  1. I'm "borrowing" this from another person but, Don't marry yourselves to prospects. If the right deal came along that made our team better, sure I'd be happy to listen.
  2. Some players are worth losing a 2nd rounder for and this is one of those times.
  3. So I've been following Bleacher Report for a while now and the last couple weeks or so they've had and " If I were Billy Eppler" article going with the staff of Halos hangout. Most of the ideas I past off as just silly, or meh wouldn't help the team at all. Part 6 really caught my eye as a couple of these ideas weren't half bad. I'm only posting the trade ideas but will post a link if anyone hasn't seen it and wants to check out the whole article. ROLLING IN THE DEEP: ADELL FINDS 3 WAYS TO GO CENTRAL One doesn’t approach the prospect of trading a top-five prospect lightly, so I want to have multiple alternatives at our disposal. I’d like to pitch the kid to several teams, create a little FOMO, and play offers against each other. I’m selecting three teams at crucial turning points in their competitive arcs – either because key franchise players are within two years of free agency, or because they are in a rebuilding phase, and seeking a new nucleus of talent to drive them into contention again. These three teams – the Cubs, Indians and Tigers – are all Midwestern clubs in their respective league Central Divisions, just a short flight north of Jo Adell’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Each team occupies an urban metro (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago) that is heavily or majority African-American, indicating a powerful opportunity to build a community and passionate fanbase around a rare young African-American baseball talent who has a knack for capturing the media with key moments. That’s important, because the trades I’m contemplating ask a lot of their respective fanbases, either because a beloved homegrown player is involved, or because a #1 draft pick is included in the trade. Let’s look at the three packages: Scenario 1: Trade Jo Adell (OF) and Andrew Heaney (SP) to the Detroit Tigers for Matthew Boyd (SP), Casey Mize (SP) and Joey Wentz (SP) Net cost to Angels (2020): +$1.4m Scenario 2: Trade Jo Adell (OF), Andrew Heaney (SP) and Zack Cozart (SS/3B) to the Chicago Cubs for Kris Bryant (3B), Willson Contreras (C) and Brailyn Marquez (SP) Net cost to Angels (2020): +$5.3m Scenario 3: Trade Jo Adell (OF), Andrew Heaney (SP) and Andrelton Simmons (SS) to the Cleveland Indians for Francisco Lindor (SS), Corey Kluber (SP), Aaron Civale (SP), James Karinchak (RHRP), Daniel Espino (SP) Net cost to Angels (2020): +$14.7mhttps://www.halosheaven.com/2019/11/18/20965156/if-i-were-billy-eppler-part-vi
  4. Just go back to the California Angels and be done with it. We've been in a funk since changing to the Los Angeles Angles.
  5. If that's the case then it's just a pure cop out on Epplers part. We'd only really be pushing the payroll till Cozart and Pujols contracts come off the books, so go get the arms now.
  6. As a union member for 30 years I'm all for someone getting the most of what they can, I'm all for the players getting theirs. That being said seeing Trout getting 400+ million to play baseball is a bit absurd and the idea someone soemday will crach half a billion is just crazy to think about. Which ultimately ends up on the fan when it comes to tickets and merch.
  7. Problem with extending Betts is, while he won't get a Trout type contract, it will be up there. Let's assume we get Cole signed, you'd be looking at massive long term contracts for Betts, Trout and Cole.
  8. So I almost shot water out of my nose when this one just popped up in MLB network. This is revolving around The Angels being able to resign Betts but what a risk.
  9. Trade proposal isn't awful, but if I'm taking on that kind of money it's on my terms. I'd do the deal but one of Canning or Marsh is getting pulled and I'm adding Upton. Actually now that I think about it. Both Canning and Marsh are getting pulled and I'll add Jones instead.
  10. By no means do i think this can or will happen but hell, this is what I'd like to see. Sign Cole 7/245 Sign Strasburg 5/180 Sign Maldonado 1 to 2 years at 1 to 2 mil per Trade Simmos, Canning, Marsh and another prospect to the Mets for Thor. I don't care who my 5th or 6th starters are as my rotation now revolves around Cole, Strasburg, Thor and Ohtani. Hey it can happen!
  11. Was gonna start a new thread but I guess I'll put this here. With Houston losing tonight and Cole so close but still so far from winning a championship how motivated will he be to go with a winner over top dollar? What if the Angels offer 7/250 and say the Yankees match? Think he'd go with the team with the best chance to win it all and it might not be us for a year or 2.
  12. Still think he'll get anywhere from 35 to 37 mil a year. He'll be the highest paid pitcher in the majors.
  13. We're gonna have to overpay for Cole. The Yankees all but flat out said they're perusing Cole. The price just went up and my initial thought that it'd take 7 and 245 probably isn't enough now. It all comes down to Arte and what he's comfortable with not Eppler. It might be tight this year spending 35 + mil a year for Cole and whatever else it takes for, say, Wheeler and Grandal, but Cozart comes off the books next year and Pujols 2021.
  14. Grienke hasn't impressed me but Astros bullpen is better. Still, I went with Nats in 6. Overall better starting pitching and I think both offenses match up.
  15. I'm going with January. Figure Cole will take some time with family and enjoy the holidays.
  16. Kay will say and do anything to get a lighter sentence.
  17. 7/245 with a full no trade/no opt out. Pulled this little snippet from the usa today ad because it blew my mind. In his last 24 starts, Cole is 18-0 with a 1.66 ERA and 251 strikeouts in 162⅓ innings.
  18. I posted this in another thread about hoping Cole choked game 5 and of course he didn't but an MLB annalist thinks Cole could be the first 40 mil a year pitcher and with Boras as his agent he could very well get it.
  19. Here's what scares me, watching MLB network after the game one of the annalists think he'll be the first 40 million dollar a year pitcher. At that point I think I'd be out on signing him. If we have roughly 50 to 70 mil to spend that's a massive chunk gone.
  20. Bleacher report is saying the meeting happened yesterday, which we all knew, but states 3 other candidates will have interviews and a decision will be made maybe by the end of the week? Who the hell are the other " candidates" and why drag this along? Maybe San Diego swoops in and offers him a massive contract that Maddon can't pass up? Just get it done already.
