pressed by a rabid media as well. I mean...it hasn't been talked about much here but if the pressure to make the playoffs has been felt by the fans (as I can attest I've experienced) isn't it likely to be many times worse for the players in that clubhouse & could be a reason why some have regressed? I know it's fun to blame Wise but could this, also, be a contributing factor? As it might explain Ohtani's pitching problems/physical ailments this season. As, maybe, he's been pushing himself even harder not just to win but, because he wants to stay an Angel?

Arte likes Nevin.  Your take is vindictive and awful.  Looking for a scape goat?   There is none.   Looking for a reason?  It's right in front of you and has been illustrated in multiple places on this forum.

While it may be true that Arte LIKES Nevin...it can be argued that he LOVED Joe. So much so that he fired Aumus and ate the 2 years he still had remaining on his contract. Also...regarding scapegoating....yes, if the Angels fall out of contention/the organization fails to resign Ohtani...Nevin will likely be the fall-guy in Arte's attempt to deflect blame/to save face. Besides...he was only given a 1-year deal for continuity/a bridge to a new owner/group so there was that too.

Angels signed RHP J.D. Hammer to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old hurler hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since he was a member of the Phillies during the 2021 season. He had been pitching for the Lake Erie Crushers in the independent Frontier League where he registered a 3.46 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 46/20 K/BB ratio over 52 innings.

  3. Very sad news indeed as I too have always enjoyed your posts Lou &, like many others, have appreciated the intelligence & knowledge you have always brought to this board. That you generously imparted among those of us who were willing to be enlightened & the humor you used to try to "reach" those who weren't as receptive. But, regardless, thank you very much Lou for your wit & wisdom & my very best to you & to your family. As, if it's true that no one is truly gone until everyone whose lives they have touched has passed...your wonderful presence will be here forever!
