  1. Not signing Beltre was the start of the Angels downfall. It lead to acquiring Wells (losing Juan Rivera and Napoli), Pujols (which gave us an awkward 4 first-basemen when combined with Kendrys , Trumbo, and CJ Cron in Milb), Hamilton, and CJ (nuff said), getting rid of Torii (who dared to challenge Albert), trading Kendrys, etc... All of this because Arte thought it was wise to make Beltre a "take it or leave it" offer, which Adrian simply used as his negotiations floor. So yeah, Adrian's numbers place him in the HOF, but he shouldn't get in due to the perpetual damage he placed upon the Halos. ZERO SUM!!!
  2. Agree on Rendon. I winced every time the ball was hit to him, his throwing motion just begs for an E5.
  3. Well, we can have him play right field on away games, and left field at home, that would minimize the distance he has to run in-between innings. I'll bet you never thought about THAT!!!
  4. They should offer the job to Rendon or Trout, as those guys usually have a lot of free time.
  5. Or, Arte will change the name back to the "California" Angels, then, to honor the renewed name, he will hire a female, black, LBGTQ activist.
  6. Agree 100%. It might be worth it if you're a legit playoff team and can get him to start some playoff games, but the Angels just never had the organizational depth for a 6-man rotation. This year, our number 6 starters had a negative WAR, so that detracted from our number 1. Also, I'm a huge Ohtani fan and wouldn't mind seeing him in the playoffs. Especially if the WBC was any indicator of what he'd do under pressure. Frankly, he deserves better than the fiasco taking place in Anaheim.
  7. We traded Dante Bichette for one subpar year from THIS GUY!
  8. Ha! I believe the newspaper headline was, "Guns in the Clubhouse!"
  9. But he IS on pace to break the club record of 47 homeruns (Troy Glaus).
  10. Agree. Read Jordan Rodrigue's coverage of the Rams, then compare to Blum's Halo coverage. I realize Jordan doesn't have a jockstrap, but if she did, Blum couldn't carry it!
  11. A friend of mine was playing Xbox with the ortho who worked on Verlander and he disagrees with your ortho.
  12. I remember a few games back when Rendon tried to fist-bump Ohtani and completely got the cold shoulder. Shohei knows!!!
  13. IMO, a non-pitching Ohtani is worth as much as Aaron Judge. Probably more with the Japanese $ he brings in. The value of having him on your pitching staff (during the regular season) is offset by the fact that you now have to include your 6th-best guy in the rotation. He only averages 5.7 innings pitched per start, and the team is minus one bullpen guy because of the extra starter. He'll get at least $40 mil per year. Probably more if he signs for less than Judge's 9 years.
  14. Agree 100%, but often it takes a clubhouse leader to remind a slacker of what you just posted.
  15. As I posted in a different thread... Curt Schilling says (in his podcast) that good teams don't wait for the manager to motivate them. The team leaders take care of that before it ever gets to the point where the Angels are now.
  16. Curt gives the current Padres as an example of a lot of talent that just can't play together and get it done. He also said that the 2004 Sox didn't gel until they got rid of Garciaparra and brought in Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz. He gave an example of one of the Red Sox hispanic stars (he wouldn't say the name) who was in the training room claiming that he couldn't play that night. Orlando Cabrera came in, looked at the lineup, said "what's up amigo?" and then said, "I'm going out to take batting practice now. When I come back in, if you're not in the lineup, we're going to fight!" The player was in the starting lineup that night.
  17. If you're not listening to the Curt Schilling Baseball Podcast, you should give it a chance. Curt says that if it's up to the manager to fix this crap, then it's a lost cause. Teams with good clubhouse leadership take care of this themselves. Multi-millionaire players are rarely motivated by the manager, but they ARE motivated by other established players. IMO, we haven't had this type of leadership since Torii Hunter. The Angels are an especially difficult group for someone to become that leader, because that would involve stepping on the toes of Trout, Rendon, and Ohtani. It's unfortunate that our 3 biggest stars just don't have the tools to command a clubhouse (Ohtani's problem is the language barrier, he certainly commanded Team Japan.)
  18. Yep, we traded him for Al Cowens, who we then traded for Jason Thompson, who we then traded for Mickey Mahler. We were the losers in all three of these trades.
  19. Ed Figueroa Lee Stanton would have made the Fregosi trade a success, even without Nolan Ryan. Jerry Remy Dan Ford
  20. and went on to have many good years after we traded him for CASH!
  21. When I was a kid, I copied Joe Morgan's stance, and had to remind the coach that, according to the Little League constitution, I was entitled to play 3 innings.
  22. Agree on both Bengie and Boone. Both were clutch. I used to always fear that Bengie would hit into a double play in a clutch situation (being as he was so slow he wouldn't even make it onto your TV screen running to first), but he kept the ball off the ground, and often just hit a rope. Boone would choke up on the bat and put the ball in play.
