  1. Not gonna let Check beat me at the AI game here. (Although I do wonder how he actually got it to produce a face that actually looked like Perry.) Here's what AI thinks "Arte Moreno trying to use expired coupons at Arby's" looks like:
  2. Dude, we're 1.4m over the threshold. Which means the first year 20% tax is a grand total of $280,000. I know ya'll think Arte is one of those billionaires carries around expired Arby's coupons in his wallet, but c'mon man.
  3. How is this thread 11 pages...geez... Where are the poker players in this thread? Who understand that money in the pot is already gone. And each action is a new independent decision. Perry made a huge bluffing/probing raise and got re-raised. He's correct to fold here, even for a small amount. Yes, it's embarrassing, but it's the right play to try and get under the tax level. Not for the benefit of Arte's wallet, but for the benefit of keeping your over-tax count at zero, for potential future flexibility for the franchise.
  4. Yep, talk about unlikely hero! I was at that game, still have the ticket stub in a box here somewhere. Very glad my dad didn't get out the car keys in the 7th. He let us stay. I don't think my dad ever left any sporting event early for the rest of his life after that game. Was at the game the next night also. Another 9th inning walk off HR, from Doug DeCinces. I expect Sparky Anderson broke a few things in the clubhouse that series.
  5. Ah, here comes the trade Neto, O'Hoppe, Detmers, Sandoval, Silseth, and Schanuel crowd again. So who do you think we can get for Schanuel? A compensation round pick in the 2024 draft? Or do we trade him for some player taken after the pick he went in this year's draft? Meaning, a player we just passed on to take Schanuel?
  6. I'm waiting for someone to suggest he should give up both pitching and hitting, because he might get injured. He'd be like the ugly sofa my grandmother wouldn't let anyone sit on.
  7. I'm trying to remember if it was Masahiro Tanaka? Who had either what they called "fraying" or a partial tear. I think they shut him down, did some platelet-rich plasma injections or some such thing and he avoided Tommy John. Still was on the shelf for a long time, though. So theoretically, skipping an MRI at the wrong time could land you deeper in the soup. But that's kind of irrelevant here. We don't know yet if Ohtani has a full tear or what anyway. And ordering an MRI for a finger cramp is maniacally hypochondriatic.
  8. I forget exactly how Wayne worded it in the broadcast, but he made it clear teams have no authority to force players to do it. Presumably there's some text in the CBA about this scenario that gives players the right to decline imaging.
  9. All solo homers, no doubt. Holy crap, I just looked it up...when Mike Cameron had his 4 HR game in 2002, they were all solo HRs. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA200205020.shtml
  10. Neither, it's 8/23/2124, only two more years of paying Rendon's great-grandchildren.
  11. It's Bob Uecker, obviously. He's the only one who has ever fit that bizarre title.
  12. And here I thought I was making a serious thread, not one filled with jokes...
  13. A's are worst case. No, seriously, I mean it. It would indicate that once they move to Vegas, they expect to be a big budget team and will try to move ahead of us, talent-wise. We'd be finishing last in the AL West pretty much every year.
  14. Robo strike zone ain't AI, folks. It's a bunch of entirely deterministic static code, just like a barcode scanner at the grocery store. AI strike zone would mean the machines would teach themselves what the strike zone should be. Which means it would probably end up being worse than Eric Gregg eventually.
  15. And to follow up that... I think Perry has our farm and development on the turn-around and moving in the right direction. Arte should support that however he can...
