BTH got a reaction from Chuck in OC Register: Angels players feel ‘really good vibes’ as spring training begins
I will say, I think it’s a different perspective for people who saw the Angels accomplish the ultimate goal than people who didn’t.
I didn’t see them win the World Series. And when I really started following the team everyday, it was after they were making the playoffs.
I am also looking forward to Wash and the new coaching staff, but the Angels I know have been ran poorly by Arte Moreno.

BTH got a reaction from Erstad Grit in OC Register: Angels owner Arte Moreno says he’s around ‘for the long term’
We’ll see what the budget is once we hit the start of the season and whether they made any more moves.
But if the payroll is anywhere near what it’s at right now, Perry deserves a ton of scrutiny for his allocation of resources.
If you have this many holes on the roster, you can’t be spending $8M on García, Cimber, Cisnero, Plesac, and Kolarek.

I hope the interview includes an update on the stadium situation.

He didn’t speak to Bollinger either, who by all accounts seems to be professional.

I could see a trade for Kim coming after Montgomery or Snell signs up.
Silseth + Moniak for Kim might be something that could work.
The 5 outfielder mix just doesn’t feel right, I think there’s a high likelihood one of em gets moved.

If they want him to be a long relief option out of the pen, they need to stretch him out.
Also, he’s a more attractive trade piece if he’s starting.

Absolutely this. This whole nonsense about "leaving it open" is how you wind up with Drury batting 4th and Rendon 5th. If you don't man that spot with a really good hitter, you're exactly right: you're giving ABs to guys that don't raise the floor of your lineup at all. Plus, there really aren't that many days off to go around. Are Trout, Rendon, and O'Hoppe sitting out once a week every week? Adell getting consistent DH at bats without having earned them? Squeezing Aaron bloody Hicks in there just because? Drury at DH, Rengifo at 2B? None of those moves do anything except get your guys rest. They definitely don't maximize the opportunity to have a guy that mashes but can't move in the field. I really hope they don't settle for using it as a rest slot. Especially because Trout is significantly worse when DH-ing and Rendon has literally 10 at bats not playing the field.

Yeah, I’m not sure the Lorenzen/Clevinger/Ryu types are much of an upgrade over what they currently have.
If you sign one of them, then Anderson or Silseth gets bumped out.
Like I’d rather see if Anderson (who you’re already paying) can be better, and give Silseth a legit opportunity.

Yeah, I don’t think they add to chances, but I think a scenario where Silseth is the #6 option helps the Angels chances overall simply by affording them depth, especially since Silseth could impact either the pen or the rotation. I don’t want them neglecting depth, counting too much on kids, and then we wind up in a position where a couple rotation injuries leads to us rushing Dana or banking on someone like Kochanowicz or Mederos to make 20 GS.
Essentially what I’m saying is that I really think if the Angels contend this year, it will be because of a combo of good depth and internal improvements, and I think both of those are helped by guys like Silseth and Bachman starting  in the rotation in the minors to begin the season, as well as guys like Joyce in AAA. I just don’t want to open the year thin, and Silseth being the #5 does that IMO. Same reason why I’m glad they’ve also bumped all the young relievers to AAA. It is only a good thing to have depth like that in April. The vets they’ve added are easily cheap enough to dump if opportunity knocks, be it Anderson, Hicks, Cisnero, Cimber. It’s important to add guys like that though in case they hit on any.

I don’t think signing a Ryu/Clev/Lorenzen type improves the contention chances that much, if at all.
I think the Angels best chance of contention involves guys like Silseth/Bachman/Daniel stepping up and exceeding expectations.
